If they'd stayed docked they could have used the Agena to get back under control, right? If they'd realized it was the Gemini's problem.
Agree w/ the comments re. Armstrong, he'd proved he could handle emergencies and this came in handy also during the landing although he and Buzz actually caused the emergencies that day by making a mistake.
But surely NASA was always going to give the landing and first step on the moon to a civilian astronaut, which left them with no other choice but Neil.
Actually, the LLTV accident where Armstrong ejected barely 100 ft from the ground was at Ellington Field in Houston about 6 miles from what was then The Manned Spacecraft Center, now JSC.
Neil Armstrong had another close call practicing his landing on the moon for Apoolo 11.It was some contraption they rigged up and it sputtered and popped and took a nosedive to the ground.Armstrong ejected one second before that thing hit the ground and exploded. The ejectione seat had small rockets itself and shot straight up and away from the explosion. He parachuted back down and was safe. This happenned at Langley Air Force Base in Virginia. They gave up on that thing and went to simulators..
Don't forget when he was flying the X-15 toward a landing at Edwards AFB it unexpectedly bounced off the atmosphere during re-entry and ended up over Pasadena! The X-15 was just gliding at this point, he was able to get it turned around and glided back to a safe landing at Edwards 40 miles away.
Neil Armstrong was very cool under pressure here. The craft was spinning at 360deg per second at the height of the emergency and the crew were beginning to have trouble seeing properly and it was hard to accurately move arms and hands to operate the controls but Armstrong was focused on what the problem could be and correctly dealt with the situation saving himself and Dave Scott. This didn't go un noticed at NASA.
It was Neil Armstrong and David Scott. They had to use certain thrusters to stabilize the spacecraft which meant they had to returtn to Earth .They were rotating at one revolution per second and becoming disoriented. When the stuck thruster ran out of fuel they were able to stabilize the spacecraft. They had to land somewhere in the South Pacific, and a ship was sent to get them. They were alright.

would the 360 rotation a second have produced artificial grav?

@clayzee001 Not from the astronauts' seats

@clayzee001 Yeah, that was the problem, they almost blacked out because of too much force.

Between this, and the LeM sim ejection and walking on the lunar surface ... Neil Armstrong is one badass futhamukka!

Does anyone know the name of the song/artist? Love those 80's style guitars. Many thanks to the one who can share the information.

Good flying Neil and Dave!

that part at the ending where they undocked was when both spacecraft were tumbling end over end because of the malfunctioning thruster.

This sucks. I cannot even imagine, how would it be to rotate with such a speed head to toes in space. Those guys had nerves of steel

Good God... I wouldn't want to be them, at that time:-O Thanks for the explanation, by the way! A.

They didn't let the thrusters run out of fuel, they shut them off, then turned each one on one at a time to find out which one was misfiring.
