  • the pull up form lol when you can't do one pull up guitar nerd don't try to correct or use the word form...... form is all in what one considers it... but when you pull your self up from a ledge that your hanging of or your an athlete using funtional strength HE IS USING THE CORRECT FORM it's about brute power the ability to garner from deep with in. But like I said before you give advise make sure you can show a DEMO lol

  • They arent 45 pound plates its 25 pound olympic weights...Read their website; Fran 21-15-9 with 95lbs for squat thrusters and kip ups.. I was a critic too until I tried it out and incorporated it three times a week with my regular weight training. Its amazing and really expands your capabilities to grow and get amazing cardio too again props to those of you that are still doing it!

  • Props to you team forged!! Just finished it yesterday and we threw in the 880 meter warm up and a 1 mile run after a 5 min rest after Fran that you guys suggested for yesterdays WOD!! A damn break off and amazing workout! Screw the critics lets see you post a video of your attempt at it if its so damn easy

  • nice workout. But i think it would be a little more impressive had he done his pull ups with better form. I know it is not about form and is about repetition, but a better form would have made this more impressive.

  • A lot of strength needed in this workout looks like it will work but strength and pacience look very necesarily. Don't think it also amazing because in some time you will get pain in your back and your muscles will not be strong and when your old they are going to be heavy for you to carry around.

  • @Krypekeeper His pull ups are fine and he already knows that. But maybe you should learn some things about pull ups before calling people out on it..they're called kip pull ups, used a lot in crossfit to keep the intensity high instead of only doing like 10 normal pull ups and taking a lot longer

  • control your pull up, and if you cant do 15 CORRECT pull-ups then slow down, rest in between, your tryin to slop your way threw to get a good time but just cheating your self of a full workout

  • @timetilldeath25 just one remark to you buddy - crossfit isn t only high reps low weights, the other variation is also used, just write "crossfit king kong" in the search bar and you will see what i am talking about, yes crossfit may be verry different in nature from traditional fitness, but the two principles "high reps with low weight equals endurance" and "low reps with high weight equals strenght" still aply here

  • @RealCity3 have you done the nancy? that one kicked my ass. the 20 min amrap is pretty hard to, the key is to pase yourself in that one. all of them are challenging. im not lookin forward to doing the dirty thirty. my last one for my 8 week interval is going to be 2 min defence. im not sure what all is in it but its got 10 rounds in it so it has me pretty nervous

  • @proconsulaugustus id say it depends on how many you do of each bcuz almost anybody can (shud be able to) do at least a few of each but the are both very tiring. so i guess im not exactly sure

  • Its a variant of a wide grip pull up and yes it incorporates a kick to engage the core as well. He is touching his chest to the bar. Crossfit isn't meant to get "bigger" its functional strength. He did 45reps times 95lbs is 4275lbs moved in 3:19 and you want to talk ish.

  • @coolerkid220 first, you have no idea what i look like. secondly, this guy would get way bigger if he did pull ups correctly. those kip-ups he's doing use mostly momentum to lift your body, with very little muscle involvement. so he's wasting time doing a virtually useless exercise.

  • how do i get started with crossfit? i'm not knocking on the exercise, but i never did kips because i was used to the traditional pull-up from the armed forces. but these crossfit vids i view are insane, somebody who can do 20 DH pull ups probably cant do a WOD. trust me, i max 18 and feel utterly intimidated when a CF dude/dudette handle a WOD. so how do i go about getting into the crossfit training?

  • It's natural for folks to try and insult those performing CrossFit workouts, as they have their routines and feel threatened by something they don't understand. I know I was intimidated as hell looking in from the outside. Let them throw their temper tantrums and do their name calling; one day they'll try it when no one's looking and then they'll get it. Until then, I say good luck to them.

  • Wow I really have to try this crossfitness out. But like, when I work out in a gym I can't clearly feel how tired I still manage to do like an intense hour of workout. Are normal workouts of crossfit and such "only" those - for this guy 3 min 20? I'm not able to do those 3,20 myself but it just doesn't seem as very long time. But I guess when making such intense excercises you can't go for much longer?

  • @darkmanddk first time you do this it will take you 15min... and you will be dead after. add a 500m sprint and max push ups after if you think you need more, but because you're always at max intensity, you don't need to work out for hours.

  • What kind of pull up is that?

  • @KenMacMillan those are "Kipping" pullups. Instead of just an upward force, you use your whole body to push yourself up, as well as using your body to push you away from the bar. It allows you to do more, faster, more efficient pull ups that actually work more of your body and require you to use many more stabilizers in an active setting. Funny part is we all do them, but after getting tired on our regular pullup sets. You start "kipping" as you reach your last reps, though not as well as him.

I dont wanna sound like I am selling these workout short because they are bad ass. I guess I am stuck in the mindset as u need to be in the gym longer.

  • @BradyMVP66 trust me, i've just started crossfit and still working on my progression to be able to do the WoDs (and have a long long way to go) and the workouts i am doing are the toughest i've done.

    For most WoDs if you can go lift afterwards or do more cardio etc, then you arent doing it with enough effort. I expect there are people who do extra stuff but you wouldnt want to lift after it, you've almost certainly worked everything already and you will be tired and probably suffer bad form

  • First thing you learn in lifting is form.. but I don't see why everybody is dissing on his form. He isn't doing anything WRONG. When you do that many lifts your entire body fucking hurts so bad that if you can even FINISH the lift you deserve a standing ovation. Not be criticized by some overweight jackasses.

  • Fran is not to be screwed with..hard workout..and all you peeps that are calling others fags or pussies or whatever...I've witnessed many a gay man and women that could kick ass on Fran. You have it all wrong...this isn't about sexual preferences, or gender. It's about strength, agility, and being fit. Non-crossfitters don't get it. Apparently some crossfit people still don't either. Just work out. Keep you mind out of other people's bedroom.

  • Solid effort! No doubt. I crossfit from time to time mix everything up and its hard as fuck. I just dont get the kipping pullups. For the sake of gaining strength I would have done chinups instead.

  • @CxOxLxE nope, they do, at my crossfit gym they call them a type of pull up, but standard pull ups are really common more so and chin ups or kipping pull ups, and chin ups are easier than full pull ups and they are often used as part of a progression or as a slight variation

  • @33snic Find a local crossfit gym and give it a try for a couple of weeks. You will be amazed. Most people cannot do it as fast as he did it and it is continuous. As fast as you can. Once you have tried it let me know what you think.

  • Haha, I used to talk so much shit on these guys, till i did it. Got my ass kicked by 2 ones in particular. Not sure what either of them were but we had some Crossfit trainers come in and I did a couple with them. 9-7-5 of deadlift pullups and up downs with a squat jump. Then 21-15-9 with benchpress and ringdips. Never had done ring dips before. Not to say I dont hit the gym as I always did and will, but I do 3 crossfit workouts a week now. good shit

  • Cross fit is nothing new. It is a collection of plyometrics and other finishing exercises that are relevant for sports. Unfortunately, hucksters have gotten people to believe that they are going to build quality mass and a solid physique with finishing movements as the core. They have people believing that just a standard weight training program is only for steroids. LOL.

  • Those are called Butterfly Pullups and it's necessary to do them when doing a Crossfit workout that is done for time, not unless it says "Strict pullups." Otherwise kipping is allowed.

  • @scooniepenn I 100% agree crossfit is an unbelievable workout, but those pull-ups are very momentum based. How come crossfit doesn't encourage pull-ups with proper form? Every other exercise is spot on but why not pull-ups?

  • @lallen4000 Becuase alot of these WODs require a person to do a large quantity of pullups in a small amount of time. Doing them with strict form would take away from the workout itself by slowing down your heartrate due to the fact that you are standing under the bar doing strict pullups, which slows down your movement between workouts. I also know Marines who do nothing but kipping crossfit pullups on the WODs. When the PFTs come along, they knockout 20 strict form pullups no problem.

  • @lallen4000 they actually do... kipping pull -ups are just their "stock" pull-ups per say... they are the most effective way to get the most amount of work done in the shortest amount of time. they also program in strick pull-ups, and even L-pull-ups.
