There is a part of the Hobbit where Gandalf leaves the troop for business of his own, it was never discussed in the book. But apparently in the film it will be that he goes and checks out a rouge wizard called the necromancer, I think that is Christopher Lee.

@Medafets No...Remember, Christopher Lee's character Saruman is the leader of the wizard council. In the Hobbit, Gandalf still trusts and respects him. It is not until the Fellowship of the Ring that Saruman betrays them.
