If you look at Freelance Whale's website, Weathervanes is about a man who takes a fancy to a ghost who haunts his childhood home. I'm pretty sure he's talking to the ghost in this song, as with many.

Its interesting they named this song the generator ^ second floor as that puts it in direct comparison with the other song although they seem somewhat unrelated besides that one is the beginning of a day/machine and this one is the end of a life. i wonder if he means second floor as a euphemism for heaven? and theyre just gonna start it again up there
