  • Wow I'm not surprised for the fact that it is a Communist Country. They try anything to empty your pockets..

  • It's still a damn communist country. I got stopped twice in Luangprabang by their local police for not wearing a helmet while riding a motor bike. I too paid on the spot to the guy in charge.

  • I'm sure Lao people are very nice, but such things scary and best possible way to deter tourists,

pity for a small cute country desperate for cash!!,,

  • gush,,,I was planning to go to Laos next month, this presents a big question,is it worth?,I don't think I will ever go there, thanks!!

  • beautiful.

    thank you.

  • all i can tell .........Laos is the .....CORRUPTION country in the world

  • Laos people are respectable and truthful to their cultures. They love to learn new thing about the world but the local laws set their limitations. There is no problem with the people and how they behave. The problem is the laws not helping or protect villagers or foreigners when they are suppose to cause the enforcers are behind all the scams. It would take more than ordinary travellers to stop those monkey from doing shameful thing for their country.

  • Robbery are common problems in Laos. Usually people(males) dressed up in the goverment uniforms such as police or soldier do all the hi jacking for money and jewelry targetted tourists and villagers. In my opinion, the people committed those terrible acts are neither playing part of the local goverment. Laos' local goverment are to blame cause authority are not doing enough to stop the madness. Anyone who have been in the bad experience should settle with local government to fight corruption

  • Marcelo Adnet viu este video.

  • Laos has no law to protect foreigners at all. It's pretty much, you're on your own thing. The solders would take whatever mean to get money from you. They'll give you a no-sense reason to get money from you. If you don't, they'll threaten to put you in jail. If it's possible, we, the foreigners should stop going to Laos. I do not understand why would we keep going to a country that the people there are trying every chance they get to rob us.

  • @yajncuab2001

you are right there is no law to protect foreigners. you are on your won way, the police can hijack you and steal your money everything you have. you can do anything to them. this is the bad thing. and there are many things happends

  • @yajncuab2001 Everyone on Earth has a different idea ofit.

  • Apart from his problem with the soldiers, that is good quality video and sound with what seems to be a very powerful zoom lens. He said he would be heading north. Did he post any more videos of his journey?

  • what is in laos that is worth visiting?im from the philippines

  • @The021773 Laos has many places of interest but for me the best thing of all is the people, they are the nicest people I ever met. I hope I can visit again sometime, Its my favourite place in the world.

  • It's a strange story, I was several times already in Laos. I got already stopped too for control but NEVER either a police officer or a military person asked money from me. And I am a foreigner as well.

  • Laos my great grandmother was born here but I never knew much about my Laotian side is Laos a nice place or is it violent

  • @Yoshi1x8

It's a nice place with lots of friendly people over there!

  • @hotelhotel111 Cool c: , Its just seeing the part were they took your money makes me worry about going there but I really want to visit :D

  • I've no idea why you speak English to people who don't understand a word you are saying, I'd say speak less listen more.

  • I was in the capital (Vientiane) this June, I rented a moped and was pulled over twice within one hour. The first time two young soldiers pulled me over for having my head light on. They demand for my passport and driver license; they say I have to go to court to get it back. I told them let me contact my Embassy before they can hold on to my passport and driver license; luckily they let me go. Then about 20 minutes later two old timers pulled me over and told me I have to pay 50,000 kips

  • @koufan 50,000 kips are 5 dollars?

Is it much in Laos? for example how much can you buy at bazaar??

  • @AlberoDeiFichiSecchi 50,000 kips only for one meal in the restaurant, I don't know about at the bazaar, but what concerns me was the moral of the law enforcement officers.

  • i can hardly believe, they demand for money...

    that is wild

    wow

    unreal.

  • I am sorry that you were a victim of this corruption. I am a Lao American that travels often in Laos and incidents like this is one of my fears. Sometimes the fine is so petty, you just pay it. But in your case, I don't know what you or you buddy did wrong. This paints a black eye to what Laos is about. You were also at one of the futhest towns away from the capital and they knew your guilde was a local. They will mess with other Lao too but maybe careful because they can be someone's relative

  • They gave no reason, They stopped every vehicle that came along and took money. I was the only foriegner.

  • @williamorwell

i never trust those peoples they're crook and the government don't do anything about it

  • I am working in Attapeu for a few years now. Can you give more details about the robbery so I can forward it to the local government .Although i have never encountered a robbery as such , I do not think it is impossible. So that's why it has to be dealt with with your feedback.

  • This happened to me one time at a checkpoint. But the thing was, we did not have the title to the motorcycle and paid a $8 dollar fine. So its cool. However, I must ask you what the soldier's reasoning for demanding money? I really need to know because Attapeu is on my to do list.

  • It would help to eliminate any rogue elements which might still exist and more importantly to re-assure those who wish to travel to Laos that the Lao authority does not condole such activities and that no wrongdoer is above the law.

  • This revelation is very discerning indeed. I know that they earn a pittance in the army but this makes Laos - a very beautiful country - look really bad in the eyes the world. It would deter many would-be foreign tourists to visit Laos which means less cash for the country. I am sure that these men are not in anyway representative of Laos PDR and the good Lao people. Altho this video isn't a definitely proof but it has made a very serious allegation and I urge that lao official look in to it..

  • Is it possible that Poo-deck and the soldiers work as a team?

  • @zakunster1 We encountered the soldiers outside a roadside restuarant, there was about 10 of them. We got in the restuarant without them seeing us because they were arguing with a Lao lorry driver, we watched as they threatened him with guns and took money. A minibus full of Lao people came along.they took money from them.then they noticed me, and came in and made me empty my pockets, they held us for about an hour until an officer came and let us go ,Boudem [Poodeck ] was as scared as I was.

  • @williamorwell . WOW, is that a common thing over there? I dont know your tour guide. I was just trying to explore all the options. My wife and I intend to reitre in Thai in a few years so we like to know of other peoples experiences. Love the vids.

  • @zakunster1 I have not heard of this happening to anybody else, I spoke to many people locals and travellers, no one knew of anything like this happening before.I did read in the Lonely Planet guide book that you could get annoyed by military types, but they did not go into detail. I still feel safe travelling in Laos, its my favourite country.

  • @zakunster1 I was there about 4 months ago. We traveled quite a lot. Never encountered a problem as you described. I love Laos.

  • Nice video, Attapeu is my home town. thank you for sharing......

  • Great Video .. Thanks!

  • freakin idiot, at least learn some of the freakin language before you go off speaking english to every single person you meet. dumbass, you're just as bad as americans, thinking everyone speaks english. not that hard to get a fucking book and learn to say something else besides "hello" the whole damn time.

  • @thepookyhead Hi Pookyhead [name suits you] . I speak other languages, but not Laos or Thai. English is the number one language of the world, so is better to use if you dont know the local language. You will find this out if you travel. I did get a book and learnt a few words, but when I spoke them, nobody could understand me. Very difficult to get tone right.. When I say "hello" I am just being friendly. You should try it sometime. Your comment about Americans is unfair, and racist.

  • @williamorwell ignore ignorant kids like him, they are over seas lao. They are not Pure Lao people. Pure lao people are more generous and respectful towards others. That is why they lost the war and must leave the nation

  • @sengoku17 Thanks for your comment , I agree about Laos people they are the nicest I ever met. Laos is my favourite country.

  • @thepookyhead your trash.
