This is great but I wish you had the whole segment- with the parody of military chants and the marching sequence. This is really just the finale of it. A few more pixils would be nice, too.
Let me clarify: the song at the beginning of the number comes from earlier in the film and I believe it is titled "Who Knows?". The ending is the Sousa song.
I finally bought "Rosalie" and watched it and was pleasantly surprised. There was certainly the requisite silliness that slows things down, but the interactions between EP and NE were snappy and fun, much of the music is good and EP's dancing is SPLENDID! Three very different numbers and all tops. And she just sparkles throughout the whole film. A must-see for EP fans.
Phenomenal! She's like a force of nature, but with the precision of a computer - incredible dancing! There will NEVER be another like her. A pity only a few of her films are on DVD (check out 'Classic Musicals from the Dream Factory - Volume 3' for 'B'way melody of 1936 and 1938', 'Born to Dance' and 'Lady Be Good'...but we need more of her on DVD - she's too good to languish in limbo! Thanks for the links, Shurayuki18481 - you're a life saver!
Thanks for the info...and thank you for posting all the EP videos. She was spectacular! How lucky we are to be able to watch her so many decades later. Wish all of her film performances were on dvd.
Well, Vera Ellen tried: she came from ballet too (if I'm not wrong...) But Vera's movements were much too acrobatic and "empty", if you understand me. She never had the swing or the "groove" of Eleanor. Not even close!
Plus, Eleanor always seemed to be having a lot of fun when she danced, and that transmits something very positive for those who watch.

This scene was taken from the lovely "Rosalie" released in 1937.

Your Welcome, yes it is a shame that most of them aren't on DVD but I suppose they soon will.
