  • That is strange that the rice cooker plays Twinkle Twinkle Little Star.

  • How to cook perfect any rice in a regular pot without having it stick to the bottom of the pan. Do this videos strategy first in the pan you're going to use to cook.Wash your hands fill the pan with clean water about 1inch over the rice. put on stove high heat and right when it begins to boil turn heat to low do not lift lid no matter what let the water come misting out of the sides of the lid if you were not quick enough to turn heat to low. Set the timer for 20 minutes. Voila! perfect rice.

  • I wash rice to polish it.

  • what sort of rice cooker are you using?

  • @roanokejoe It's my Zojirushi NP-GD05 (sold in Japan). It's very similar to the NP-GBC05 in the U.S. and Canada.

  • thabk you so much, guy! my rice always got realy muddy =_= (except for ONE time when i stood in the kitchen washin the rice for about one hour!! X_X ) next time i'll try this method :3

  • Thanks so much. I was using a mesh strainer and it never really did the job well. Never thought to use the rice maker bowl.

  • Surely there are better ways to wash rice without wasting all that water.

I'm from Brazil and rice is also one of our primary foods (except we salt and season it), but we don't really waste litres of water to wash (although mileages may vary, most people here don't wash it at all).

People who normally wash rice here say it's so that the rice won't get all sticky and lump together. Since Japanese rice is meant to be sticky and to lump together, I'm not sure of anything anymore.

  • @YukiSatoshisan - Japanese rice would be much more sticky if it wasn't washed thoroughly. The rice I am preparing in the video is Niigata Koshi Hikari (a type of short grain Japanese white rice) which still sticks together nicely when rinsed like this.

  • @YukiSatoshisan i think people wash it because of dust and rats or other critters being where they harvest the rice

  • @YukiSatoshisan but im sure it cant be bad really my mom drank rice water as a baby
