My Choir has to do this song for next years county wide chorus festival! And I won't take any bull crap excuses like "Its in Japanese" because we sang in German and Latin and Spanish! Not to menchion nobody would ever guess it was from pokemon. It's the on beautiful and foreign song ( well besides totoro) that I would'nt mind doing for choir.
Reminds me of when Jessie released Dustox, ( Well Duh! It was in the episode!) I wish they would have pokemon episodes and movies in Japanese in English Subtitles online or a Dvd set of the original series uncut an unedited ( well other than the porygon part) that way we can hear these beautiful songs.
I have been looking for this song for years now! I have heard this song the first time about 12 years ago, when I was 5 years old, in an adverb for the Japanese movie, but incredibly all those years the song stuck in my mind. Not the whole song actually, but exactly and only that one melody from 2:50 to 3:00, accompanied by a picture of Ash. It was so hard to find this...
This is from the togepi and houndoom episode - seeing raikou while traveling together. I was eagerly waiting for this episode to air cuz of this song! But to my disappointment it was taken out! .... \: Glad I watched the japanese part of this episode first ^^
@lalopikachu i know how ya feel Dx i was crying for too long also, I never liked Gliscor but now i love him, in the english version the frase said "One experiences Hellos, as well as goodbyes"
Very Sad, I bet if 4kids didn't dub the Movie & Viz or Funamation dubbed the movie instead, this song would make the english audience cry. You make me sick 4kids -.-
Eh, there was ONE positive about the 4kids dub of the film. Despite the obnoxious pop songs, gay errors and so forth, the new score they composed for the film was amazing and really well done and was done in a "western animated movie" style where the music goes in sync with the visuals on screen. Tears of Life specifically was a nice track.
Everything else regarding the film's dub was shit though.
I honestly never watched the Japanese version (I need to look it up sometime), but after looking it up I learned that they turned Mewtwo into a complete monster, which pissed me off. They even took out where Mewtwo was friends with Ambertwo (To be put as special content later on)
The new score WAS amazing. I watched one specific scene in the original version, where Mewtwo and Mew are fighting each other and Ash tries to stop them, and it just didn't sound right without Tears of Life playing.
Well they didn't really make Mewtwo a monster, he was always a bad guy, he just had different reasons. The Japanese version made him hate on life being a clone and not one of God's creatures while the Dub had him hate on being a clone just to be a tool(which I like better because he was victimized by Rocket more).
Oop, sorry, what I meant with Team Rocket's inclusion in the film being better(since the Japanese version obviously has that too), is that the truth about him really being a tool came to an end there. The Japanese version really becomes inconclusive because Mewtwo's "Clones shouldn't exist?" questioning doesn't get an end till that sequel special where Rocket plays a part in being an antagonist to controlling his existence unlike the dub where they saved that questioning FOR the sequel.
Oh, my bad. I was kinda relying on memory for what I was commenting on. D:
His reason for him hating the Rockets in the dub actually made more sense, since he WAS being used simply to catch Pokemon and kick trainer ass all over the place, though in a way different way than when trainers do that. He also hated that he wasn't an equal with Giovanni in the dub.
It just felt right. Saving Mewtwo's questioning his existence for just the special was much better. In Japan, it must have been annoying since there's no conclusive reason for him to stop feeling like he's an outcast as we as feeling like someone who feels the world is against him WHEN NO ONE EVER DID SO POST-TEAM ROCKET'S SCENE. It was just stupid so I thank the dub for saving all that crap for WHEN that confrontation of his right to live comes in the special.
In terms of both music and story-telling, the first Pokemon movie is a great experience. Instead of a stupid little revenge story the dub turned it into, it's a well told tale of questioning self-worth, a "villain" (can we even call him that?), who's genuinely sympathetic, yet has proved himself as a worthy antagonist. You know, a CHARACTER? (something every Pokemon movie since has failed to provide)
It's also well VERY scored, silent when necessary, and emotional too.
@RoryMcHugo Nah, that's just pretentious drivel all the fans spout. Both versions of Mewtwo weren't particularly deep or interesting. One was a cliche tragic villain with the wrong mindset trying to prove himself worthy of living WHEN NO ONE'S PREVENTING HIM TO DO SO while the other version's basically the same thing with world domination added into the mix. People give too much credit to that character.
@RoryMcHugo Now when it comes to music. Both scores are pretty good. The original told the tale through simply fitting the mood while the other told the tale by fitting the cues with the visuals(and silence was used just as well excluding that fuck up at the end when it was meant to be silent, although that track made up for actually adding an approriate climactic cue during the beam clash which the original version lacked and ended up feeling more underwhelming).
OMG I always think of Jessie and her mom when I hear this... I just can't help it.

@SoraTheKeyblader
The TV Special sucked, Mewtwo acted entirely out of character whether it was the original, or dubbed. He was a total wimp.
The original Pokemon movie (in it's original language) is the best thing the Pokemon universe (outside of the games) has to offer.
RoryMcHugo 1 year ago
@RoryMcHugo Correction, Both the first film and the special in either language overall sucked.
