My dad Victor Morales Sr is plays both sax parts on this song. I was there at the recording session and the song and the name of the Sunglows has stuck with me for almost 50 years. I was just begining to play the trumpet and my older brother, Victor Jr. played the sax also. The song stuck in my memory cause they played the song over and over again for 2 plus hours. It was my first recording session with my dad and it made a lasting impression all these years. Thanks for posting. Dad saw it too
I had forgotten this title from so many years ago when at Hawthorne Junior High School in San Antonio in the '60s, yet the melody lingers on and on and on and I love it! Today they meet up again in my mind. A time of my Surfer haircut now meets Padre Island, but that's alright!
Aww wow!! I love the memories this rola brings back!! My jefita blasting it in our living room, while she was cooking with her apron on. And my jefito coming in and grabbing her and they'd be dancing around the kitchen into the living room!! Both smiling! I hadn't heard it in years!! I have the original 45, that was my moms, in storage. Thank you for bringing the memories back!
This was one of The Fabulous Sunglows greatest hits not just in Texas but in the USA! So many of us have forgotten the racial discrimination that existed against "La Raza" during that era. Even so, The Sunglows' rendition of "La Cacahuata" or as it is better known, "Peanuts" overcame that boundry. This is great to hear it once again.
I'd like to hear "Pa Todo El Ano" from the Sunglows and also "Reloj".., no markes las horas porque voy a enloquecer. etc.. Love these oldies. classics , and one of a kind. All the good singers and bands come from San Antonio!! Go San Antone...
Does anyone remember the dance some would do for this song? People would join arms in a line and move back and forth together across the dancefloor? Was that an LA thing?
It's amazing, the old days of AM radio, when you could hear this one minute and the Stones the next, then something like "Lapland" by the Baltimore and OH marching Band, then back to something like the Supremes or Beatles, then SInatra.. without ever changing the dial.
Truly one of the most universally loved instrumentals of all time. The single went to #3 on the charts in March 1965 and inspired an equally irresistible album of the same name.
Wow I think I still have this 45 record in a box with all my old records. Brings back memories of our house parties and weddings. We always played this song. Ajua!!!!
someone did re release the fabulous sunglows on cd. and i remember this song all to well. thanks for posting it!!! i wish I could remember what was on the other side of this 45!!
Wow what memories! I found this same 45 record in our old window air conditoner when we moved many years ago... dont know how it slipped it there...I still have it....I luv this song...
orale,....I actually danced to this live at a fall festival at Our Lady Of Sorrow's in San Antas....KONO the TV staion used it in some of their promos back in the day.....
Howdy GSG here! When MY bro. and I went to Dimas's viewing I asked my brother bill isn't that louie escalante standing up there? Met the guy, It was the sax player playing on that recording."Peanuts". Wow!!
This is an old favorite of mine. great song and brings back manny good memories. Like they say in my barrio, esa rolla no fue a la escuella.......Ta bruta.
there are no words to this song... ritten by Louie Guerreo the guitar player for Isidro Lopez in the sixties I,m afraid he passed away from what I here/// we drank a lot of wine to gether
Greg Ramirez was the Bass Guitarist for the Sunglows. My Father was the Guitarist. Greg and his family use to live in our neighborhood back in the 70's. Our families use hang out all the time. Those were great times!!! The last time i saw Greg was back in the 80's when he was working at Dacburts Music. I was asking him for advice on restoring my father's original Fender guitar.
Back in the late 80's I was playing with The Felix Orchestra,on guitar in SA,,Felix hired a vocalist who also was playing the axe: when we did this song I noticed he was playing some wrong chords, at break I corrected him,,after the gig I found out who he really was, his name was Greg Ramirez, the guitar player who recorded this song...
I would love to do that for you, but the flip side on my record is"Fallaste Corazon".I know that there is on with the same record number that has that song.Maybe some one else has it.Sorry I could not help, but thanks for asking.
I have the album "The Fabulous Sunglows" which has "Happy Hippo" which was written by my dad and Manny. I wish i had a way to copy the songs from album to CD.
