  • This is just so SO COOL and AWESOME! :D He can jam with just an acoustic, amazing!

  • Pete who been doing research on kids again?? Fucking PEDO

  • @mesmerizeme SPOT ON you dnt need to watch peado porn to know whats happened to you the guys a nonce like gary glitter and wacko jacko

  • @spaced377 GET OFF THE VID

  • @mesmerizeme GET TAE

  • gary glitters mate

  • Tatoo and I Am One are just two great overlooked tunes. With such a fantastic catalog of music I can't imagine why they stick to the "classics" in concert....there all classics! I would love a show where they play only songs that are not considered WHO standards...songs like Love Aint For Keeping, Pictures Of Lily & Guitar & Pen to name a few.

  • @keenanX1 Love Aint For Keeping great tune

  • Pete Townshend = Poet, Philosopher, Social Critic, Artist, Composer, Innovator. The Who was his instrument and it brought expression to his vision.

  • The Who would be so much better today if they actually dusted songs like these off instead of running through the same greatest hits set they've essentially been playing for the past 20+ years.

  • @sconl I agree 100%

  • Yes, this is wonderful and God, so is Pete.

  • Thank you for posting...simply wonderful. :)

  • @sarniarocks ur welcome!

  • Pete, My son Luke Eadie is using your song Baba O'Rley in a Musical Karate Form. He would like very much if you could view it and let him know what you think. YOU TUBE Search Luke Eadie UTA Christmas Party 2010 and that should come up. That is his first performance with it in public. Tang Soo!!!!!!

  • Pete is, possibly the most underrated genius, except for his true fans who 'get it'. These are only two of...well, so many amazing songs he's written. Some of my personal favorites however.

  • @dougww1ectebow I just don't understand how he could possibly be under-appreciated. You'd have to be an idiot not to see the brilliance. But, yes, I guess people can be "quite thick". Also, how is it that Pete is not already in the Songwriters Hall of Fame??

  • It's either classic, or it's rare, not both :-) But I liked it so thanks for uploading!

  • fuck yes!

  • fucking youtube is shit i have tried to leave a message but given up cos so crap

  • Which is the name of the first song?

  • @FedeMetro "Tattoo" off SELL OUT

  • pete isnt a drunk he hasnt had a drinkin about 20 years, he is a bit mad but all great composers are.

  • Pete is the man. IMHO the only guy who really understands R&R. Very cool to hear him playing the really old stuff....

  • The only time townshend should open his mouth is to sing, he is a daffy old revisionist burned drunk, wrote some good tunes though!

  • Briiliant...!!!.......makes me feel inadequate when I play my guitar and sing and I've been playing for a good few years now... ..Hero

  • Gorgeous and haunting melody, makes me tingle, and i'm only bloody a 20 yr old girl!

  • @WannabeLyricist that's a good thing!

  • What a beautiful and intimate little moment. Townshend proves he's a gentleman. Sitting in a crappy cement block room after a show to play what he loves....

  • Pete Townshend is the reason I learned to play guitar! It's not about technical precision or the ability to finger as many notes as possible - it's about feeling and the ability to invoke feeling and emotion with your music. For me, nobody does that better than Pete Townshend...

  • the best

  • This was played AFTER a show?!? My respect for the man just grew leaps & bounds! That's proof that he's not "in it for the money", but truely enjoys the joy of sharing his talent and just playing for kicks! (And one damned lucky fan, if I may say so).

  • @Featster74 Pete Townsend has a long history of making weird home videos and putting them on the internet. often bizarre drunk rants. he's a hoot.

  • awesome

  • Gotta Love Pete!

  • When I saw The Who play Quad back in the late 90's when Pete sang "I Am One" the entire crowd lost it and sang the entire thing with him. One of the greatest albums ever and it blows Tommy out of the water as far as I'm concerned.

  • Nice. It seems the second song is deliberately cropped to hide Pete's strumming technique.

  • lookie loo

  • well hi buddy beautimus everyday who looked thru

  • This is brilliant!

  • I love Pete ...I'm Alive because of his music

  • This made me smile...thanks for posting...Love Pete's voice and playing!

  • UR WELCOME!

  • beautiful.

  • LIVE AT LEEDS NOW SMASH THAT SHIT!!!

  • No one plays acoustic guitar like Pete Townshend. I could listen to him play it any time any song.

  • Go Pete!

  • Hands down my all time favorite entertainer/song writer.

    5 stars

    Cheers

  • @mac2crack

100% agree with you man - Pete is the # 1 most great influential man in all of rock music...IMO

  • rock and roll! these are jems and the music speacks it all.

  • if you want to dicuss petes past then go ahed but the real pete fans care about the music and not what mistackes he made so all those descussing kiddi porn go and die cause you are not wanted on these videos

  • I'll second that motion.

  • Well said ! I've always thought of Pete as a Leonardo Da Vinci figure of the last 150 years , He is a master at soo many skills and talents most people have no idea about . He would be the ONE person I'd like talk too living or Dead..

  • @nyjetstowshend I love it. I love the way fans can even overlook paedophilia in their heroes. What a fucking world of maggots we live in. A mistake is when you add two numbers and forget to carry the '1' you moron. And check my spelling of mistake for the correct one. 'C' is nowhere near 'K' on the keyboard.

  • @Nautilus1972 i used to be nyjets townshend but i dont use that profile any more. mate you cant say anything about pete, i love the man and will defend him always, he saved my life a few times. oh and my spelling it cause im deslexic you tard.

  • respect that you deal in facts, fair play. And the issue is too serious to deal in anything other than facts. There are alot of facts in the Townshend case including him publishing extracts of The BOOK on his website blog years before this court case. his work with double O' & Maryville acadamy supporting abuse. His appearances on Letterman from '93 on elsewhere on youtube for these charities are easily found.

  • @paolo1chop Yes, but what's that got to do with this music video? Nothing.

  • The point is you can tell him what you want ,even you get the opportunity ,but he's already been told , held accountable & gone thru public shaming more than someone who is anonymous(not famous)

Will you be planning to confront 'real' & convicted nonses also ? Why did the anti-abuse charities say they hadnt heard from Townshend about what he found on the internet website and then produce the correspondence they got from him when the case went to court? Will u find out facts & not soundbites ?

  • Certainly, most popstars are overated. People should try listening to more Jazz, but they never will.

  • Strong man is Pete, faced his charges in public. Found innocent but still putting up with nonse accusations from invisible anonymous cowards.

  • It's just the fact that you'd take the time to NUMEROUSLY visit a video of an artist that you don't like and put him down in front of his fans, and claim that you're right and they're wrong.

It's amazing you think that people will think highly of you for it.

By the way, I'm 15. I don't believe today's music is anywhere near as good as that of 30-45 years ago. Back then there was more passion, more meaning, more influence and more importantly, more skill.

    Today's music lacks that.

  • Man you're a real bitch...

    You're pathetic.

  • The key to this clip is the info pane to the right.

    It says"... after the show"!!!!!!

He sat down and played this stuff AFTER THE SHOW!!!!

How many jaded performers 1/3 his age and with 1/50th his talent and experience hand their guitar to a roadie and make a beeline for a beer and the bus back to the hotel to get drunk and go to sleep.

Almost 50 YEARS LATER he's still into rocking hard.

    F**K the Jonas Brothers.

  • Music today sucks

  • Thank you. Priceless post. Man, that dinner...who writes his contracts. Humble repast.

  • Yes He is on the MOUNT RUSHMORE of Rock and Roll

  • petes my best!

  • great video. thanks for the upload

  • no prob

  • "embarassing , foolish and ill advised"? You are the one not knowing what he's talking about, not me. "remain silent"? pfffff, funny guy... have you tried the circus? Are you 9 or what's your problem? Talk to you again when you grow up clown! :o)

  • lol, whaterver! :D The Who were the originators, there's nothing before them to compare them to, how can something be rated which is in the League of 1? Eather you like it or not, I'm not a big The Who fan, but I get the point, they were the first power rock band, then came the others and it went on from there...

  • Isn't this really the actor Gene Hackman

  • I gave you a thumbs up even though I love Pete: it was funny.

  • by what rate? :)

  • The sensitive side of Pete - love it.

The Who Sell Out is one of their finest albums.

  • great stuff if you like this you might like lobelia sound i need ,my home go on you want to

  • pete if you ever read find the prick who knocked the door and smash a strat over his head ps youre still the towsers testicles

  • He was put on the offenders register for 5 yrs , he didnt get away with anything. His work into abuse started decades before his autobiography. u just need to look up youtube 'pete townshend and eddie vedder on letterman' ,'pete townshend letterman 93 pinball wizard' (Emily's mentioned at end of performance,Pete's personal friend ,abuse survivor he met & helped thru Double 'O charity. check out his solo cd's profits to abuse charities. NO JAIL AS A RESULT OF NOTHING DOWNLOADED.POLICE FORENSICS.

  • if you dont think this video is fantastic your crazy

  • Townshend is not talentless, and no matter what happens, it will be pretty obvious that he is not. Whatever he does, you can't deny that simple fact. Anyway, a pedophile is not gay, to some dumb-ass that had say that, a pedophile is a sick man. There's nothing in Pete's history or words that could make me think of him as a pedophile, that's for sure.

  • the man has more talent in his toenail as a thousand of his "fans"

  • Please explain to me how Pete Townshend, one of the architects of rock and roll, one of the most talented song writers since the beginning of the 20th century, and an inspiration to more people than you have met or ever will meet, is a "talentless dumb fuck" TheCottonTop. Why are you even watching a video of him if you have no respect for him.

  • didn't get your comment My man, what you mean by saying it?how'd you know bout it?

  • lucky u you're welcome

  • I love his chords--so beautiful. Yes, he is genius. Thank you for posting this.

  • agreed

  • thanks for posting!

  • YOU ARE WELCOME!

  • lovely.

    happy bday pete!

  • Fortunate enough to see The Who multiple times and Townshend solo. Favorites above all else. Y'know, you can shred, play fantastic lead etc., but that rarely makes a song. Townshend is a masterful musician, writer, and yes, a guitar god. Truly a rock star with substance.

  • He's average as lead guitar player, but then so is Clapton & everyone used to think he was God, even though he couldnt step outside the blues scale. Townshend was the first guy to show u can be a great guitar player without needing to be a lead player. Innovative Concepts, great chords/intros/song cycles, rythum playing, songwriting. He had alot more going for him as a musician than any one thing. I dont know how great or not He is, but he's better than 'average'.

  • no shit he wrote all there material

  • Townshend was the mind of "The Who"

  • but Keith was the Heart and u cant doubt that. RIP Moonie

  • and Roger is the Voice of The Who

  • And Keith is the Heart of The Who

  • wow he's SO beautiful !!! I think I'm in love with him lol

  • Are you serious? His songwriting is right up there with Lennon and McCartney, His live performing is so intense, it even made Hendrix envious of him. He's one of the most iconic and influential rock musicians of all time. Why are you so ignorant?

  • well said- i've always preferred petes riffs and chords etc to all the flashy lead guitar players- even when i was about 13- best riff maker ever and songwriter if u ask me

  • Pete Townshend is the Mozart of the 20th century!!

  • Thanks

  • my pleasure

  • holy shit he strums fast during the rhythm part

  • That is the power chord and he's the only guitarist that plays in that way.

  • great singer and songwriter

  • have a good one

  • obviously you are not a musician

  • my son u need to study rock and roll no matter what you think of him as a person he is one of the greatest musicians that ever lived it's that simple

  • LOL UH I DON'T THINK SO

  • I love this man . Especially " I am one " is so great . Thank You

  • f'ing A. nice to watch this stuff every now and then to remember Pete kicks ass.

    Long live rock

  • Pure magic. And he's kept his voice all these years. Amazing to get that on video. THANKS for sharing!

  • He was never put on the list. He was only investigated by the Yard cuz he approached them based on the info he found on the net during his investigation of abuse. DO NOT ever suggest such an aberration.

  • Umm.. i have "Tommy" when it came out

& on cd, i play the cd to stop me wearing

    out the record..

    I bought a gibson j200 & play petes stuff,

if your thinking of buying one dont hesitate

    its fuckin awsome!!!

  • The most important guitarist.

  • i always prefered his acoustic playing. the reason why i picked up guitar. and john the reason why i picked up bass.

  • RESPECT Mr Townshend

  • There is so much to be grateful to Peter Dennis Blanford Townshend for -- Tommy, the power chord, saving Eric Clapton's life twice, etc. There is no guitarist who plays like Pete and there is no writer who can compare to Pete. Just look at Tommy, Who's Next, Quadrophenia, Empty Glass (you have to count his solo stuff), etc. This is a man who literally changed music. Thank you God -- although I'm sure Pete would refer to Avatar Meher Baba. Whoever, I don't care, just thanks!

  • Well said...

  • A plastic spoon perhaps?

  • The mark of a real guitarist is proficiency on the acoustic without the aid of any tricks or gidgets (as Keith Richards, another rhythmic great has said; catch the bonus part on Shine a Lite where he is noodling on acoustic to himself, sublime). These are just stunningly good songs...

  • Simply amazing!

  • He's fucking amazing on acoustic.

  • That rhythm guitar part was phenominal. That is as impressive as any soloing. Lots of respect for his style. And what's up with the end (knife and fork stuff)?

  • Powerful

  • splendid song pretty good guitarist or so ive heard

    Lobelia Sound

  • Welcome to my life, tattoo... I'm a man now, thanks to you. hilarious

  • I am. a huge beatle fan and just recently started listening to the Who. I got By Numbers and was so impressed with Townshends Blue Red and Grey I immeadiatlly grabed my guitar and learned it. Does anyone have any suggestions of other Who albums or any Townshend solo stuff if there is any.

  • Pete did an album with Ronni Lane (of The Faces) called Rough Mix. A must for anyone who plays guitar and appreciates beautiful songwriting.

  • thanks alot. i will definetly check that out.

  • Buy "Empty Glass", "All The Best Cowboys Have Chinese Eyes" ... and "White City" .... all great solo efforts! And of course, any Who CD/LP.

  • thanks ill definetly check those out as soon as possible

  • Quadrophenia definitely the "essential gatewa Who album". Or it was for me, at least. Good luck. =)

  • Who Came First - Pete's first solo gig.

Dear Lord man, get your hands on that album!

  • Quadrophenia

Tommy (1969 Original Concept Album) [ORIGINAL RECORDING REMASTERED]

    The Who Sell Out

  • thank you billy if that comment was for me

  • yes kid you're welcome

  • Pete......You are "the one"

Thank you for all the years.

  • I luv u pete, but saying elvis made little impact on your music, is not acknowledging how important blues r to rock n roll

  • Maybe, one thing is for sure the who put punk on the map.

  • fucking great. love townshends playing and voice. a real inspiration.

  • The Who's 2000 tour! I saw the Dallas show, a month before this was shot. To date, the Dallas show was the best concert I've ever seen. (And Pete was wearing these exact clothes in Dallas.) Would love to get a hold of the pro-shot Dallas 2000 DVD that is floating around. Any helpers, please help. Thanks. :)

  • I saw the Dallas show also but the MSGarden was the best go on the The Who's website you can buy the recorded DVD's of the MSG shows.

  • what website is that?

  • Since when did he start going bald?

  • u have terrible grammer. i really didnt understand wat u've writen there bud, well i understood the bitch part,(get in line XD). english wasnt even my first toungue although i forgot how to speak spanish. really spanish is a more surpior than english, but english is everywhere so i'd rather speak english. the greeks gave u and me our toungues so y dont u go kiss they're asses. i dont have anything aginst england, or anyother country, i just hate ur ass u spoiled rich bitch.

  • Allow me to translate, he is saying "I'm saying that you're a 'BIACH, as you probably know. You do not spell it correct, It's spelt Racist. I know It's not american, and we give you english, so please, respect it!" Hope that helped:)...

  • thanxs for the heads up!!

  • No worries.

  • lol i kno, its spelt diffrent dependent on which country, england is it?. i plan on going there b4 i die. pete townshend was poor so r calling him dumb?? stop being racest son of bitch and maybe you can be more productive with ur life instead of wasting ur time hatin' people tat u've never met or have no complete understanding of our culters slight diffrences between urs. so go to ur things cuz they mean the world right? go die with ur things, and pray someday tat they'll beat inside.

  • u spelt it wrong...its color. and i'm a yank so go fuck ur self and its never to late dumb bitch.

  • so being poor makes u ignet(spelt wrong on perpouse)

  • dont listen to that joanne woman. the english have pretty much the same base problems as americans have....its just that their teeth look alot more fucked up.

  • england blows but this is great :)

  • yeah who gives a fuck if ur british or not?! but why "fuck weed" man?!? why dude?!?! hahaa weed is good!!!

  • your a bitch who should think about hanging her self.

  • just because im poor doesnt mean im stupid. if anyones stupid its your whole family.

  • english isnt a nation.

  • your just trying to sound british joanneWANKSTER

  • Jesus H. Christ, people, can't we all stop arguing and just enjoy the music? :c

Anyway, the third thing he plays is just. Wow. Pete is awesome.

  • one of the all-time greats

  • actually, I was never fucking stupid enough to say fings instead of things or wiv instead of with... that's what lower class scum like yourself do

  • get a life... jeez and volumes of information? you can't even speak properly... fink? doesn't give anything you say much credibility

  • yeah,he put his details in. And truth is as a fan it was devastating when he was arrested.also he had already written about his book on his website ,what it would contain, story about Emily ,other abuse survivors, his own childhood abuse.I bought also the solo CD's where all proceeds went to abused teenagers(Maryville acadamy)after seeing him ,again, on Letterman with Eddie Veder back in the 90's when I was in the States. He was then profiled in the classic tabloid manner, even David Putnam....

  • ..came to Townshend's defence to put perspective on the work Townshend put into helping abuse survivor's throughout the time he had known him. It was a difficult 2 know what to think when he was arrested knowing the other details about his work & his life ,but he did of course do the wrong thing!

  • a few months before Townshend was arrested he wrote a blog on his website about 'Emily',an abuse survivor in her 40's who he befriended thru 1 of the organisations he funds 2 help abuse survivors. She comitted suicide. He wrote a long piece about her.He mentions her before he smashes the shit out of a guitar on the Dave Letterman show(performing Pinball Wizard. That excerpt was to be included in his book.He has genuinely supported organisations 2 help abuse victims since 1974 financially/personally

  • you're retarded, he was cautioned by police simply because his credit card had accessed a site that distributes child porn. he was writing a book on the subject. the police confiscated 14 computers from his house and found NOTHING On them. The fact that he had to register for 5 years to me is ridiculous, but hey that's England for ya

  • Absolutely a songwriting genius!

  • you should thank him
