Well in my Arctic ranger survival training, the officers told us that ravines like this is a no go! Very dangerus to even go there and a big chance of getting sucked under the ice because the current can be very strong in streams like that... But i guess he knew that and just wanted to make an example i hope. :P

not sure what's hollywood about having to do extreme things to survive. Look at it this way, Les Stroud is almost always on some plains or flatlands, Bear almost always makes his way through areas that are considerably above sea level. If you find yourself in these places, you might be faced with land/rock/mountainous obstacles that require getting through. If you're dumb enough to think your limits are the same as Bear's and go shimmying up a cliff, maybe the world is better off w/o you.

I think both shows have their merit.
