  • 1:30-- the most famous cough in recording history. Still, my favorite Kenton/Christy tune.

  • When I as a kid I used to play the heck out of this record. Just beautiful.

  • I saw the same show the next night in St. Louis, it was great!

I remember June Christy had a cold and struggled a little bit through the night.

Kentons Trombone section was the best, The Bass bone was always sounding huge. The show was the best show of my life as a 19 years old trumpet player.

  • I saw the same show the next night in St. Louis, it was great!

  • This album says it all....best of big band dissonance, fantastic gal singer and four guys at their best. Saw them at Hampton Beach in NH and will never forget that experience.

  • That's so interesting, thanks so much for the comments,i wasn't aware of any of that stuff although it's one of my favourite recordings

  • RugbyFootballer, it's off the album you mentioned, recorded at Purdue University in 1959 as wbg2ljt noted. June Christy didn't want to sing that night because of a cold (if I remember the illness right), but Kenton convinced her to do it. Her voice on this concert recording has a slight huskiness because of the cold which distinguishes it from her other recordings. I love the sound.

  • I thought this was off the Road Show Album? STAN KENTON JUNE CHRISTY FOUR FRESHMEN CAPITAL RECORDS

  • This was from the concert recorded at Purdue University in 1959

  • Love those trombones. You can cut those cords out of the air and smear them on bread. Delicious!
