This is still my favorite rendition of all renditions here on youtube. Linzi & Carmen both rock! I don't think one out-sings or is better than the other... they both have different styles and techniques (with good points, as well as things that they can both improve upon), and ended up working well together. This is such an awesome song!
I believe Carmen's version of Svetlana here is maybe the best! She sings a lot better than Barbara Dickson. I am not a big fan of her, but I love the way she sings here: great voice.
I keep coming back to this... wish I was there at the live performance cuz it certainly sounds fantastic just in recording. My fave rendition... awesome job, Linzi & Carmen.
Linzi is incredibly talented and has been a leading lady in the West End for 20-odd years. A consummate professional and most importantly, ever-approachable. Ms Hateley always has time to chat at the stage door, and from personal experience she is a tremendously generous person - supporting many of my charity auctions in the past. Linzi is exactly what we would like and want our true stars to be . . . Fantastic at their job, gracious, self-effacing and 'human' in their well-deserved stardom.
omg!!!!! this is the best version I have ever heard! I'm pinoy, I love lea salonga, but this version rocks! This is even better than elaine paige's and barbara dickson's, or kerry ellis' and idina menzel's, or Julia Murney's and Sutton Foster's versions. THIS IS HOW IT'S DONE!!!
I saw Chess in London in 1986, with the original cast (Siobhan McCarthy, Elaine Paige, Murray Head, and the brilliant Tommy Korberg). I wonder if this underrated musical will ever return to the West End?
It's never been set down that Svetlana was a particular age, only that Florence was mid 30's. It was inspired idea to have Svetlana as the young child bride in the 2003 New York concert.
LINZI is AMAZING. First saw her in Joseph with Jason Donovan (back in the day). Her version of Meadowlark (sung live on Bruce Forsyth Show around the same time as Joseph was cool) Go Linzi!
It only flopped because it was an awful version. The original London version was a LOT better and was successful. Besides, Linzi wasn't in the broadway version. Infact, apart from Carrie she hasn't been in anything that has flopped really.
I have just sat mesmerised having watched that wee vid!!!! I have known that song since the original, 20 + years ago....and have seen both the girls in shows in London and on tour, and i just have to say that was wonderful..full marks to u both!!!
As I see all versions have something about them, but by far the best one is the Swedish one with Helen Sjöholm and Josefin Nilsson... I actually think it's posted on Youtube, it's called "Jag vet vad han vill"

Chess. It was a touring company. (Actually, Oslo was the only stop, but it was supposed to go to the Netherlands as well.)

Didn't Chess Flop on Broadway? Linzi Hateley has the worst luck in musical Theater!

Saw Linzi Hately in 'Mama Mia' at Prince of Wales, Picadilly. She was head and shoulder above the rest of the cast. Pure class.
