  • i will always think of Graham Dilley when ever i hear this song R.I.P.

  • Thanks for postung this clip of such a beautiful piece. I first met Roy in 1980 and his ethos and writing have forged the backbone of my personal integrity

  • roy, cant you come here?

  • @tweedy151 - I most certainly heard this and it brought tears to my eyes thinking of when I went to see Roy Harper in Oxford Town Hall in the mid-70s. Then only a few days later, I heard the sad news that one of my colleagues from those times, and a true gent, has just died. Tears aplenty being shed chez moi and I doubt I'll ever be able to listen to this beautiful song without sobbing buckets.

  • Did anyone hear him yesterday on Radio4 playing this with Aggers? Wonderful.

  • @tweedy151 Sure did, and a great insight into how he got the idea for Cricketer!

  • Exquisite, .....simply Exquisite )~

  • I can really hear the influence on the smiths/morrissey towards the end of this track

  • Amazing. After so long he has still go it.

  • Agree about the brass band - wonderful.

  • It's a fabulous song, but the album version with the brass band is so totally wonderful it's as wonderful as a wonderful song can be.

  • @MACHAWK123 From the wonderfulness of wonderfuldom..

  • @MACHAWK123 Cock on - that version is amazing - gonna look for it now

  • This along with 'If' are to be played at my 'funeral'.

    A true boy of summer.

  • I have the copy of this with The Grimethorpe Colliery Band and yes goosebumps indeed

  • Just bought Roy's double CD compilation released a few years ago. This track is one of those that really stand out and this is a marvellous performance. Does anyone know where it was shot? Reidditmot?

For those that want the additional melancholia of the original recording, with the Grimethorpe Colliery Band (goose bumps, but I'm a soft northerner!) , I wouldn't hesitate in recommending his Counter Culture double compliation.

  • @darbykj1 Barbican, London, although it does say in the info..Sorry it's took a year to reply :D

  • How i miss seeing Roy play the Red Lion folk club in Kings Heath Birmingham. Back in the 80's he was there a fair bit, great venue for such a great personal musician.

  • @abbeyofthelema666 I have some stuff from The Red Lion..

  • @reldditmot so do i and lots more besides.Been a huge Harper fan since the late seventies. Seen him too many times to remember, doubt I'll see him again living in Sydney.

    P.S. love your work.

  • @reldditmot Excellent, are they up on your channel? Video's or audio..point me in the right direction to which ones they are.Great channel by the way. I have always liked Zappa aswell. Will be trawling through your channel for some time to come as i could do with "brushing up" on both Harper & Zappa...looks like a good place to start. :)

  • Great song. Expertly performed. Respect the bloke for sure. Saw him in at the ' Twelve Bar Club' Tottenham Court Road London in the early 2000's. The stiffs in the audience in this video, could have got up and applauded at least, for crying out loud !

  • Went to see him in the late 80's at Euston and he came in wearing an anorak! He gave me a lovely smile though! An under estimated star, brilliant catch him at Jazz Cafe Camden 5th June 2010 if you can, you won't be disappointed.

  • Roy has produced some fantastic music there's not a day goes by that I'm not over come by his ability to produce music that is of this level of brilliance

  • still waiting for that fleeting glimpse of that 12th man at silly mid-on, roy... but i know he's there!

hope i don't knock the ball to him too soon...

  • Awesome work Reldditmot

    Great video. :)

    Much love Kat

  • One of my faves. Always makes me cry. I met Roy at Larry's Hideaway (Toronto) He can make you Laugh too.

  • We had the Sibelius week in Finland this week !Roy Harper has the unique style that somehow reminds of Jean Sibelius. Music that lives forever, I believe. This perfomance is great as always. I saw Roy in Finland ca. 1980 with a band, but still the solo perfomances were the most memorable.

  • Silly mid-on...you can get hit quiet a lot in that position! Piercing atmospheric melancholy....

  • Really great performance.

  • An Excellent Performance! 5*++

  • So English..Only Roy could have written this masterpiece :)

  • genius
