A most beautiful and courageous woman. It's never easy battling mental illness especially back then in the dark ages of mental health so called treatments. What a remarkable person she must of been to overcome so damn much. Almost 21 yrs since she died..RIP Angel

@shellybellysf Yes Gene was so much so especially given the time and career Gene had have you read Gene Autobiography Gene was very frank and honest and it 's worth a read.This month is the anniversary of both Genes' Birthday and Death Gene was born on the 19th and died of Emphysema on the 6th. I'm hope to see some new tribute to Gene this month Sadly I cannot get anything uploaded in time for the 6th myself but later on hopefully I will. Gene was both beautiful and talented but above all Gene had great courage, in the face of dark fear, despair and isolation, Gene triumphed and finally found happiness.

Have read her book by Michelle Vogel and Self-Portrait by her! Part of her life was tragic,with the birth of her daughter Daria who was born mentally impaired and it seems bacause of how loving and caring she was it attributed to her later mental illness, it was fantastic though that she recovered from this! She was courageous!! And even though she lived around the time my grand parents were children, she is my favourite actress!

I have read both books also, and now and again I still do,'' Self Portrait'' was very honest and open,Michelle Vogels book though interesting was for the most part a repition, it must have been so painful for both Gene and Daria on those occasion, when Gene visited and Daria would sniff Genes neck, I guess Daria must have recognised Gene.The bond between mother and child is difficult for us to understand I guess, something we can only see through a glass darkly.

I WAS TRAWLING THE INTERNET ONE NIGHT FOR ANYTHING I COULD FIND ON GENE AND FOUND IT ON A SITE THAT SELLS HOLLYWOOD PORTRAITS FRAMED ETC.i WAS ACTUALLY TRYING TO INFO ON DARIA GENE DAUGHTER WAS SHE STILL ALIVE OR WHAT HAPPENNED TO HER IN THE END..
