I saw the same show the next night in St. Louis, it was great!
I remember June Christy had a cold and struggled a little bit through the night.
Kentons Trombone section was the best, The Bass bone was always sounding huge. The show was the best show of my life as a 19 years old trumpet player.
This album says it all....best of big band dissonance, fantastic gal singer and four guys at their best. Saw them at Hampton Beach in NH and will never forget that experience.
RugbyFootballer, it's off the album you mentioned, recorded at Purdue University in 1959 as wbg2ljt noted. June Christy didn't want to sing that night because of a cold (if I remember the illness right), but Kenton convinced her to do it. Her voice on this concert recording has a slight huskiness because of the cold which distinguishes it from her other recordings. I love the sound.
A fantastic combination of my favorite BIG BAND, STAN KENTON, my favorite vocal group-THE FOUR FRESHMEN and the outstanding JUNE CHRISTY. WOW WOW WOW in a clear complete playing video??
1:30-- the most famous cough in recording history. Still, my favorite Kenton/Christy tune.

Love those trombones. You can cut those cords out of the air and smear them on bread. Delicious!
