my expeperiences and conclusions are something differnt. finally, i decided to italian proportions (theorbo instrument, with double reentrant tuning, not a "french solo theorbo").
single strings, playing without nails (much better sound!!), ultralight construction (Burkholtzer body). this instrument should be played with some control in chamber music, because it is very powerful.
the proportions would also allow an archlute or d-minor tuning ;-))) . regards S.
