That isn't a VR-4, it is a MR (Mitsubishi Racing). The MR has a slightly more aggressive engine tune (Same HP, but the fuel mapping isn't setup for daily driving, unlike normal VR-4s. The MR is tuned to optimize power and torque throughout the RPM band via the more aggressive mapping) and also has factory weight reduction done to it. MR beats a GT-R in stock trim, barely, but a normal VR-4 loses to a GT-R... Still, a stock VR-4 will do a good job of staying on the heels of a stock GT-R.
@Dreznin assuming that its a 3000gt (USDM) and not a GTO (JDM), the 3000gt never came in an MR trim. it came in base, SL, and VR-4. the GTO however does have a MR trim. you can try and make an agrument that theyre the same, well yes technically. but geographically no. thats like saying an Integra type R is the same in USDM and JDM, which theyre not.

I doubt that VR4 was that highly tuned. The Nissan just wasn't a GTR. It was a Nissan Skyline R34 GT-T which is rear wheel drive. You can see this clearly when the white lights under the tail lights go on when he brakes before the race. GTR's don't have those white lights they only have the four red circular tail lights. It would have definitely been a closer race if it were against a Nissan Skyline R34 GTR V-spec II Nür. Details are everything, get the facts right.

Definitely not an R34, like everyone said. You can tell by the shape of the taillights; even the rear Skyline picture is that of an R32. Kinda iffy on the AWD issue of the Skyline too. If the title is correct and you are racing a Hennessey-tuned 3000 vs. a regular Skyline, then that's like a professional sprinter vs. a high school track-and-field sprinter. Kind of a moot point in racing these cars, I would say.
That Skyline is not a gtr its a gts rwd only thats why the 3000gt jumped out on it so hard. Plus it did a burnout and had wheel spin. i know some gtrs have a switch to go from awd to rwd but this was not one of them.its a great video and i love both cars just get the facts right.

@Splinterblood Stock VR-4's put down around 270ish AWHP. Factories dyno engines at the crankshaft, everyone else does it on a dyno that has drivetrain loss as a factor.

No way? All of the twin turbo's from that era are evenly matched. A GTR, VR-4. Supra, RX-7....its pretty much a drivers race if you line up all of those cars bone stock against one another.
You might wanna check up on that buddy. VR4 was ok but weighed 300kg+ more then most of the other cars you mentioned. When standard they havent got too much chance if both drivers know what there doing.

Ive got a stock 3000gt twin turbo 98 model, originally bought it a few years ago to sell on and ended up keeping it for well over 3 years and still have it! Ive owned soo many fast cars, maseratis etc but like the previous comment said, these cars are superb in every way and look better than most of the cars on the road, and ive found reliability to be superb too, performance handling, everything is perfect and mines only around 320bhp but its fast enough for me!
and for all who wants to know look at the video with the two japanese racers putting a stock vr4 against a stock skyline. The vr4 wins barely but it still won. So

and yes, all the lowest 1/4 miles are 4cyl...why? because they weigh fucking nothing, run on 35PSI on a titanuim block...hence, 550HP on a quarter of the weight.

No way? All of the twin turbo's from that era are evenly matched. A GTR, VR-4. Supra, RX-7....its pretty much a drivers race if you line up all of those cars bone stock against one another.
A VR-4 beating an R-33 is totally believable.

You might wanna check up on that buddy. VR4 was ok but weighed 300kg+ more then most of the other cars you mentioned. When standard they havent got too much chance if both drivers know what there doing.

Yep, 0:12 and 0:14 are different models...
0:12 is what was raced (R33 - you can tell by the equally sized, solid red tail lights)
0:14 is a R34

Its cheaper to bore and stroke a RB26

Ive got a stock 3000gt twin turbo 98 model, originally bought it a few years ago to sell on and ended up keeping it for well over 3 years and still have it! Ive owned soo many fast cars, maseratis etc but like the previous comment said, these cars are superb in every way and look better than most of the cars on the road, and ive found reliability to be superb too, performance handling, everything is perfect and mines only around 320bhp but its fast enough for me!

and for all who wants to know look at the video with the two japanese racers putting a stock vr4 against a stock skyline. The vr4 wins barely but it still won. So
1. No question about the driving ability
2. No question about the vr4s weight being a problem
3. Jump off the skylines you know wuts
4. VR4 owns all old and new
5. 3000gts looks better than 90 percent of all the other cars
6. I found at least 5 companies that are dedicated to just the 3000 gt

Its only america that has the 3L vr4 gto, over here in new zealand and japan (i think..pretty sure) its a 3L but not vr4, the vr4s here a 2.5L and they are in galants and shit.
