No. I don't want to hear that they're a cult band. In a perfect world Helmet would be having the HBO specials and we never would have heard of Justin Timberlake.
The buddha has written one of the smartest comments on youtube. Hard to believe such an idiot band like Kiss influenced this thinking mans heavy band.
i mean, going on about how uncool 14 year olds are that choose their music taste by the looks of the performer ... fine, valid point maybe. but one that i would expect from a 19-26 year old punk rocker, not some accomplished 50 year (?) old musician jazz/rock. i mean really, does he not have other problems?
i have been a fan of helmet's music for a long time, he was my guitar hero for ever. but i got to say that his cockiness is hard to bear sometimes. every single interview i see, he goes on about bashing the music scene ... "there are not that many geniuses out there". i cannot help it, but he just sounds frustrated. plus, while i like the later albums, they are not that original or show much genius. some of the melodies i actually find too embarassing to listen to.
There later stuff is good but not as amazing as their old stuff.
However, I do and I don't agree with him about the geniuses in the music industry. I think there are talented musicians its just the industry not giving them a chance. I understand his frustration with the music industry, but yeah page can be both humble and very arrogant when he wants.
I agree with Page about the music industry and how there's so much terrible music being produced these days. It's upsetting to see some of these young kids out there, who actually think that some of the rock bands they listen to are great. Which, in return, really aren't that great at all.
Helmet kicks ass. Their veteran sound is straight forward with no preservatives and a hint of trueness. Anyone who thinks otherwise should go back to school.
watching this interview has made me feel very fortunate to know him, the band, and the pleasure of listening to actual GOOD music out there from the past to now...well, some good music in the now.
and he's right, there's too many shitty ass rock music of today. i'm glad i'm going back listening to good old rock music of the 90's, 80's, and 70's.
you think they might have thought to move that big tripod thingy right in the middle of the screen?

He looks like my next door neighbor, and if he talked this much on my lawn I would have told him to shut up already.

Great interview! Unfortunately I think Page is right about the dilution of popular music today...
