This is one of the best arrangements of an unfinished work ever, although not everyone could applaude this! Instead of pretending to be another composer, Schnittke creates a sort of environment, a pre-existing world before the Mahler's ideas. The most beautiful thing is that we listen to Mahler at the end and there is coherence, but that excerpt was supposed to sound at the beginning.
