This would probably be one of my all time favorite bands if they'd get a new singer. I never really liked his voice but despite that I have listened to them quite a lot for a few years now. Some songs I love, some songs I like but can't stand to listen to because of him. And after watching this whole concert it is painfully obvious that he just doesn't belong with these world-class musicians. It's just that simple. Alright, there are "worse singers".. it that your best argument for keeping him?
@arnartg It's primarily because he has to keep up with them. They are amazing, and he is too. but they need a high note singer and this is the guy. I thought he was great on score, though you should check that out. He is constantly going off-key because that is his vocal equivalent of a mike portnoy drum solo, or john petrucci's solo's. I can't hit those High notes and I don't know anyone who can. I'm just saying he's doing that on purpose for a reason. and that's my theory of that reason.

When i write slap lines into our songs, i'm sometimes tempted to end a verse or bar with slap, but i usually save it for specific sections of songs, and also amalgamated with some fingerstyle, too. Though, i wouldn't doubt someone of myung's ability could play slap bass.

From a technical standpoint, there are much better drummers than Mike Portnoy, and there are tons of guitarists who can play all of Petrucci's stuff with their hands tied behind their back. I'm not saying that they are better musicians, because they can't create music as good as Dream Theater, but in the end it's all about personal taste and opinion. And in my opinion, LaBrie is an amazing singer. And I don't know many singers who could sing DT songs as good as James.

What I particularly love about this song is how it brings back the early themes and at the end of it, you have a diminished keyboard passage which makes a wonderful transition into the next song. God dammit, so jelous! I wish I had the power to make music like that.

Black Clouds & Silver Linings beats Octavarium and Systematic Chaos, imo. A Rite of Passage is easily the most mediocre song on there, but the others are great... especially The Shattered Fortress, The Best of Times, and The Count of Tuscany.
The count of tuscany is just a full on masterpiece :) The shattered fortress is a follow on from Repentance. Dream theater never sieze to amaze. :) Long live DREAM THEATER!!
The shattered fortress is the ending of the twelve step suit. It's the follow up from This Dying Soul, The Glass Prison, The Root of All Evil and Repentence. Lovely song and album! Meeting them on september 25th, gonna be awesome :D
Yeah, basically the entire album is great, with the exception of a rite of passage. It's good, but not on the same level that the other songs are.
That said, I think Redemption's new album Snowfall on Judgment Day is going to be miles ahead of Black Clouds & Silver Linings. Can't wait till Sept 29..

lol, there's also a shitload of singers that are better.
you get one of the best guitarists in his field, one of the best drummers ever, and one of the most amazing bass players ever and then you add a mediocre singer.
It's not that we don't like labrie, it's that the rest of DT is far better in their respective fields then he is in his.

From a technical standpoint, there are much better drummers than Mike Portnoy, and there are tons of guitarists who can play all of Petrucci's stuff with their hands tied behind their back. I'm not saying that they are better musicians, because they can't create music as good as Dream Theater, but in the end it's all about personal taste and opinion. And in my opinion, LaBrie is an amazing singer. And I don't know many singers who could sing DT songs as good as James.

Roadrunner will release the record on June 23. In addition to the standard version CD, the album will also be available on vinyl LP, as well as a 3-disc Special Edition CD that will include the full album, a CD of instrumental mixes of the album and a CD of six cover songs, the titles of which will be revealed at a later date.From DT official website!

What I particularly love about this song is how it brings back the early themes and at the end of it, you have a diminished keyboard passage which makes a wonderful transition into the next song. God dammit, so jelous! I wish I had the power to make music like that.
But then, I couldn't cos they've done it already. Blast!

Black Clouds & Silver Linings beats Octavarium and Systematic Chaos, imo. A Rite of Passage is easily the most mediocre song on there, but the others are great... especially The Shattered Fortress, The Best of Times, and The Count of Tuscany.

The shattered fortress is the ending of the twelve step suit. It's the follow up from This Dying Soul, The Glass Prison, The Root of All Evil and Repentence. Lovely song and album! Meeting them on september 25th, gonna be awesome :D

Yeah, basically the entire album is great, with the exception of a rite of passage. It's good, but not on the same level that the other songs are.
That said, I think Redemption's new album Snowfall on Judgment Day is going to be miles ahead of Black Clouds & Silver Linings. Can't wait till Sept 29..

All the songs are amazing, specially count of tuskany and wither. Also the solo of the best of times is not from this world. Hope to see it live next tour :)
