However in this case the opposite happened. They asked a question. He didn't like being filmed, so HE got in THEIR face. And then he crossed another huge line by grabbing the kid. Illegal. Done and done.

He made an apology on his web site. One line was "despite how intrusive..." as if there is blame to put towards the student. First of all, he is a student. This guy is already in the public eye, and he assaults a kid on the side of the street for asking a simple question. It isn't until, of course, the video goes viral, that he recognizes any wrong doing on his part. This is the message he's willing to give to aspiring students? He didn't deserve the chance to apologize.

You do not need permission to take a picture of someone on public property. It is not an infringement of their rights. Doing so on private property is a different deal. Which is why being a paparazzi is a legitimate job.
Recording on public property is not against the law either. However you do have the right to have your face blurred out.
The only way Rep. Etheridge was on the right, is if the camera and the camera man were directly blocking him from his destination.

yo i know this looks terrible, but most if not all you guys are forgetting there are two sides to every story. This is a biased video and I'm not gonna make up my opinion unless I can find out the reason, if there was one, why the congressman acted the way he did. Most people on this planet try do everything they can to avoid confrontation so there must have been something to set him off. BUT whatever it was, in retrospect, it was still probably a bad decision to act that way....

Watch the full video, this is not an attack or assault. The Congressman doesn't know who this kid is or who he works for. For all he knows this could be an attack waiting to happen by the opposing party wanting to confront him and hound him. He asked for identification in the form of name and who is. The student should have complied to help lower the tension instead of sitting there refusing to answer him. That only makes you look suspicious
