Somos seres vivos!!!
I don`t know why - she seems to me so full of life, so burning inside... Almost all the other great divas seem somehow LESS ALIVE... (And - that fierce intensity is somehow - incredibly! - combined with such impeccable refined musicianship! How could it be?) Really, I can think ONLY about the great Callas at her side...
Baltsa is one of the few sopranos who can successfully traverse a variety of roles. I actually enjoy the fact that she has the radiant high notes and the power in the lower register - especially on lines like "ma per buttarmi in Arno! (I'm going to throw myself in the Arno!). Most sopranos don't have the power in this part of their voices to really deliver this line as dramatically and forcefully as the text would suggest.
Agnes Baltsa is much better in her mezzo soprano roles. Her darker and richer lower register really sticks out here, and makes her seem less like a poor young girl in love, which is what we should be hearing here. Baltsa is an AMAZING singer... just should not be singing this aria.
@Jaydoggy531 You don't know what you are talking about!!! She did sing this very well. No other soprano I've ever heard that sounds like a poor you girl than she does here.
what the heck is her hurry? Sounds like she has a fire in her brithches. And not in a good way, either. But, in contrast, her vibrato slows down to a crawl. Sorry.....I still like Virginia Zeani's version the best.
A very interesting version. Have not thought that this aria could be sung by a Mezzo with such a moving effect. Baltsa's performance is always with fire!
Very good execution with passion and a most wonderous voice...quite enjoyable

She should stick to what she does best which is mezzo stuff. She's over-brightening and it's making her sharp and flat in some places.
I will admit that she sings it with passion, but not with her real voice

Wow, she never grimaces so much when she sings other arias. Usually she makes it look easy.
Sounds good anyway.
