@kdwildman Air France Flight 296 was a chartered flight of an Airbus A320 . On June 26, 1988. it was scheduled to fly low over Mulhouse-Habsheim Airport. it crashed into the tops of trees beyond the runway. The 2 pilots on board survived. 3 passengers died. Cause of the accident is disputed . The common misconception of Air France 296 being an unmanned plane flown by a computer was created after TLC released a show without researching the crash appropriately . It certainly was a manned flight

This was not a computer flying at the time of the crash. The captain had delayed the full power and claimed that the plane did not go to full power when commanded to. I think the misconception of the story occured when the news heard it was a "fly-by-wire" aircraft, which was taken as a computer doing the flying, when that wasn't the case at all.

All I can find are reports that state that this plane had 130 passengers, 3 who died in the resulting fire afterward. The captain was to blame, but this is disputed because he claims that the engines did not respond to his command.

@mk3stargazer Do you understand what the conflict is about? This was a manned plane. There were pilots in the front, and there were passengers in the back. For some reason you think this was an "UNmanned" plane, when it was not. Explain your reason for thinking this was an "UNmanned" plane! Just google Air France flight 296 crash, and you will find the report that this was indeed a piloted aircraft. If you think otherwise please show me some evidence. Am I not being clear enough?

Here's the story. The pilot was doing a low fly-by at an airshow - the plane had over 150 passengers, 3 of whom died. The pilot claimed that his altimeter reading was incorrect that the thrusters hadn't responded properly - 1 month earlier, Airbus had issued a warning about both these issues, but these weren't passed onto the pilot. Someone deleted 4 seconds from the flight boxes, removing the pilot's only chance to prove his innocence -- the latter was given 10 months jail.

This is the Mulhouse Habsheim crash, the plane was full of fare paying passangers, three died, the pilot was held responsible for failing to follow his briefed plan and letting the bird get too low and slow with the engines at idle. See Wikipedia for a fair summary.
