“Then you can tell me goodbye” written by John D. Loudermill and sung by Gene Hughes is about a romantic relationship that could definitely make it. I believe in working out relationship issues and not giving up before the challenge. Issues could be taken care of only if both people are sincere and truthful to one another.
If you listen carefully to the left channel towards the end of the solo around 1:57 you can hear someone say "Ready?" in the background. I love hearing these types of things. Gives the song more character. The greatest love song EVER. And for all of you older folks, I'm 33. Some of us young people can still appreciate good music.
A great song by The Casinos! Is it just me, or does the lead singer sound a lot like Roger Greenaway of The Fortunes? "Then You Can Tell Me Goodbye" has since been covered by numerous artists (Glen Campbell & Toby Beau among others).
Very interesting information about the group and this lovely gem which I remember hearing growing up. The organ & horn section in this tune are so distinct & captivating ... it just doesn't get any better. Thank you bpabustan for sharing!
@doowopkid I truly believe good music is good music it doesn't matter if it was released by the time the phonograph was invented or released a minute ago on itunes. This to me is a classic doowop record, albeit in a different approach than what was usually released in the 50s. Truth is I was convinced for so long there is never any stereo version of this record until just very recently! Thanks for the compliments bro!
Come see this band with Carl Edmondson as lead on April 16th. Dinner included and must be purchased by April 4th. Visit williebenefit.info for information
I've been confused in the past too. same as you. So yesterday i went on line to xxxxxxxxxxcom and to obits and entered Gene Hughes.. As you know, Gene lived in Cincy. Could it be a different Hughes? Please let me know.
@12014343 Boy, I am now confused, you are the fourth person to give me a different date other than the one given by Wikipedia (which I am now beginning to distrust due to a lot of inaccuracies). Some says February 3, 2008, one says February 3, 2004, one says February 3, 2005, then your date says March 30, 2006. I hope someone can really set this one straight. Anyways, thanks for the correction. Just goes to show how wrong Wikipedia could be.
If ever there was a song that takes you back to where you were and what you were doing when you first heard it, this is it. As good now as it was in the 60's. Takes me back in my "mind's eye" to places and people I'll remember always.
I live in Cincinnat and knew these guys, Ray White the Bass player is a very good friend of mine. They were a A+ class act. I use to go and see them at a club in Cincy and proud I got to get up and play some songs with them. Went to see them at the old Beverly Hills Nite Club, They were outstanding.
@lfridel You my friend are a very lucky man to have known this group of men and their music. Lucky also to have lived in a time when this music was popular. This song is one of the best love songs ever recorded and brings back many memories for me. If only they could make music like this today. I feel sorry for the youth of today. They will never have this.
I remember my mom playing this 45 on our Emerson console stereo in our one 1 1/2 room apartment in Deer Park Long Island, I think she was missing my dad.
They divorced when she was carrying me, this was back in 1963.
I do love you.

The special song of my junior/senior year girlfriend in 1966-68. We parted ways got together after 40 years and the song still goes through it.

This sounds so much better than the vinyl. I never heard all the subtle instrumentation and I listened to this record until it wore out.

@bpabustan The correct date according to Billboard magazine historian Joel Whitburn is 2/3/2004. It's listed in his book of Top 40 hits 1955-Present.
