Ello.....says it all! Great song! You got the rythym, you got the speed, mamas lil baby likes it short and sweet....ahhhh the good ol days of real music!
Just a great song. Saw Ian & Mick play together several times throughout the 70's and 80's including the original Hunter/Ronson gig at the Hammy Odeon in 1975 promoting Ian's new solo album. That show will stay in my memory for ever. Ronson's guitar playing was just awesome, especially on the track " The whole Truth". If you're in the UK check out Ian's short tour in October 2012; he is still doing the business and very few contemporary bands would be able to shake a stick at him.
Song has everything, humour, real balls without bulshit macho posturing, great saloon bar piano Ian Hunters unique voice and Mick Ronson's guitar is just electrifying. Love the way the song lets rip at 1.42. Have to agree with you sawbird definitely could be the best song of the seventies. Havent heard it in ages always reminds of hitchhiking in Northern Ireland in1975! Just heard Great White's..most try harder boys. Question, is there a song on youtube that has attracted mention of the Bieber :)
the 'hook' on this song for me is Ronno wringing that solo note after the lead solo into the chorus (around the 3 minute mark)--still gives me chills--God I miss Ronno--Ian is still great in concert at 72--saw him again in CLE this past fall
I heard Mott's "All the Young Dudes" as a featured single on Top 40 radio when I was in 7th grade...Riding around in the back seat of some friends car...drinking Southern COmfort...I became a big Mott Fan and Ian Hunter...Bought this shit when it first came out on LP...True Brit Rock with just the right touch of Bowie Glam...True English rock...my heritage..Love it...
there were no radio stations with balls to play this in the 1970s.It was not till the 80s that Great White had small hit with it , Most rock fans new who the real artist were.
@CosmicFork for me personally, i love the Great White version, and I like this version too, but i almost prefer the Great White version, cuz its the version i heard first
Saw Hunter Ronson band live when this was released in feb 75...brilliant then and brilliant today...and to cap it all my son went to school with Ian Hunter (Pattersons) grandson...top drawer!
I agree with you Brummie . . . I went from Stafford to Oswestry just to feel I was in the place where the great man came from! Brilliant voice+Mott the H.
I am a massive fan and met ian a couple of times...I even walked to Oswestry where he was born when i was a kid (15) living in Birmingham..A bit scary eh???
@jeffleoncomedy Ronson's greatness so underappreciated... from his edgey guitar style to his soaring production prowess... his humility was his biggest downfall.. classic example of how a lack of pretension will kill you in the rock n' roll biz... If you don't blow your own horn...no one will blow it for you!.... I truly miss this great talent!
@CosmicFork real rock can see micks playing for himself both are enjoying what there doing so much real performers great track remember it well we had some great music the then didnt we showing me age a bit but great years no x factor or rubbish like that
Love this video. It should be cleaning my apartment and instead I have watched this now for the...... fifth time in a row..... and am clicking replay again. The dust can wait.
Didn't read the original info posted by sawbird. Was about to post on my FB page with the text "Best rock-n-roll song ever?" ... assuming my knucklehead friends would disagree... but me and sawbird know better !!!
I used this song to practice for a skit I had to dance to in college. I wish I could remember the chorography. It was real scary to be on stage having to remember steps live.
Used to sing this in my band in '76. what a great song. Tried a few times afterwards but too much politics. i.e. you musos all know what i mean!!!!!!! ("Move over cos your standing in my light.") Ian Hunter, Check out 'Welcome to the Club'... Very underrated artist. also R.I.P. Mick Ronson.
Oh, my God. Mercy! the chicks, the snarliness, Freakin ballad.just rolls and Rolls< i did' nt know what rock n roll was Ian or great white, what does it matter! once bitten twivce shy
My first memories of this song was hearing it on radio Luxemburg as a 12 year old in 1975. Its timeless and possibly my favourite song. Its got it all... the energy. the lyrics And its great to see that guitar solo by Mick Ronson. The whole thing rocks and they look pretty cool too! Thank you Mr Sawbird!
Once Bitten Twice Shy and My Sharona by The Knack is the two best rock and roll songs ever. I cant help it but no ones comes even close. Too bad I havent seen The Knack, but Hunter and Ronson Ive seen. Great. Thanx Sawbird
Ronno, Guitar Master! Man, was he ever GREAT! No wonder Ian always played with him when he could! Seriously, this was back when rock had real musicians who could play. RIP Mick and keep on rockin' Ian! Thanks for sharing this.
