• hahahaha omg i expected this to be like a masterpiece theater costume drama (not that i have anything against those) and then this really intense music started

  • this movie is ok. Personally I wish they had made it much much longer, as the book, and the 1980s film series, are outstanding.

What you have here it half the tale without the depth and context (and therefore impact) of the book/1980s effort.

  • DUMBLEDORE!

  • This looks absolutely awful.

  • UGHH! I hate this movie so much. The only reason I watched it was for Hayley Atwell in which she was the only good thing about this movie. Honestly she is more beautiful here than in Captain America, but barely because she is a goddess in Captain. Her haircut in BH rivals Cate Blanchett's in Indiana Jones 4, shoot Hayley should've been Irina Spalko in Indy 4!!

  • @Hyman74Roth well if you were only watching it for a perv, then I'm hardly surprised you were dissapointed! I don't think Waugh had it in mind to make Brideshead an erotic novel.

  • @stashcode NO! No, no, she is beautiful yes, but I like her acting, that was the other reason I watched this. Didn't cross my mind once that she was going to get naked. No I hate this movie for different reasons, I didn't like Charles (he makes Bill the Butcher is honorable than this guy), Sebastian was an unsympathetic wimp ( I wanted to smack him), and Lady Marchmain was a cartoon character that I kept laughing at because her dialogue was just so unbelievable. I had not read the book either.

  • @Hyman74Roth ahh - I apologise! Yes, she is a great actress. Interesting comments on the other characters. You'd love the book - give it a shot if you get the time.

  • @stashcode And the thing I eat up period films, I LOVE the Age of Innocence and I really dug Godsford Park it was just with this one I felt like the director did all the things that you are not suppose to do in a period movie and just like Chicken Little I almost lost faith in the genre after watching this...untill I saw the 2011 version of Jane Eyre, renewed my faith entirely:)

  • Awesome movie.

  • What the fuck is this?

I'm sorry, did I miss something? Did I fucking search for "Sensational heterosexual glamourous intrigue" by accident? What the flying fuck is this movie and why is it permitted to name itself after a perfectly lovely book?

  • The music didn't really fit... They should have used the Sebastian music pice!! :)

  • I spy Dumbledore...

  • Pure cheese... and we're not talking pont l'eveque here. More like the stuff that comes out of a spray can.

  • This movie is really good if you just stop comparing it to the book and the series all the time. The soundtrack is brilliant, the acting great and the visuality is just gorgeous. Just try to enjoy that and you'll see its actually a fantastic movie.

  • @ladyYeniel - Ok, so again - why did they name it after the book? Why use the names of Waugh's characters? Hmm?

  • i love this more than the series, more than the book...but i watched this first....

  • I want to buy and subsequently burn every copy of this film. Anyone want to chip in?

  • What´s the name of the song which starts at 0:42? Please

  • @roxanabrau

    Spawn - Brand X Music

  • Venice?! :D

  • I wasn't aware that the point of a film is to exactly imitate a book....

  • @kindrickm - No, but if one is going to depart so completely from the plot and above all from the spirit of the book, why name the movie after it? Why not just give the characters and the film their own names? They are merely capitalizing on the fame of Waugh's novel without being faithful to his work or his intent.

  • @llamala2010 - Simple; it would be plagiarism not to give Waugh credit. As an artist myself, I think it's safe to say that the people who took the tremendous amount of time and effort to create this film probably did not dedicate so many hours to "capitalize". (Particularly considering this was absolutely not a big box office money maker.) You don't have to act like a snob just to seem intelligent, you know. Sometimes people just like to watch a fucking movie.

  • Dumbledore!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Does someone know what the names of these songs are?! i NEED to know O_O

  • @MissCandy2 It's one song, Spawn by Brand X.

  • @xxrubes12xx oh, thanks!

  • I know that the movie is slightly different from the book , but I like the movie better !

The book is terribly boring where certain things are being implied only. The writer does not want to explain certain things directly which makes it an incomplete novel. The movie seems to be direct !

So I choose the movie over the television series and also the book !

  • Spawn ! O.o

  • this monstrosity is an abomination- Evelyn Waugh would turn in his grave !

  • fuck that whole plot...everyone against the one good guy. UGH. makes me so mad. its a very good movie just heartbreaking

  • @hacsince91

Well, Charles Ryder is at fault for falling into temptation. And although he plays the victim, he did choose Julia mainly for the mansion. It is idealistic to think he wanted to be with her because he loved her. (Although I myself like to believe he truly loved her and Sebastian.)

  • @KameraBoy09 good lord i don't even remember making that comment before....i was so vulgar and harsh ahah im sorry i mustve been in a crazy hormonal-girl-mood-swing at the time. And you know when I watched this when it first came out...well I only watched it once, and didn't even really think of him loving her mostly for the mansion. but now that youve mentioned it, i definitely think youre right. :)

  • This music..ugh. Gah. Totally missing the point?

  • What the hell IS this? I must be in the wrong trailer.

  • one of the BEST MOVIES!!

  • I just finished reading the book and this trailer is just so rediculous...not what I imagined AT ALL

  • This is not what the book is about. This is not Brideshead Revisited.

  • My feelings are between Sebastian & Charles ..

  • I am not bashing anyone's beliefs but i am just saying that even in the trailer, it says BASED on the novel. The definition of based is a starting point or point of departure. The movie version is based on the novel but doesnt necessarily have to be exact.

If you view it with a blank slate, you can see that the images and acting are quite remarkable. The scenes, the color, everything is beautiful. you just need to watch it without the book in mind. Give that a try

Again that is just an opinion

  • I just finished this book and loved it. But WTF is this movie about?

Not about the book, I can tell that much.

  • i like it, yes of course, the book ant the movie are like to different stories, but any way i like it, there's beautiful music in the film too, composed by Adrian Johnston

  • What is the song in the beginning of the trailer called?!

  • This version is pure garbage! It has been TOTALLY rewritten and distorted so that is NOTHING like the novel. It has completely eradicated Waugh´s message. It is, in fact, an outrage! The people are unattractive and dreary and the accents are quite hideous! Upper class people did not speak with flat estuary accents in the 1920s! The TV version was by far the best!

  • The movie was great. Touching in every way. The acting was great and the story is of course too. The book is amazing as well.

  • This movie was painful to watch :( I felt so sorry for Sebastian...

  • @paintedsilverwing for me too, and did too, absolutely :( ! just seen the film (haven't read the book) and I just say it's great.. and moving, but it was kinda impossible for me to watch it properly after the ball scene..

  • I think Ben Whishaw is amazing in the role of Sebastian (he doesn't just play Sebastian, he IS Sebastian), but the rest of the movie ... if you haven't read the book you can enjoy it, but if you have, then you miss it.

  • I did`nt read the book, so I can`t compare. Nevertheless, it was a great movie,I love the location shots, characters, plot etc.

10/10 for the best movie I seen in a awhile!

  • it was a good movie but like all movies based off books the book I thought was much better. LOL I am rereading it now for the third time

  • well i guess we all are dissapointed if the actors don`t look like we had imagined. and if the scenes we love are shortend. books are giving us more room for imagination.

  • Well the movie just changed so much. when I was watching the movie because I read the book a long time ago so I didn't realy remember much of it. I had to go back and reread it. It's so different. Like the love between Julis and Charles that doen't come to show until much later in the book.

  • it's really a bad copy of the only and original one with jeremy irons. i never thought that even they supposed to make something different and better.

    what a crap!

  • they didn't even show charles' conversion to catholicism in the movie.

  • Wow. They must have had to SERIOUSLY ham this book up to make it into a movie. I loved the book, but I'm a little scared to even watch this.

  • I would be fawning over Charles too.

  • The movie was good. Average. I didn't hate it, but it has nothing on the brilliance of the novel.

It was missing tons of key stuff that was needed to make the story extraordinary. But it passes :)

  • in the book julia never went to venice with charles and sebastian.

  • Evelyn Waugh would cry if he saw this.

  • They really dumbed this down and wrecked the beautiful language of Evelyn Waugh. Do yourself a favor--skip the movie and watch the BBC series or better yet, read the book with is awesome.

  • Please! Name the song that starts 1.11 for me!

  • This movie is sooo empty and boring... One of the worst movie I have ever seen, totally disappointed after the trailer... Really like the age and the clothes, but no thanks... 2/10

  • It's a series you idiot

  • I found it quite compelling actually

  • Well if you find the film empty and boring then it very much reflects your name, doesn't it ElevatorHead?

  • what did he really wan't?? he already got to do her what more does he wan't???

  • Oh that guy plays 'Hec' in 'Imagine me and you' he seems awesome :) Its like usually when the character you're supposed to like in a film has an affair they make their other half unlikable so you're okay with it, but every character in that movie (IYAM) was so likable.

I like Emma Thompson too and this film seems interesting :)

  • Hey, I was thinking the same thing about Imagine Me and You (love that movie)! So, glad it had a happy ending for all the characters, b/c I liked them all as well.

  • this is one of the greatest movies i've ever seen <3

  • I loved this movie ! It was so powerful ! Why it has got so many negative reviews ? I don't know !

  • i was thinking the same thing. i remember watching the promo for it on tv like, twice. and i dont remember them mentioning its out on dvd.

    i loved this movie!!!

sure it was 'slow' as in: not many ppl in the cast, and not a whole lot of action, but these kind of movies end up being the best in my head.

  • wow looks good but too much spoiler

  • actually not.....it seems like it, but really it suprised me soo much when i actually saw it. :)

  • ok.. i dont mean the music at the beginning but at the end.

  • i hope the music for the whole film isent like this, it dosent suit the story at all!!!!! it maybe suits some high adrenalin action film with vin diesel but not a 1920s era film about the British upper classes.

But the production, settings & the acting look good.

Also it will be interesting how they managed to condense the story into a 2 hour film when the TV series was almost 12 hours long.

  • Yeah this trailer really doesn't do the movie justice in terms of the overall feeling. The movie was very good but it was the music that really blew me away. If you haven't heard the soundtrack, you're missing out!

  • I haven't read the book,and I didn't watch TV series,but I really liked the movie.

I think it is stupid to compare any movie to a book. Of course the book is better. It always is.

  • absolutely agree, the movie is a wonder in itself. But really do yourself a favor and read the book, it's a jewel.

  • Wow! In comparison with the TV Series this film is complete balls..... they've turned it into some kind of thriller thing! :(

  • the movie is better bc hollywood knows that ppl like love triangles. if u don't believe just watch the new star trek.

  • filming location: castle howard, yorkshire, uk

  • Matthew Goode is the greatest actor.

    (And the hottest)

*He is Ozymandias aka Adrian Veidt in Watchmen*

  • this is nothing like the book. It doesn't compare. The old series was much better- every single tiny detail was in there. This film doesn't even have the real plot! But whishaw is good, that I must admit.

  • I just read the book and loved it. I was considering going to rent the film, but after seeing this trailer, I am wondering if that is even a good idea.

  • Ben Whishaw is a spectacular actor!

  • The TV series was much better, in another league. Actually got the whole idea of the book...

  • Ben Whishaw, 30s...Yes, I have to see it.

  • Such a good movie, saw it 23 times in the theatre, can't wait to see it again.

  • this movie`s like: sex, sex, sex in the old beautiful days.. can`t wait to see it ..now! :P

oh,..and that hottie from Match Point..I know I`ve seen him before..gonna have to check where:P

  • watchmen? haha

  • uh..sry I don`t know if he`s in Watchmen:P I`ll check it out though, thanks:)

  • yeah, hes from match point...matthew goode is hott!!!!

and i just saw this, theres only one quick sex scene and its not like really bad. its just them making out

  • Just seen it and I think if you've read the book and expect the film to follow it you'll be sadly disappointed. Despite that, the movie is good. It just doesn't quite send the same message as the novel. The acting, cinematography, and storytelling was exceptional. I particularly loved the scenes between Charles and his father, lol.

  • This trailer is literally all I've seen of the film - surely, they could at least have made that much seem true to the book?

  • i loved this movie! it was so good. i wanted to get it today but it was $20 so im going to wait till the price drops.

  • What is the song that starts around 1:25?

  • spawn - Brand X

  • does anyone know where i can find the song that starts around 1:25 ?

  • "You don't care about me, all you ever wanted was my sister."

WHAT? This is ridiculous. I refuse to watch something so blatantly untrue to the novel.

  • Saw this last week. Two Hours and fifteen minutes. Masses chopped out of the story.

  • hhhmmm this is not like the book at all so in ta way i do not like it but if i imagine it as somethign interly new i think that i might want to see it.

And sebastian is blond what is going on there?

  • what's the music in this?

  • gr8 movie..kinda depressing but could definitely see it again.

  • The director read another book as I did...no way did it resemble it

  • The best of the year.....

  • niente superera' la serie..non ha senso farne il film.allibita.

  • Has this been realsed???

  • Seen it 12 times, can't wait to see it another 12.

  • ben wishaw is brilliant ♥
