@clintonearlwalker this grouper is a goliath grouper and at the time we caught it, the law didn't allow keeping them, now there is a law against bringing them into the boat. other types of grouper can be harvested, I have never caught any keepers but what I have eaten have been really good, espeically at The Wreck in Marathon. Wish I was there now!

My neighbor caught a stingray about 3 years ago, he wasn't allowed to bring it in the boat, he keeps saying he has a pic of it, I haven't seen it yet. My other neighbor got nailed by a stingray about 30 years ago, he thought it was dead and tried to kick it back in, got him in the Achilles near his heel, he still has a nasty scar. I mostly fish for trout, meal worms and spinners.

It seems a bit ridiculous because its not going to harm the fish to bring him in the door to get the hook out of its mouth if you aren't able to turn it out. Seems like a better alternative to me than cutting the leader and leaving the hook in.

@clintonearlwalker lol i was fleshing my grandmas pond for bass and bluegill and a little bad took my hook the i saw a big fish bump him i thought he just wanted to take the bait from the little fish so i was willing to trade nope the bass just engulfed the other one and i yelled to my dad to look he didn't believe it till he came down to the dock and saw i wasn't lying AT ALL but unfortunately as fishing stories go he spit the little one about 4 inches from the top of the water

@cajoca8 That's basically the same thing that happened to me. I had a tiny hook on, I wasn't catching anything so I thought I'd try to catch a sunny or bluegill. I hooked a sunny about 10 feet out, when I got him in about 4 feet out a big bass came out of no where and grabbed him. I had both the bass and sunny on for a few seconds but I knew I couldn't catch the bass, when I pulled on it a little the sunny came out of the basses mouth and he swam away :(
