Britches actually lived out his life at Primarily Primates Sanctuary in San Antonio TX... not in "a sanctuary in Mexico." Not a lot of people know that - I don't know why but due credit should be given to the right sanctuary.

That same little macaque is adopting a little macaque that was injured in a fight with a male when he was 2 days old. I found 27 dead ones that day and the last one, all chewed up. Shows a new leader has taken over. He is missing an arm and eye, but that female that now lives on my desk, is letting him hold her and is showing signs of mothering him. While I still feed him with a bottle, she is going to teach him to be a monkey. Something I can't.

"Experiments" like these have no real value in the world. I had a vervet with a broken back from the breeding cages. I wanted to see if we could heal him, since we were studying spinal injuries. I was told I had to "Put him down". Since the break wasn't controlled, the result would be faulty. Still doesn't make sense, does it? I lost and he was killed. I now have a sweet little macaque that had a spine break and is walking and moving about an hour a day. She is healing very well.

The reason his eyes were sewn shut is because the researchers felt that working with blind people was too troublesome. The American Council of the Blind was just as horrified by this as everyone else.

The lab in CA that did this deserved to get trashed, and so does every one just like it.

@SexyBarker8: I can inform you that Britches passed away a few years ago after two decades spent at the sanctuary he was sent to. Thankfully he had a safe and loving place to live out his life but there are so many primates who are not as lucky as Britches was and are suffering right now all over the world. To answer your other question, stump tailed macaques can live up to 30 years.

Britches rescue all those years ago helped shape me into a kind compassionate caring human, watching the footage of him in that prison & seeing him being rescued was both traumatic & euphoric. It is possible to be kind & respectful to both humans & animals.

To harm a baby in this way is truly wicked, I am glad he went on to live a full & happy life.

Animal research hinders progress & causes suffering on mass to animals & humans alike. Please look into it if you are in any doubt.

And, did you not know that your pills are not actually safe? The 3rd biggest killer of humans in the western world (after heart disease and cancer which are caused by animal proteins) is prescribed drugs. Animal studies provide no safety to human health, they are done for financial and legal reasons, not scientific ones.

Alot of people presume that animal experimentation is specifically to test drugs that will 'save' human lives. However experiments are mainly done on day to day products eg shampoos, moisturisers, makeup, perfume, laundry detergent, washing up liquid etc. Experiments on animals for the pharmaceutical industry are unreliable and invariably FAIL.

Thankfully he had a safe and loving place to live out his life but there are so many primates who are not as lucky as Britches was and are suffering right now all over the world. The story of what happened to Britches in that laboratory represents so much of what is wrong with vivisection and it must never be forgotten.
