in my opinion the mini theme of renewal and redemption was never done so well as it was in this film. the conflict was not as simple as hero versus villain but the war with our own dark nature. tame your beast and you harness its power without becoming its slave. a sound philosophy when you think about it. also the setting is nostalgic encompassing the spirit of a bygone age. thumbs up
I think that this would be a great reboot or if anyone has seen the phantom on Syfy, I think that it would be a cool story to modernize. I mean with all the high tech stuff, it would be cool to see how the shadow can get past all of this stuff. This was one of those films that yes there is some cheddar and moments where your like, nobody noticed the big ass mongol warrior walking the streets of New York? but its still a good movie, a classic weekend movie. My shadow pick, Matthew Bomer!!
@JustSomePerson888 True, now that I think about it. I think he would probably have to have a team or a tech person who could get him past all of the high security stuff.
@eventingirl001 - well if you say to western doctors that you know reincarnation etc is true, then their satanic cult can use that to label you mad, cause their fake-religions don't recognise it as the fact it is. his temp lobes were fried, but he should have just kidded them on he wasn't the khan.
I saw this in the dollar theater when i was 14. Blew my mind. I'm having a very difficult finding alec baldwin interviews about this movie. Does he like hate it cuz it wasnt a commercial success. By far his greatest movie. Everyone knows he is the ultimate Batman, he just wouldnt get into great shape. But that was the 90's.
The production design on the film is memorable, Baldwin is genuinely giving it his all, the photography is wonderful and the music is typically good Goldsmith. This kind of film is very tricky to get right. I didn't think it amounted to a real success, but it definately was fun to watch.
I have no idea how to post a comment apperntly. Hate to burst your bubble but the entirety of Batman comes form The Shadow. " my first [Batman] script was a take-off on a Shadow story" said by Bill Finger writer of Batman's debut. I agree that's no reason to hate, but get your facts straight.
I'm aware of that. I'm refering to how burtonrules123 act like Batman Begins was a rip off of The Shadow film, when it's not. Yes, Batman comics was insipired by the Shadow, but Batman Begins hardly borrow from The Shadow film. They both are rich crime fighter & are vigliantes, but that it. They have different path of how they became who they are & they both have different way of fighting crimes. burtonrules123 just hate any Nolan's Bat films & make excuses on why.
Exactly how?? Last I check, Batman Begins is a copy from the Batman comics. Thus, The Shadow film copy Batman comics first instead, Peter Tancordo. Beside, Batman was never bad from the beginning like the Shadow. And he never have super powers. Thus, Batman Begins is not a rip off. Hate Batman Begins or The Dark Knight all you want, but don't be so biased to make up lies & excuses as on why you hate it. Batman Begins is not a rip off of The Shadow. And that is the truth.
Thanks for this great film. Baldwin was ultra cool. Miller was hot. Great support from Lone, McKellan, Boyle, & Curry. Fabulous score from Jerry Goldsmith. This should have been hit out of the park.
" Da So Kopla Ta gochemen"...wha? Anybody know? Why did all the whore and thieves, and dealers laugh..?? I THINK he said,"...and nobody on Youtube is going to know what I am saying in order to explain it to that guy who keeps asking what I just said...!" -shucks-
country...my friend...You have answered my question!!! It is a question that has plagued me for YEARS (Humm...two decades? There about!) Because you have done this for me, I will speak in your behalf...please choose wisely. ASK for that gift, that skill, or power, that remedy or solution, that you seek above all others, and I shall ask for you from my Father...I can ask and one must ask if one is to receive. You have honored me, I wish to honor you, Please respond..soon.
@ferroxian No thanks to the gift. Sorry, but I am wary of strangers bearing gifts after reading the Illiad. Those who don't remember history and all that jazz.
I love the radio show, especially when Cranston was played by Bret Morrison and Margo by Grace. I liked the lighthearted-ness. I love it when Margo and Lamont go to the commissioner's office and bug Weston. :D
@superman1749 pretty soon I would imagine. On this shadow website I'm a part of, the site owner told me someone has already ordered it on Blu-Ray and will be getting back to him about bonus features and stuff. :D
@Secundas: I was listening to an radio show on the history of the Shadow and nothing on that story. But maybe the pulp fiction novels may have listed something that they borrowed. I have listened to many episodes of the Shadow radio show and a few early ones had the shadow make the bad guys kill each other and of course it sounded like he enjoyed it w/ his maniacal laugh. Triva: Orson Wells and Agnes Moorhead (endora from Bewitched) were the Shadow and Margo Lane for a season.
@barrencross1969 That's cool; I dig the touch of evil the character has. I looked around and read somewhere that at some point in the show and/or novels there was reference to him having learned his mysterious arts in the Far East, though I don't think it was ever specified where or how, so I guess it fits.
Good quality videos, English language, complete movie, no subtitles: exactly what I was looking for.
I really appreciated this movie when I saw it at the time: they gave the Shadow the exact face he had on pulp covers and comic books. The 30s re-creation was gorgeous too.
I love how Jerry Goldsmith puts the Dies Irae into the music at 9:02. Genius. I always come back to this score. So sinister. Wish they'd release a 2-disc set of the scoring sessions, but with the film being a huge financial failure, it'd take producers interested enough in niche releases to pursue the rights. (As for the film, I wish it had a more consistent tone. After this part, it gets schizophrenically tongue-in-cheek.) Baldwin tries, but the only one helping him seems to be Goldsmith.
@CasualAnalyst Do you only have the original score with like 13 songs? Cause I've got the extended score uploaded here on youtube so if you want you can take a listen. If there's any you like just let me know and I'd be more than happy to help out a fellow Goldsmith fan and upload it to sendspace for you to download.
This remake better be the shit, when I first saw this movie I was 4 along with The Phantom with Billy Zane both movies were effin' awesome even today no matter what anyone says they were better in theaters though.
Awesome job TheShadow772, I was just browsing on here to see if this movie had been uploaded, cause if it hadn't I was going to upload it. Hope The new Shadow movie doesn't tank and foul up the legacy this one has!
