hmm i realise its a stage but wielding a hand and a half with two hands is a waste of combat resources if you have a free hand or even another blade you can combo giving your opponent no room for a counter
did that fat one just announce she see's a "CUNT" ??? they should stop looking about making observations regarding each other and just fucking kill each other! fucking pair of over dramatic cunts!!! but i guess we all kow how much women like to talk! :O)
a job WELL DONE ladies...I loved this dual compared to the other recent videos I have watched....I aim to be excellent at this craft and this is hands down inspiring to me....BRAVO!!! *claps*
I have been teaching sword play for over 7 years, I have competed full combat professionally for over 19 years. I was trained by possibly one of the geatest fencers in the world (Bob Anderson) I own and run a professional medieval academy, and i am a woman......! Well done girls, so what if no one fully understands the practices that have to go into creating a fight scene, what you have managed to do is create a STAGE FIGHT that can be passed on to other actors, thats what stage fighting is about
I'm not gonna lie: I had figured that this was gonna be really lame.
I was pleasantly surprised, though.
The choreography was VERY impressive (I noticed that there was even a bit of half-swording at a couple points, nice) and you captured the essence of a real sword duel quite well. There were a few moments in which I could definitely see anticipation in your execution, so watch out for that as far as selling the illusion of the choreography as being spontaneous.
Actually I'm impressed ! the rythm and speed is good and realistic (that's something really rare in show fencing). I would say you still need some work about position (your body) and to get more clear weapon handling (you should keep your weapon treatening your partner ...) ... but you really have good abilities ! just go on
What do you mean by not real swords? They are not sharp as that would be dangerous, but other than that they are real swords. Not all swords are heavy, these are hand and a half bastard swords, properly weighted and made of steel.
Yes, I have heard of Claymores. Most historical ones weigh 6-8lbs. Still nowhere near 20-30lbs. Google ARMA and read their essays on sword weights. or just google claymore weights and read for yourself.
@marysiak yeah stage swords are on occasion made of aluminum but most are still made of steel they just aren't sharp and have rounded tips. But the weight is the same. And even with the precautions of dulling the blade they are still dangerous if hit. I applaud you ladies. I know how tiring rapier choreography can be let alone longsword!!!
@ghost00110 Two pounds is the bottom end of the curve. Four pounds the top. The general formula for a western sword is about 8 to 16oz per foot of length.
A Katana (since everyone talks about how much lighter they are) Is about 4.5 to 15oz per foot. Real weapons were very light.
However people do talk to one another during plays, in fact it's pretty much a requirement otherwise they would be mime, and no-one wants that. People complain about the weirdest stuff on here.
@lanson0 Wow sounds like you were alive back then and doing some pretty hefty sword work as well...are you a wizard of sorts or perhaps a nymph of some kind?
@lanson0 Actually your wrong, holywood exagerrates, but there is plenty of istorical evidence to suggest exchangesof wrds during a fight- ever read the viking sagas?
Sorry, but it's quite funny - girls with longswords. Why? The nobility of Europe in 10 -15 century, who were allowed to carry a sword, were only men (some exceptions do exist). Girls in mail armour und man-like abilities are a invention of Hollywood.
Though your comment could have been interpretted as sexist, I do agree somewhat. The broadsword and armour were invented for the body shape of a well-built man.
A woman on a man's level in combat, however, is hardly a myth. Many Scandinavian/Euro nations implemented women in warfare due to their agility when trained and shrill battlecries.
How do you know? Were you there? Unless you're an eye witness, you can't really be sure. Whatever is left in writing, be it true or false when it was written, is most of our history books today.
So basically you're saying the romans had the Concorde and motorcars, the pyramids were built using helicopters and the great wall of china was finished within a month?
Needs Tull.

I didn't see any hands come off....
Suprisingly, a lot of halfsword techniques involve grabbing the blade. It's not as dangerous as it would seem.

you can tell they are not real swords none of you would lift them up but then again... love the sounds and shouts reminds me of watching women tennis

The acting makes me cringe something fierce, but they seem comfortable handling the blades, which is too rarely seen in choreography. Nicely done.

Just one example.
