Was in the French Quarter this past September (2011), staying not 3 blocks from this location - how I managed to miss these folks during my stay is beyond me. This is bringing tears to my eyes, it's so beautiful.
I'll be returning at the end of September, 2012, bringing my snare and a pair of brushes in hopes of sitting in for a few with them. They play just like I do - wearing everything on their sleeves backed with a washtub full of feeling & soul.
@Abriggs500 They learn the melody and sometimes the chords. With a general idea of what the form is like 2 heads in and 2 out then they just go from there.
I only discovered Loose Marbles about 3 months ago. Why did it take so long??? They would be a smash hit at the Christchurch, New Zealand, International Buskers Festival in Feb. Cheers.
There's Red again, and this times shes got a gentleman friend. What is that dance they are doing?? Its not "swing dancing" but it fits the music perfectly!
The loose Marbles get my vote for authenticity. Do they just play happy music out on the street all day?? What a life :)
Well, it IS a type of "swing dancing." They are doing the Charleston. The dancers switch between solo and collegiate (facing each other) style . I've never seen the Loose Marbles live, but they have a tremendous reputation among the dance community
@MrPisster Like LindyToez said, it's charelston which is a type of swing dancing. They're mostly doing 20's charelston (like the flappers from the roaring 20's), and a lot of really nifty free stlye.
Great Jam spolit by a bad vocal, get a proper singer.

@MrPisster in case you were wondering, Red's name is Amy, and her friend is Chance. Fabulous dancers.

OK, so whats the dance Chance is doing at the beginning where he's crossing his feet up?

Thanks! Kiowa makes the song threatening and obscene as it was intended to be!
