they use a tranny built for a lawntractor. BOTH gtrs near here have blown their trannies, and one of them caught fire and burned 3 months ago. like most jappo cars, they are like disposable flashlights from a dollar store.
everyone always brings up i rather a supra, evo or sti that can shit ova a certain car, ever thought of maybe that person likes to have a quick STOCK car with the modern interior? you'll get to a point when/if you do have a high power street car and cops keeps on pulling you over and picks on the little things of your car and get fines for no reasons at all, you'll fkn get over it.
GTR transmissions are matched to the engine precisely. So you're gonna have to get a new transmission box matched to your engine somehow. How are you going to do that and how much will that end up costing you ahhahaaa
your opinion is shit. They blew it cuz they voided the warranty but adding so many things and removing the cats, etc. Each trans. is matched to the engine precisely, one GTR engine and only one trans. Of course you're going to break stock parts but improperly launching it/driving it.
Im not a huge fan of imports anyway but still - I´d rather see an built supra in my garage (for example) than a Nissan GTR also known as Playstation on wheels
and as much as I know there are many 800+ rwhp supras out there with the stock tranny
in this case Im not quite sure what you are talking about
but those supras dont have to deal with the stress of a modded GTR. The GTR is awd and launches at high rpm, which puts tremendous stress on the tranny, whereas the 800rwhp supras spin their tires all day, easing on the tranny.....but you'd REALLY want to have a built supra over a GTR as your car? That's saying a lot, the supra is still a 20 year old 30K new vehicle.
fair enough, i understand where you're coming from...i'm 21 and i can't imagine having an automatic let alone an automated manual for 20 years at least....it's just too fun controlling the clutch and shifter by yourself. I have a mustang gt and an old honda accord, both with 5 speeds, and its such a riot controlling them both manually. Then again when i'm 50, i'll probably change over to auto manual.....but maybe not.
@dhillskier I said everyone could accelerate perfectly in a GTR since it´s a computer on wheels
launch control for a perfect launch
all wheel drive for a perfect acceleration
automatic double clutch transmission for perfect and unbeatable fast shifts
so even a new born human being could accelerate perfectly in a GTR. the only thing you have to do is pressing the gas pedal. so as I said - I think it becomes boring to drive the GTR after a month since the car is the racer - not the driver
@HEMIH3AD so hitting apexes, shift points, proper lines and knowing how to enter and exit corners have nothing to do with driver ability? GTR makes it come down to driver ability since the mechanical ability is so consistent and predictable.
Remember these guys are testing the limits of the Nissan GTR. This way they can see what this car can take and make builds and see how far you can push the car.
its not under-engineered. this transmission handled over 100+launches on a prepped track with over 150hp extra being ran thru it. nissan doesn't want this car to be a tuner, that's why the encrypted their ecu. it's easier for a rwd tranny to handle power than an awd one.
@dhillskier75 haah wha ta joke you advertise 3.5 secs u hype the shit out saying u beat Porsche and ur asked not to use the same feature ur paying for ?
@kallikusta nissan has shown you can hit 3.5 secs to 60 by using a brake torque launch, not by using a program designed to get out of mud and snow. using it doesn't void your warranty, just under the wrong conditions. so it's not complete b.s., but then again it isn't very legit either.
@kallikusta i'm bullshitting you with documented proof? if you use vdc in appropriate conditions, you don't void your warranty, simple as that. nissan designed the car to be used all year in a lot of different conditions, that's what vdc is for, it's on every other 4wd nissan for the purpose of getting out of stuck conditions. and btw, you turn vdc off, not on.
@holymolydonutshop123 ok, sorry, a tranny with an awd system behind it is under a lot more stress than a tranny with a simple rwd behind. if you want to go through the trouble and replace shafts with appropriate substitutes then go for it, but it's pointless. btw, this tranny is designed to be delivering power to two different spots, the front and back. it gets power from the engine, through the torque tube, then sends it back front if needed, it has an extra output shaft for that reason
@dhillskier75 send power to the back if needed??? it has a constant awd system like the r34, r33, and r32 HICAS system, dude you dont know anything about cars
@holymolydonutshop123 under normal driving conditions, its 98% back, 2% front, if you want to claim that 9bhp to the front wheels is considered full time awd then go ahead
well, they could have simply used stronger metal. But there are budgets and what not, which of course you didn't think of, you just say things without thinking.
Well, that is exactly my point. Nissan needed to produce a cheap car and to accomplish that they need to use cheap materials and cut corners somewhere. You are just telling me what I already know...you get what you pay for and this car is cheap!
you dumb ass 100+ hp over stock thats more than your car puts out just over stock form launches with launch control they posted in the detials that they were trying to break the transmission the STOCK transmission which is the same conclusion Mine's came to at a 600hp limit.

Wonder why my other comments are not on here talking about them?
i really dont care for the GTR, but i have to admit these guys have put in alot of time, money, and work into getting this car to hold up with all the upgrades, so i am impressed, but i still love the ZR-1
It is a sin, it is unconstitutional, it is blasphemy, it is illegal to say anything negative about a Japanese car. And anyone who does be an anathema.
This car has broken how many times on the track? So much for Japanese reliability. ZR1 burns this car in stock form, and slaps it around on the track. Two American cars topping the 'ring times, read em' and weep import fanbitches.
The ZR1 isnt stock its supercharged. Get a Chevy American car that is a Z06 that stock. If thats the case how bought they get a stock GTR and put a bigger turbo on it and call it stock. LOL then it would kill the ZR1 plus its funny they fix the tranny and a the ZR1 couldnt even catch this thing.
I normally don't respond to people with an IQ representative of a celery stock, but I'll make an exception since this is interesting.
The ZR1 is STOCK supercharged, you imbecile. As in, not even the same N/A LS7 block as the Z06. The same way that a GT-R comes stock with turbo's. The supercharger on the Corvette isn't even an efficient unit, so acting like a bigger turbo is even a comparison just further proves that you should not be speaking on the subject. ZR1 > GT-R, even on the track. Sad.
ZR1 is rigged with a TVS supercharger from the factory, aaron3378.
As far as the ZR1 not catching the GT-R, it's just not a well thought out comment. The ZR1 clocks over 11MPH quicker than a GT-R will in the 1/4 mile. That's walking away from the GT-R my friend.
I don't understand why people keep calling it a junkbox...
The GTR on the right seemed to of use the "launch control"
Which in fact, is not advertised to be used that way. It's purpose is to launch the car if it gets stuck in mud or snow. Thus assuming that you don't repeatedly get stuck in those situations, the transmission should be able to hold. But it's not to be used as a full feature of the car. 2010 GTR will have the launch lowered to 3000rpm in stead of 4000rpm. That should help.
Well the cause it's that the transmission holds the torque but the necesari. If you abuse it like everything, it would break. It's made for not everyday use. Reducing the RPMs means that the torque that transmission would support is less cause the turbo on that RPMs is not that powerful.
OMG dang i wish NISSAN could of reenforced that tranni to perfection cause damn that must be one hell of a transmision to launch that car like a Rocket.
wow thats amazing!! if it was 2 wheel drive it would have been ok. the only other thing i can compair it with is an lp640 but even that has somthing like 70% going to the back wheels.
i think on launch this does up to 50% to the front. so very little power is lost to wheel spin. all of it is used to push the car.
PPG make a replacement gear set for the 1st gear which is having all the issues - They will make a replacement gear set up to 4th very soon - This will allow the GTR to be launched repeatedly with this much power (700+ps) no problem (so the guys from PPG tell me)
Hennessey ZR755 Supercharger Pulley (increases boost from 11 to 15 psi) Blower Gasket K&N Air Filter Re-program Engine Management Computer 6600 rpm Rev Limiter (200 rpm over stock) Stainless Steel Headers High Flow Catalytic Converters with Mid Pipes High Flow Cylinder Heads Camshaft Upgrade Intercooler System Upgrade dat enuf mods 4 u? runs 10.6 and 0-60 2.9 & its still slower than this much cheaper GTR!!! even John Hennessey says the GTR munches the vette@ strip & track!
this goes to show the fucktards who dont know shit about the gtr that the transmission is pretty tough. this 3800 lbs DC AWD car survived 100+ launches with a +159hp and +316 in torque on the STOCK tranny and clutch. thats pretty fucking tough if you ask me
True BUT this is what CAUSES the damage because first gear dies slowly and eventually causes the whole transmission to shit.
Think of it like this in a standard automatic transmission, sometimes it goes out because the fluid gets hot. But wait its the WHOLE transmission that goes out. The cause is not having a tranny cooler to keep the tranny fluid cool.
So its just not the tranny that is shit it is FIRST GEAR!
Cost of New transmission is 20k from BorgWarner but you dont need to replace the entire unit only the gearsets that have broken (only 1st gear seems to have an issue when using Launch control)
you dont have a clue what your talking about, im a master certified tech on imports and the actual housing snaps in half exposing the internals, seen it myself at gwinnett place nissan and took a picture of it. completely out of warranty, yes and it is 22k for the part
thats even worse that means it has multiple weak areas, not only one, why dont you guys admit it a junkbox, and that they need to target the tranny with the next production or completely redesign it, b/c that will be its reputation for a minute
i hear that alot of these skyline guys are tearing their trannies up. i heard from somewhere that the tranny in these are the same as in the maxima. anyone hear the same?
prime example of why the c6 z06 > the GTR also BONE STOCK c6 z06 with slicks= 10.8...still with a bomb ass warranty also u CAN and there IS c6 z06's that are built for Grip
haha sure the c6 is better if all you do is take it to the track everyday, or drive in a straight line, there are so many more aspects to a car besides a 1/4 mile,
stock Acceleration: C6 > GTR
Interior: GTR > C6
Handling: GTR > C6
Exterior: GTR > C6
Ease of Upgrade: GTR > C6
Technology + Options: GTR > C6
Ability to hold Value: GTR > C6
If I am going to spend that much for a car, i want more than just speed 0-60, i want the full package, hah ill take a Nissan over a Chevy anyday of ma life
I love how people are dragging this car when it was clearly meant to handle like a beast around a track. Maybe if Nissan makes a GT-R with no steering wheel... then you dull straight line guys can be happy.
well supra's just went 7.91@ 189 with a 6 speed And vipers went 7.98@185 with a 6 speed. So ya I think the world expects a better engineered car for the money. Zo6's that GTR lovers , love to hate on have made it into the 9's with the factory trannsmission.
Well one thing is for sure, a new transmission is arond 20k installed from Nissan, if that is your idea of cheaper, have at big bucks. I don't know of anyone who drops 75k on a car and is happy about dropping another 20k on it
uhhh its called modding! You drop 75k for the performance that is good for low 11s... and you do NOT need to change the transmission to upgrade first gear... so its not 20k....
That's for an entire tranny replacement. Within 90 days there will be multiple tranny upgrades and options for the aftermarket community - we're actually working on some parts as well. They won't cost anywhere near $20K.
Uh... not sure if everyone knows since everyone keeps saying it broke under stock conditions, but isn't this the same SamuraiSpeed GTR that dynos 633hp and 746tq? That's hardly stock. I'd expect that tranny to break easily with that much power behind it on a hard launch with sticky tires and being AWD and weighing quite a bit.
NO awd vehicle can hold up to repeated launching abuse. Other vehicles have been able to hold up better "before" instock trim becuase they werent making 430 whp from the factory with stick tires and LSDs making sure all the abuse goes RIGHT into the transmission, and instead is able to freely spin the tire(s).
Nope, but now that I think about it, Dodge had some pretty shitty trans. problems.. But also, this is a "high performance car." Not a Neon or Taurus. That's like taking a drag car and making the roll bar out of card board.
That's what you get for installing a faking automatic transmission in a performance car. I don't get it :baffled:. Look at Supras or skylines, their 6 speeds handle 500whp no problem. Also STi 6 speeds are bulletproof too. Anyway, why not put a 6 speed manual is the question.
and if anyone says because the automatic can acheive better times, that's just bs. I'd rather have a stronger transmission, than be faster by 0.3 0-60..
Hahahahahahaha fucking ignorance. Its not an "autoamtic" trans. Sti trans is bulletproof? You dont go around nasioc much. You think the earlier skylines transmissions hold up when theyre overly modified and launched? Not a snowballs chance. Supras? 2wd, totaly different ball game. This car isnt designed for 0-60. The fast theyre after is much different.
The car holds its 430 whp just fine, it cant however deal with sudden shocks. No street driven transmission can.
Actually numerous GTRs have failed stock. Plenty of street driven transmissions CAN take the shock of their stock motors, and they should, and you definitely shouldn't void the warranty if a feature that's part of the car's natural design and operation causes it to fail (launch control) only if the failure can be linked to modification beyond stock limits.
Ignorance is right. There are plenty that can and have held much more power and hold up to hard launching. My T56 holds up to 600hp at the strip just fine and will pull the wheels. The 4L80 I had before held up fine also. The tranny in my Sky Redline is used in 800hp TT LS7 swaps and it holds up fine aswell. I've seen stock supra 6speeds pull the tires at the strip and hold up also. Thats just a few examples. I love nissan cars, but they skimped on this tranny and it bit them in the ass.
True, but it doesn't change the fact that the tranny should be able to handle the car. I (and I'm sure numerous others) would never buy a performance car that cant handle a little abuse, especially for 70 grand. Hell, I've seen mitsubishi AWD trannies hold up to just as much if not more abuse, and thats just sad lol. Hopefully Nissan will force borg warner to beef it up for the next production run. Maybe they already have.
Can you point me towards 400+ whp evos with stock tranys doing repeated hard launches? Ive only seen a few with drag racing in mind- but all of them that i can think of had built up the trans.
Retail on a GTR is what $79k? transmission repiar $28k. hah 35% of the cars value.
Those transmissions are made so weak. Nissan i guess wont' make the transmissions stronger in the newer models instead they will take away launch mode. lol
Imagine buying a mustang cobra supercharged. Then ford having issues with motors breaking. So what Ford does is say fine we'll just take the super charger off instead of building the motor stronger.
Nissan is rebuilding the GT-R tranny right now for the 2011 GT-R the 2010 GT-R's are mosty likley not gonna have LC and still have the same tranny as the 09 but in 2011 the tranny will be completly updated and will hopley have LC
WEll if first gear breaks i guessthis $1500 part plus a transmission builder fee of $600 won't be too bad. Dont' let nissan hear you modified the transmission. Once again there goes your warranty. Damn nissans.
Lol that sucks considering nissan will void the warranty over this and its a $22,000 fix haha

it´s a 90.000€ car and its quality is not even better than a fucking fiat punto lol
tranny breaks after 1000 miles
engine blows up after 2000 miles
and after 3000 miles the driver explodes
90k is a lot of money - dont waste it for such a fucking heavy import
buy a R34, supra, evo or something like that for half the price and build it
it would be cheaper and it´s got more style to drive a built Skyline R34, supra etc than a heavy GTR TT aka Playstation on wheels
(in my opinion)

and what does the driver need to do ?
actually ... nothing.
to drive a supra perfectly you need skills due to the RWD and the manual gear box and I think it´s way more fun to drive a car instead of a computer

That's walking away from the GT-R my friend.

a stock transmission that hold up 630hp and breaks after multiple launches is a junkbox? people on here are straight retarded
lets see your car make 630hp and do muliple drag passes with no clutch upgrade or nothing...just bone stock transmission
GranDoriftoOoOo 2 years ago 2
its not 630hp champ thats wheel horsepower
Its more like 700hp
And people keep calling it crap??
Hennessey and Switzer both have 800hp R35 GTR's and you know what they did to mod the transmission :absolutely nothing!!
dangreenwood123 2 years ago
I don't understand why people keep calling it a junkbox...
The GTR on the right seemed to of use the "launch control"
Which in fact, is not advertised to be used that way. It's purpose is to launch the car if it gets stuck in mud or snow. Thus assuming that you don't repeatedly get stuck in those situations, the transmission should be able to hold. But it's not to be used as a full feature of the car. 2010 GTR will have the launch lowered to 3000rpm in stead of 4000rpm. That should help.
gextreme8 2 years ago
Well the cause it's that the transmission holds the torque but the necesari. If you abuse it like everything, it would break. It's made for not everyday use. Reducing the RPMs means that the torque that transmission would support is less cause the turbo on that RPMs is not that powerful.
DeScRuN 2 years ago
OMG dang i wish NISSAN could of reenforced that tranni to perfection cause damn that must be one hell of a transmision to launch that car like a Rocket.
cvp350gt 2 years ago
After a set number of launches the car simply decides that it is time for a new transmission, to the tune of $22,415.38 (plus $1,380.00 for labor).

wow thats amazing!! if it was 2 wheel drive it would have been ok. the only other thing i can compair it with is an lp640 but even that has somthing like 70% going to the back wheels.
i think on launch this does up to 50% to the front. so very little power is lost to wheel spin. all of it is used to push the car.
just amazing!!!

LOLl to fix that trasmission i could buy a new car...im hearing people are having problems with stripped gears when they arent even beating on it

PPG make a replacement gear set for the 1st gear which is having all the issues - They will make a replacement gear set up to 4th very soon - This will allow the GTR to be launched repeatedly with this much power (700+ps) no problem (so the guys from PPG tell me)

fayo16 3 years ago
One guy is saying its not 1st gear that goes.
Hope you understood...
Streetracer96gtr 3 years ago
It IS just the 1st gear that is breaking. The teeth are snapping off the gear. Nothing else gets damaged.
SamuraiSpeed 3 years ago
Is that how it breaks on all the tranny's? Do you know about how much it costs to fix this?
joep514 2 years ago
Cost to fix the GTR tranny is 20k. aint cheap
MauField 2 years ago
Cost of New transmission is 20k from BorgWarner but you dont need to replace the entire unit only the gearsets that have broken (only 1st gear seems to have an issue when using Launch control)
dangreenwood123 2 years ago
yea but they dont do that. its too complicated. The transmission has alot of computer parts and stuff. U needa replace the whole transmission

you dont have a clue what your talking about, im a master certified tech on imports and the actual housing snaps in half exposing the internals, seen it myself at gwinnett place nissan and took a picture of it. completely out of warranty, yes and it is 22k for the part
isiahlilman 2 years ago
Funny. I am looking at pictures of a dead transaxle right now.
Is it snapped in half, no.
Does it look just like the new one, yes.
Maybe it that 1 case, it split. That isn't the case for every transaxle failure.
frankpaws 2 years ago
thats even worse that means it has multiple weak areas, not only one, why dont you guys admit it a junkbox, and that they need to target the tranny with the next production or completely redesign it, b/c that will be its reputation for a minute

And I am the Chief Engineer of ALL imports.

haha sure the c6 is better if all you do is take it to the track everyday, or drive in a straight line, there are so many more aspects to a car besides a 1/4 mile,
stock Acceleration: C6 > GTR
Interior: GTR > C6
Handling: GTR > C6
Exterior: GTR > C6
Ease of Upgrade: GTR > C6
Technology + Options: GTR > C6
Ability to hold Value: GTR > C6

People do not understand that this is NOT a drag car, if you want to get it faster UPGRADE FIRST GEAR.
It weighs nearly 4 thousand pounds...is all wheel drive with 600hp to the wheels. What do you expect?
Streetracer96gtr 3 years ago 2
well supra's just went 7.91@ 189 with a 6 speed And vipers went 7.98@185 with a 6 speed. So ya I think the world expects a better engineered car for the money. Zo6's that GTR lovers , love to hate on have made it into the 9's with the factory trannsmission.
redhot916spd 3 years ago
I am pretty sure upgrading an R35's gears and boosting it more will make it into the 9's cheaper then any Zo6 or zr1.
Streetracer96gtr 3 years ago
Well one thing is for sure, a new transmission is arond 20k installed from Nissan, if that is your idea of cheaper, have at big bucks. I don't know of anyone who drops 75k on a car and is happy about dropping another 20k on it
redhot916spd 3 years ago
uhhh its called modding! You drop 75k for the performance that is good for low 11s... and you do NOT need to change the transmission to upgrade first gear... so its not 20k....
Streetracer96gtr 3 years ago
its not just the first gear that goes on them..... its the damn transmission

Well, if you have the money to replace the transmission as frequently as the motor oil, there's no better car to tune...
N2OHZOH6 3 years ago
That's for an entire tranny replacement. Within 90 days there will be multiple tranny upgrades and options for the aftermarket community - we're actually working on some parts as well. They won't cost anywhere near $20K.

Uh... not sure if everyone knows since everyone keeps saying it broke under stock conditions, but isn't this the same SamuraiSpeed GTR that dynos 633hp and 746tq? That's hardly stock. I'd expect that tranny to break easily with that much power behind it on a hard launch with sticky tires and being AWD and weighing quite a bit.
TrueStreets 3 years ago
WTF are you smoking? ALL transmission should and can hold up to stock power levels!!!
RetrdedP3nguin 3 years ago
NO awd vehicle can hold up to repeated launching abuse. Other vehicles have been able to hold up better "before" instock trim becuase they werent making 430 whp from the factory with stick tires and LSDs making sure all the abuse goes RIGHT into the transmission, and instead is able to freely spin the tire(s).
SidewaysGts 3 years ago
You must have never owned a Ford Taurus.
xX12amanXx 3 years ago
Nope, but now that I think about it, Dodge had some pretty shitty trans. problems.. But also, this is a "high performance car." Not a Neon or Taurus. That's like taking a drag car and making the roll bar out of card board.
RetrdedP3nguin 3 years ago
Haaahaahahhahahah fucking fail!!!
I'd rather have a stronger transmission, than be faster by 0.3 0-60..
polrex02 3 years ago
Hahahahahahaha fucking ignorance. Its not an "autoamtic" trans. Sti trans is bulletproof? You dont go around nasioc much. You think the earlier skylines transmissions hold up when theyre overly modified and launched? Not a snowballs chance. Supras? 2wd, totaly different ball game. This car isnt designed for 0-60. The fast theyre after is much different.
The car holds its 430 whp just fine, it cant however deal with sudden shocks. No street driven transmission can.
SidewaysGts 3 years ago
Actually numerous GTRs have failed stock. Plenty of street driven transmissions CAN take the shock of their stock motors, and they should, and you definitely shouldn't void the warranty if a feature that's part of the car's natural design and operation causes it to fail (launch control) only if the failure can be linked to modification beyond stock limits.
Spargo 3 years ago
Can you find any reports of someones Gtr transmission that broke from pure regular driving? If so please send the link this way.
Factory warranties should only cover factory defects, at least in my eyes. Someone racing their car and breaking things is not a factory warranty.
SidewaysGts 3 years ago
Ignorance is right. There are plenty that can and have held much more power and hold up to hard launching. My T56 holds up to 600hp at the strip just fine and will pull the wheels. The 4L80 I had before held up fine also. The tranny in my Sky Redline is used in 800hp TT LS7 swaps and it holds up fine aswell. I've seen stock supra 6speeds pull the tires at the strip and hold up also. Thats just a few examples. I love nissan cars, but they skimped on this tranny and it bit them in the ass.
stupidbikerboy 3 years ago
All awesome examples of two wheel driven vehicles.
SidewaysGts 3 years ago
True, but it doesn't change the fact that the tranny should be able to handle the car. I (and I'm sure numerous others) would never buy a performance car that cant handle a little abuse, especially for 70 grand. Hell, I've seen mitsubishi AWD trannies hold up to just as much if not more abuse, and thats just sad lol. Hopefully Nissan will force borg warner to beef it up for the next production run. Maybe they already have.
stupidbikerboy 3 years ago
