It's to help the puppy learn that potty is outside, and when it has to go, close to the door is a step closer to outside. When our mini doxie was a puppy, she had all of 2 accidents, and then just ran to the door when she had to go, we never really potty trained her. Now 6 years later, she'll stare at you and bark until you take her. haha!
