  • I still don't get why people are giving Paul so much shit on this video. he has gapteeth but he looks fucking badass anyway, how shallow can you get? also turn the fucking bass up.

  • Happy Birthday Paul! One of the coolest bassists ever...

  • To fast! Good song.

  • is joe playing bass?

  • @MarianoJurda yeah, joes on bass and pauls on guitar. if you havent seen it, watch westway to the world. paul tells in an interview how everytime he wrote a song the rest of the band would playfully mock it and play along to it in a reggae beat. its worth looking up.

  • @MarianoJurda Yes

  • @MarianoJurda Strummer always played bass on this song live. Paul was unable to play it and sing it at the same time.

  • It's amazing. The Pistols were together for 18 months, the Clash, nearly a decade. Ask any Clash fan. The band changed their lives. How many bands can say that? Long live the Clash!

R.I.P. Joe, we love you and will never ever forget.

  • Hey..Joe's playing Bass..cool...

and I like this super fast version.

  • Retarded asshole - Ohthelushlife is.... has not an original thought in his mind....tosses back the same words because he can't put an original thought together, the mark of a truly retarded and lazy asshole, like mother like son....

  • Ohthelushlife- BTW, the same goes for your mother- she's an asshole too

  • Ohlushlife- care to elaborate ? Not a person of substance, I guess...that also makes you an ASSHOLE !

  • Hey Parses6, you sound like a real asshole; Having said that, I'm not advocating for or against Paul. I don't know him. But your ignorant and bigoted remark about his sexuality, and calling him a clown; what did he do to deserve your wrath ? Did he shortchange you ? Step on your toes ? I think the same would be said about you - you would run to mommy too, tough guy..... and asshole

  • @vietrex

    and asshole again....

  • @Parses6 Well, Paul will be remembered my music lovers for a long time, will you?

  • Not the clash knobhead

  • fake clash

  • Aux Raphael, n'oubliez jamais votre premier cri : la rage, ça a du bon!

  • Great thanks, so cool :-)

  • the bass player is fucked up. After rock the casbah he gets mad at the drummer while he was the one that ruin it.

  • cant realy hear the bass

  • Best version!

  • the guitar looks like a fucking mandolin for him. He's such a beast.

  • only 5? ever?

  • 5 people are assholes.

  • paul is my dream man.

  • this song just isn't that hard to sing and play bass. I just don't get why Paul Simonin wouldn't relax and take the time to get it together. swapping instruments around is just silly. Still love the band, just never got this issue... and it WAS an issue with him.

  • @talkingwall well for him was kinda uncomfortable

  • shit tons of people waw

  • who the hell is the drummer??

  • @giulietta16v The drummer here is Pete Howard. Topper Headon got sacked because of his heavy drug abuse, which greatly affected his ability to play. Terry Chimes left the band earlier the same year as this concert was held, so it's not him.

  • Excellent!

  • I was there as a 13yr old & still remember how amazing THE CLASH was & will always will be!

  • no bassssss!!! and it's the essence of this tune!!!

  • Not only is there a cigarette behind his ear but he's chewing gum while he's singing and looking so damn sexy.

  • Fuckin awsome!!!!

  • awesome, really, the best rock band ever... cheers from spain!!!

  • awesome, really, the best rock band ever... cheers from spain!!!

  • awesome, really, the best rock band ever... cheers from spain!!!

  • they were so damn good...

  • The bass is inaudible :(

  • If I was Mick Jones, when the wanker said "Drums & Bass" I'd have walked off stage and gone for a pint or a blow... ;-)

  • @GreenmanXIV simonon said it.

  • I like this concert version even better than the albumn version!

  • Awesome

  • Haha this is absolutely classic. Paul with Joe's tele and Joe playing Paul's bass. Glad I have the chance to see this here, was born 11 years after this fest.

  • Sublime! These guys couldn't get any better! They make reggae look magic!

  • I can't believe I forgot that I was at this concert in 83

    Man I'm getting old ...

  • Paul with guitar and Jo with bass. He looks so badass.

  • two blind people press the wrong button, all is forgiven.

  • they were so great... just gotta love 'em

  • Strummer play better the bass than sid vicious xd

  • exxxxellent....Topper we miss you...

  • EXCLAMATION MARK!!!!!

  • WHERES MICK!!!!!!

  • VHS recording!

  • THIS IS ROME! QUESTA E' ROMA, FESTA NAZIONALE DEL PARTITO COMUNISTA ITALIANO! YANKEE GO HOME!

  • @mastrogiorgio16 Bigot.

  • @mastrogiorgio16 ?? Sono inglesi, stronzo.

  • DRUM AND BASS!

  • @thirdian Even more pioneering then we originally thought!

  • two negligible people have no idea what music is.

  • white kegs...that's when they could afford dry-cleaners...before that they wore black...you can roll over in the mud and shit...no probs

  • I LOVE PAUL SIMONON SO MUCH.

  • i love joe, he is my god, but he kinda sux at bass, which is weird because hes ok at guitar, and great at singing and piano

  • Best punk band in the world, got swept over by the Pistols but these were and still are the fellas

  • @land4x4ever Sex Pistols I think were better, but they only released one album.

  • super nr

  • Comment removed

  • this priceless, Strummer playing the bass and Paul playing the guitar. Simply Awesome

  • where's the bass at?! I see strummer playing but I hear nothing

  • @AOCRkid I agree! too bad, such a great bass line...

  • @AOCRkid I can hear it plainly ...

  • @clapton1958 you're bullshit

  • When he's close Paul looks more cute then videos

  • @kishanna09 i think you mean "than", not then

  • @93seanwalker yes "than". Met Paul in London, at his home, in 1983. Very cute.

  • @kishanna09 wtf u met Paul? o_O

  • @RockinBlues4

    u really believe that?^^ she/he never met him >_>

  • @RockinBlues4 saw Paul when I was in London for a university job and talkin' about Joe disappear. He was kind with us (me and a friend) e looked very georgous. It was a great heartbeat :-)

  • @kishanna09 you've been to Pauls' pad?? you're a cleaner? a builder? a insurance broker??

  • @MsGORGONS nooo... :-) I'm simply a fan, an old fan! It happened many years ago, 1983, during my school work in London

  • oh paul !!!! (y)

  • my favourite song by them!!

  • Que buenos! que barbaros! The Clash! mira como Joe toca el bajo y como Paul pretende :D no en serio amo a Clash.

  • 2:23 hear,this is the begginin´

  • Scary... lol...

  • what chords is paul playin

  • F#m bm g

  • :):):)!

  • @Parses6 Holy shit, if you don't have anything nice to say, then keep your mouth shut. You sound like a pathetic, whiny, jealous loser.

And his teeth weren't rotten, he lost his front tooth in a fight when he was really young.

  • i bet you wont say that to his face

  • Probably not as he lives in some mansion or estate or Richmond Hill somewhere where I don't hang out. Some Socialist hero! He just another rich wanker who looks down on his former pals the Sandinista Scum. HYPOCRITE! SELL OUT!

Ah I would buy him a beer and have a laugh at his expense. Cheers mate

  • watever mate your day will come

  • I AGREE with you ShOtieMAC, that punk wouldn't "say that" to his face...

  • Whats being from england got to do with it?

Hes a hot englishman no matter what his teeth are like.

  • strummer en el bass! jajaj weeenaa...grandes los clash ENOORMES..Q.e.p.d (strummer)..

  • Nice job as always Paul. He ain't no Topper in the back tho...

  • Comment removed

  • I knew they featured different singers - didn't know they switch bass and guitar too

  • Awsome punkband ever seen! Great!!!

  • best song of clash....

  • Paul is HOT!

  • @mackiex I agree. Paul is gorgeous. My favorite member.

  • theyr a legendary band.what are you.who are you to say this is awful

  • ....and give Howard credit this was his first gig with the band. He's just a little too sharp at this point... Topper was loose and free flowing, Howard was tight at first but would go on to adapt a cool, peculiar reggae flow heard on some of their later concerts with him.

  • That's Pete Howard who just replaced the original drummer Terry Chimes.

  • Who was the drummer that night? I know Topper had already been fired.

  • Turn the bass up!

  • Its funny how Paul Simonon could not play his bass and sing at the same time, but he can strum rhythm on Joe's Telecaster and sing. Kick ass song!

  • sweet, Simo created drum n bass in 1983 :)

  • the issue i've always had with this song live, in the studio it was played as a true regai song with each member only doing small parts. live it's played as a rock n roll song. clearly a difference in sound. i can't discribe or spell how regai is played, but the best documentry on it is VH1s doc on Bob Marley's To Catch a Fire

  • the special about reggae is (thats how you spell it) are the guitar strokes on 2 and 4, same as the base drum is on, and a base line to hold this together. basicly

  • It's all about the bass line - in reggae it makes the whole rhythm and is on the front with the guitar just accompanying it.

  • yeah like with funk music

  • Hey, that's what made the Clash such a great live band, they would usually deviate from the album versions and turn them into something else live. It would be pretty redundant for them or any band to play songs note for note like the albums right?

  • there are so many good different versions of this song live......I like this one much but i agree that the bass doesn´t sounds so much.....i think pauls teeth are charming.... XD

  • cheers ;D

  • Comment removed

  • the thing is.....i think soemone unplugged the bass because yeah joe is playing it but i can't really hear any of it? Can anyone?

  • yes

  • you can definantly hear the bass, its the main part of the song.

i love the bass line to this song, it was the first song i learnt to play :D

  • paul and joe switched guitars, thats pretty cool

  • he was still a better person than you can ever hope to be, so

    unlucky.

  • Paul is the beast

  • joe is playing single notes!^^

  • it makes me laugh that paul always has a cigarette behind his ear. lol. i love him to death

  • paul is just too damn cool for one dude...i best this dude got tons of girls...

i love listening to all the live versions of this song...they all sound just a little different...simply awesome!

  • no, lol

  • topper never left the band with any bad feeling. he told them at the time that he was sick of them always covering for him. shame cos he was the most tallented out the 4 of them . there aint an instrument he cant play. his input to the bands music cant be overstated enough. from bass. piano, guitar. and loads of other input in the studio. he was far from just a good drummer. he was allso the most unasuming member of the clash. but his drug problems caused him hell. .joe especially covered for him

  • That´s right, there is no Terry Chimes in this Clash line up. Terry had already left the band and was replaced by Pete Howard for this festival though he continued to play with them and recorded Cut the crap...

    So cut the crap! LOL!

  • Noobs! Know your Clash. My god.

  • Joe is my hero! He is such a good drummer!!!

  • Joe plays gitter my litt;e pea pot lol

  • He is clearly playing the drums! Look at this guy he don't know jack! ahahahahahah

  • That is Terry chimes. The origional drummer. He re-joined after they kicked topper out because of his herion addiction.

I didm't know Joe had a twin lol

  • Joe is playing the bass on this top cat!

  • You guys are so Ignorant who the hell is Terry? There is not Terry in the Clash! LOL

  • Listen bucko! If you don't believe me just type in his name on the google search engine and find out what you never knew! lol

    Over and out....

  • ahahaahahaha yall are so ignorant aahahahahaha I am laughing irl!

  • You win. Now go listen to your abba records squeebe! lol

  • actually joe is on bass mate

  • you know this guy's just fuckin with us right?

  • they feel the music they move really great with the music... its great

  • Ya'll dont know nothin bout no clash

  • I love the way he moves. I can watch him for hours. Love watching them. So much passion. Miss Joe.

  • Paul always sound French when he sings this song. Oh well, it's still a killer performance.

  • Howard is an excellent drummer... however topper is one of the best drummers ever. Clash mk 2 was a mistake..there is only one clash...the first album!!

  • drumb and bass!

  • chemtrails over brixton 2008. rip joe.

  • the great Paul Simonon!!

  • another thing: i'm very uneasy about the way they've written clash mk2 out of history. it's just revisionism. cmk2 was going for 2 years and it was basically crap--which is why it's brushed under the carpet--but joe and paul did it and they thought they could do it without mick (wrong!)and so on and i'm just uncomfortable that we have to kind of go along with it like that chapter was never written.

  • what sort of guitar is mick playing!? it looks like a contemporary one like an ibanez or an aria or something. not very righteous is it!? i never knew he did that at the end. that probably contributed to his sacking..!(not that the band was ever as good without him of course!)

    king

  • ...it is a hamer maybe?

  • It does look weird. I think it's a Hamer Special or Studio, back when Hamer made only great guitars. Especially on the west coast USA they are known as very cheap guitars, but they used to be very high end. I guess based only on the headstock shape. There's not enough light in this one to see clearly...

  • Do you have a DVD of the full set?

  • Man, that makes it seem like it was about the money. It wasn´t.

If it had been, Paul would have been a very rich man indeed. He ain´t.

  • well of course it wasnt..he has money now hes a painter not much of a bass player anymore he plays with the good the bad and the queen somtimes

  • Yeah he´s got some money, but he´s far from really rich or anything.

And he never stopped doing it for the fans. That´s why he refused to play at the HoF introduction, the tickets would be like 1800£ and would only be sold to directors and producers and shit, not real fans.

I don´t think Paul ever really got back to music after 84, it was only with Mick and Joe around that he really let lose and showed his amazing talent. Too bad, he was a great musician.

  • terry chimes sucks

  • its not terry chimes!! jesus how come everyone thinks it him this guy is the drummer for the clash's last album terry got thrown out few months before this concert

  • w/e this drummer still sucks topper headon is the best

  • topper was good before his little drug problem as joe said "your band is only as good as your drummer"

  • Pete Howard is actually very good. If you have the last single from The Clash. Listen to the drumming on Sex Mad Roar or Do It now. He pushes the band alot. I have heard some concert clips from 1984-1985, and he is good. But Topper had a more personality in the band than him of course.

  • Howard was good on the straight ahead rock of "Cut the Crap" era material, but hearing him trying to adapt the complexity and grooves of Topper is painful. He looks and sounds lost at this show.

  • didnt know simmon switched off guitar and bass

  • Hey Supermatrix3...

Guitar is much more conducive to singing than bass.
