@Luigi84289 No the Donkey Kong port made by Atarisoft was the first to have all four stages intact. the Ocean version(seen here) just had the how high can you get between level scene which was missing from the Atarisoft version.
@Evilmonkey66699 The Atari 800 cartridge had all 4 levels in, (that is not the same batch as Atarisoft). Also the BBC version has all 4 levels (killer gorilla).
@ioport The only problem with the atarisoft version is the slowdown (maybe a PAL issue?) which makes this game very boring. The ocean version is a lot faster and makes this game more fun to play. But when it comes to graphics and sound, the atarisoft version is faaaar superior.
Back then i always wondered why atari didn't just make commodore a home video game. It had so much potential. It was ahead of it's time in many ways. Having arcade graphics that bested coleco by a feel notches including 5200 at least until commodore amiga showed up. It also rivaled nes.
Atari did make "Atarisoft" versions of their most popular video games for all sorts of home computers in the mid-'80s, including the C64. This is not the Atarisoft version. I have the Atarisoft Collection for the C64, and its Donkey Kong is completely different (and much BETTER) than this!
o m g ive been stuck on this thing for i dont knwo hwo long.. cant beat the last lvl!! ive got ust over 100 hrs.. ny tips on this game id be glad to hear um
Wowza... as a kid I spent so much time playing this... I completely forgot about the sounds etc... thanks for posting this vid man... great nostalgia...
The Colecovision port was way better than that.

@y2k4ever1 haha! You mean Pauline and DK? I think I get it ;D

This version looks and sounds absolutely horrible. Why did they bother? The old Atarisoft version was far better.
talshiarr 1 year ago
This version was the first to have the full game. All 4 levels finally playable at home.

i loved this version on the c64. At the time it was the best port available!!!!
facistleader 2 years ago
atleast this is closer to the gameplay of the original arcade game than the NES one that didn't even have all the levels
wbroz 2 years ago 7
Yeah that was stupid. We want level 2 dammit!
Luigi84289 2 years ago
The Ocean version sucks. The older Atarisoft C64 version is much more faithful to the arcade (looks and sounds better) than this crap.

Hmm. Must be a PAL issue. I own the actual cart and there is no slowdown at all

I remember Playing some weird version where Mario/jumpman had these Huge Giant hands an his gloves were yellow and he could crush the barrels by
swinging his arms ??? then there was the Remake on
the Gameboy with the green screen and you could unlock the Original in DK64. man those were good times.

This has to be the most accurate version of Donkey Kong next to the arcade!
Bittergamer1886 2 years ago 2
It most certainly is not the most accurate version of Donkey Kong. Check: DQgd5p-Z5DY
Petrander 2 years ago 2
Okay okay. No need to be hasty. BTW,is that a link? And also,I may have found a more accurate version. It's on the Adams computer.

is it just me or does Pauline look like she has a.... boner?

Talk about shitty graphics, its like just better than the commodore, but only by a little.

Pretty faithful port of the arcade. I'll have to check out the C64 version.

This isn't the C64 version. I think it's the Amiga version. I just played the C64 version last night and this is not it.

its the united kingdom version of Donkey Kong, the US version is not the same

It seems like when Donkey Kong takes Pauline up to the next level, it sounds like forgets his ''lines''.
SuperMarioMaster91 3 years ago
there was also a version just called kong that had a different guy rather than mario. I prfered that version
fayik123 3 years ago
fayik, was that for the C64 as well?
ReorderTone 3 years ago
WOuld have been icing on the cake to allow mario to have hammer at very top to cluck ole kongo upside the head and then him fall head first! LOL

cool i love commodore and this version has good graphics and has the pie factory NES eat your heart out

This is one rare version to feature the pie factory. If only the NES version featured that it would be more of a classic.
lordbemylight 4 years ago
There was a version that cam on a cartridge back in 1983...this isn't it...
jci10 4 years ago
This is a (later) European disk version by Ocean. The original was done by Atarisoft on cartridge.
