I know you guys dont use tube power amps live but after playing through a vht 2/50/2 and this power amp did you prefer the el34s or 6l6s? or rather what were the differences? i loved the sound of my 6505 so having the 6505 amp sim through a vht would i miss getting tnat 6l6 influence?
Not sure if I'll get a reply on this, but where did Jake acquire his S7? I want one so bad but all I can find now a days are the straight up black ones.
hey misha.....what's your approach to the chord work you do on your compositions?? do you use that allan holdsworth approach of figuring out the keys and then playing groups of notes off the scales to 'define' the keys (as opposed to all that standard "ii-V-I" jazz stuff)??
@EMGXX84 for a lightweight mono poweramp this sounds INCREDIBLE! if you need a stereo poweramp and dont mind something that weighs more than twice as much, id recommend the vht 2/50/2
@Periphery ok tanks, i read your last interview about the all rigs you use in the band and in a moment misha talk about mackie hd1531... (i read lot of poor review about that(breaktable) but, tosin abasi use them so ;) and i would like to know why you don't envisage the atomic fr 50watt WEDGE?... that was not enought powerfull for the band?.. and in the pratice session....if you conbine the FR with a guitar cab for more power that was not enough or is a question of taste?
Do you find the CL/LF combo in that RGA dark at all? I believe those pickups were designed for alder/basswood. I had a DSonic in my SV and it was muddy as all hell.
@Periphery Really? But I've seen videos of you guys playing live with amp rigs, and the guitarworld or guitarplayer (can't remember which) video with Jake, Misha, and Alex have them talking about their full amp setups.. :///
People are so fucking retarded. There should be no reason someone should push the dislike button on a video on a dude just testing out an amp. People just like to be fucking stupid. GOD I FUCKING HATE PEOPLE!!!!!!! 5 PEOPLE ARE FUCKING BORED THAT THEY DISLIKE A AMP TESTING VIDEO, GOOD GOD!
@Guitarmazdur Learn to read descriptions... "Jake is also using his Ibanez S7420FM with a Dimarzio X2N7 in the bridge and that is tuned BbDbAbDbGbBbEb and is strung up with 10-64 gauge SIT strings." Its not like half step down, you drop the 6th string lol
hey guys. how do you like this RGA420Z? im really considering buying it because its a sweet guitar and i like the way it looks. but ive had an RG3550MZ prestige before and for some reason the neck was really flimsy and went out of tune if i jumped or move too aggressively during shows. the neck also flexed a LOT. so i was just wondering how well it holds its tuning and how stable the neck is? it would be sweet if you guys could help me out with some feedback. amazing band by the way. :)
Are x2n's in both guitars? I've been roaming through ss.org seeing what others are using for that djenty style tone but everyone has different opinions lol
Wow. The melody thing at 4:12 is awesome! I'm not really familiar with Periphery, is that bit from a song on the album or something on the way? Or was it just a noodle?
hey misha i was wondering if you are still with bare knuckle pickups or did you switch to dimarzio? if so can you tell me a good 7 string pickup for either company
I'm probably going to get shit for this but i think the riff Misha plays from Jetpacks sounds like ass with that setup. Maybe i'm just used to it being overproduced? Idk but it's an awesome song!
is there any way you could message me your settings for the axe fx? im failing miserably at getting the clarity of notes, and this bothers me. I hope you get back to me, U guys are the bees knees, and the cats pajamas.
Heya, hope this hasn't been asked before but how powerful would you say that atomic block is? I would be wanting to use it for small to medium sized venues, I mean obviously I would go out to the PA from the axe-fx to, but you know what I mean (hopefully ;) ) Cheers.
i think wattage is more a matter of personal preference than volume issues. higher wattage yields more clean headroom so it won't break up. this may or may not be desirable depending on what tone you're going for. conversely lower wattage means the power section will be saturated at an earlier point.
Hey Misha and Jake, I know you guys use Axe-Fx for live gigs, but I was wondering what poweramp you use. I read that Misha liked the MB-50, but wanted to have a rackmount poweramp.
@TWLB17 The Atomic MB-50 is what send the electric signal to the speakers in the cab. Without it, you'd have to plug the Axe-Fx directly into a PA. The Axe-Fx is like a distortion pedal: you need the amp to create the sound, but the Axe-Fx make it sound awesome.
@TWLB17 Every Head that you see in live rigs have a pre amp and a power amp. The preamp generates the noise (in this case its the Axe-fx) and the power amp pushes this signal to the speakers or cabs. In this case, without the monoblock, the axe fx cannot be heard through cab speakers and then it has to be connected directly to the PA.
Im thinking of buying an Axe-fx due to its versatility in tone and usage. If only I had the cash. :(

@deathcore1239 Its older for sure not entirely sure how many years, but the s7420 you are talking about was only reintroduced rather recently, there was a pretty large period of time when they werent made.
@deathcore1239 I'd say around 2000...the better guitar were made around then. Not dissing the new stuff, it's great too but I prefer my Japanese made Ibanez's which are older.
@morganchavis oh trust me, i know. i have a 1999/2000 rg570/rg570dx (its a hybrid) with an original edge, super wizard, etc. sounds a million times better than my rg1527 but that might have to do with with the pickups. the 570 has an x2n in the bridge and an evo2 in the neck, the 1527 is stock
@deathcore1239 My bandwidth is shot so I'd have to wait to see what guitar you're referring to, and I'm not a periphery fan so I'm not familiar with Jake's gear but it could be a 540S7.
The S7420 in this video looks like the one that was introduced in 2000. It wasn't until 2010 that the new 24-fret, ZR bridge model was introduced. You're right, that is a Lo TRS-7 trem. I have a very similar model, but it was introduced in 1991/1992 (the 540S7). I believe, this model was the first Ibanez 7 that wasn't a Universe. I hope that helps. Cheers, and keep on rockin'!
Could you please tell me your Periphery album was recording by Axe-fx or ENGL ?? the guitar sound was the greatest sound i have ever heard...i buy tyour CD at Hong Kong HMV XDD
Gotta say, love the Bulb/Periphery tone, love the melody/harmonies, but I hate your hand technique Misha, and I'm not being a jerk, everyone develops their own technique/style, case in point Marty Friendman's right hand, but I look at your left hand and just feel carpal tunnel incarnate, heehee. Wattage and perceived volume have a logarithmic relationship so 50w isn't that much reduced from 100w.

@VegaNGT That makes sense. thanks man!
TWLB17 1 year ago
@TWLB17 Every Head that you see in live rigs have a pre amp and a power amp. The preamp generates the noise (in this case its the Axe-fx) and the power amp pushes this signal to the speakers or cabs. In this case, without the monoblock, the axe fx cannot be heard through cab speakers and then it has to be connected directly to the PA.
Im thinking of buying an Axe-fx due to its versatility in tone and usage. If only I had the cash. :(

Keep up the awesome djents guys.
