Thanks. I really do enjoy that sort of thing. When I'm working with something mechanical or electrical I'm almost always happy. That's why I can actually enjoy my job. And when I park a bus in the "good lanes" after fixing it, It's an accomplishment that I can point to and think "I did something useful". The 2 buses I fixed last night are busy taking people to work or on errands even as I type this. I'm finally useful for something. I felt so useless in the army, but not now.
I listed the parts in the sidebar of the video. I used my electric chainsaw a lot on this system then we ran an electric cooler all night before it needed a recharge. It worked great.
thank you vention. i like the way you explain the things. you know a lot and you are not arrogant. thats good in survival...what about solar energy? do you know you can recharge a battery with solar enegy? now you can by flashs etc recharged by solar.
Yes, I have 2 solar panels and a charge controller, so I can charge the batteries without overcharging them. I also have a small 1500 watt generator. I can pull gas out of my car to run it if necessary. If I run the batteries down in an emergency I can run the generator instead and I can use it to charge my batteries while I'm at it. I'm limited in a lot of things because I own a condo rather than a house but I get by ok.
thanks. how long your generator can stay on? do you use fuel? what can you use?fridge etc? your videos are very interesting, why dont you do a video explaning about food storage(kind and quantity to stock)?
Wow that's a really cool setup I have watched the vid like 4 times I'm only 13 and learning all I can about batteries chargers solar regulaters and panels amps watts all that
Thanks. I'm not good at following the news or sorting what stories are interesting & important but basic practical preparation for hard times is something that I know a thing or two about. I'm not comfortable making a video unless I know what I'm talking about & I'm confident that others will find it useful. That's why I don't post regularly.
Same DeWalt saw as we have on the fire truck Vention. We are yet to use them in anger, but they are new and some people swear by them. so will see how they hold up.
Yes I saw that sawsall on your fire truck video. I think I might have the next size down from yours. Mine takes the 18 volt power packs while I think I noticed that you'rs is a 36 volt (the kind with the flat, slide in battery). That 36 volt job would probably put my little saw to shame.
We really do go for over engineered overpowered stuff, the guys have to trust it, it HAS to work. anything below average won't be touched. Every bit of kit we have is tested weekly, and kept in top shape ready to go. BTW the chainsaw bit was so funny I nearly swallowed my own tongue!
Thanks! I do enjoy a little humor from time to time. When I'm under stress I develop a really wild humor that can set a whole room laughing. That was especially true during my army years. These days I'm so happy (yes even now in this economy, I'm happy) that I'm not as funny. I have my moments though.
I agree, the fire fighters need good tools to work with. If I'm stuck in a wrecked car I'd rather you had the best possible tools available to cut me out of there.
Ha, My neighbors really do love me. They get garden produce in summer, free help with their cars and I share my cable internet with the cash challenged retired lady next door. Generally anyone close enough to be bothered by the occasional bit of noise, likes me too much to complain.
Oh and I make sure that any noise happens in the day while all of my close neighbors are at work or gone.
This condo complex is like working class city. During the day, the place is nearly deserted.
That is a handy dandy invention you have there. You should go into production for all the people (like me ) that doesnt know ANYTHING about electricity or the mechanics of putting it all together.....thanks for the video.
A couple of questions. What is the box on bottom is that a custom thing too or is the power supply and everything in that box a packaged item that you can buy some where?
And are the batteries on the top the only batteries in the setup or is there some in the box on bottom?
The OSHA approved MSDS sheet for a Kirby vacume cleaner, requires that you wear steel toed safety boots, while operating the device. Doing so in your bare feet will void the UL warranty listing!
Hey vention I'm thinking about doing a power drill on video this week probably starting tomorrow if you want to check it out something similar to the way you did.
I'll be watching. Thanks for the heads up. When I did my power outage simulation it showed me how unready I was. I assembled a good sized list of things I wanted for a real power outage and have since picked them up. Now I'll be a lot more comfortable during the next power outage (or if TSHTF).
Ya, peg board is cool stuff, and it's cheap too. I have my cable modem, wireless router and all their power supplies attached to a small peg board that I have fastened to the wall behind my couch. It keeps all the wire and devices up off the floor so they don't get dusty and they don't get in the way when I vacuum. I always like to have a sheet of peg board around for things like that.
How about approximate cost and a little more how-to? It would be great to power a stove burner. I got a large propane tank and a small grill that can come inside, but this would be more convenient. Thanks!
Stoves burners eat power like crazy, same with resistance coils for heaters. You'd have to look at how many watts the burner draws & compare it to the total amp hours of your batteries. For cooking I plan to use my propane stove (or gasoline stove if I use it outside).
The main reason I bought the power cart was so that I wouldn't have to crank my wheat grinder by hand. I can crank the hand grinder for an hour or grind the same amount in a few minutes with the electric grinder.
There's a lot you can do with flour besides bread. First off I like to make my own whole wheat pancake mix, using powdered eggs, powdered milk, baking powder, salt, and flour. Then all I have to do is pour a bit into a bowl, add a little veg oil and before the pan is even hot I'm ready to pour the first pancake.
There are other uses as well, Pan bread is one idea. I have recipes but I've never tried them.
I have propane and gasoline stoves as well as the ability to cook over a fire.
Good idea. I do have a couple solar panels that I can use. If there's no sun I can pull my little motor scooter around to my deck and run it to charge the battery pack. I'll need to rig a fast idle solenoid if I use it for that reason more often. I even have a remote control to start the scooter and stop it.
My truck has a good alternator, capable of charging trailer batteries so it can certainly charge the battery pack. I'll bring it camping with me next week.
LOL, this is a farm, and of course I can cook. I just don't like to cook all the time... There is a nice big shop for you to work your Wizard magic in...
