@petsmart1000 it has begun as the music genre in early 80s, 90s the second wave. Then the bands like Brand New, Jimmy Eat World, Heroin, Gray Matter, A Day In Black And White etc etc... Then in the new century people continued listening these bands and started being emotionally, just like bands were. And dressed black and started having the hair u call "emo". And pretty much all (sub) cultures came from music. Yeah, so thats what you can call start. And those kids that cut themselves are posers.

Okay everyone saying all emo's cut? Just an FYI. Emo doesn't stand for emotional. It actually stands for emotive Hardcore. A type of music consisting bands that express emotion that generated in the 60's. Not screamo music. Emo is fashion, a way of dressing and expressing yourself through clothes and make up. Being emo is about being YOU. Not about cutting or committing suicide. You don't necessarily have to always be depressed either, it's about being yourself and not being afraid to stand out.

Just to clear something up, people cut for different reasons. Me for example, when I get overly emotional or stressed out, I can't think and when I cut, it forces me to concentrate on one thing long enough to slow all my other thoughts down. Some cut to give reason to their tears, others find the pain a pleasurable momentary release from reality. True, some cut for attention, but most don't. Most have genuine problems and resort to cutting as their method of coping.

Okay everyone saying all emo's cut? Just an FYI. Emo doesn't stand for emotional. It actually stands for emotive Hardcore. A type of music consisting bands that express emotion that generated in the 60's. Not screamo music. Emo is fashion, a way of dressing and expressing yourself through clothes and make up. Being emo is about being YOU. Not about cutting or committing suicide. You don't necessarily have to always be depressed either, it's about being yourself and not being afraid to stand out.

Just to clear something up, people cut for different reasons. Me for example, when I get overly emotional or stressed out, I can't think and when I cut, it forces me to concentrate on one thing long enough to slow all my other thoughts down. Some cut to give reason to their tears, others find the pain a pleasurable momentary release from reality. True, some cut for attention, but most don't. Most have genuine problems and resort to cutting as their method of coping.
