  • lol 2006 :P

  • Sounds like AntVenom

  • Ok...

  • I LOVE PS :)

  • help me please? when i click on the eraser and i try to erase the background that was left over it doesnt rub it out!? someone please help me

  • @chezo12 CTRL+Z

  • thissss guyyyyy!

  • Couple more tips. Don't use the history brush. You can but you see in this tut one of the issues with it. I normally duplicate the image (not just the layer). Then use the Clone Stamp tool and you can zoom in on one pixel and with a 1 pixel brush set it perfect. The benefit of this is you have another untouched version to look at while you work.

The other thing is don't do this on a trans, bg. Create a white and black layer (2 total), and go back and forth depending on the pic.

  • Great tut, thanks!

Just as a helpful tip, rather than trace straight and angled lines like your first image using freehand, simply click one spot, then go to the end of the line you want it to draw, hold shift, then click again. It will connect both places where you clicked. A huge time saver and makes life so much simpler ;)

  • for thos of you who dont have the extract tool in ur filters menu, dont wory, it has been removed form cs4 and onwards. It is now an optional plugins and therefore can be downloaded in the adobe website:

    Optional plugins list:

    CS5 - adobe(.)ly/d40asH <== without the ( )

    CS4 - adobe(.)ly/19qD7J <== without the ( )

P.S I haven't confirmed that the extract filter is present is the cs4 version so just google it if its not there.

  • @10293847565846800 Why use the Extract filter over the Magic Wand? In the past, I've used the magic wand to select a part of the image to remove. I wasn't aware of extract. Lots of problems with the wand, so this is nice. The wand often selects the wrong things or not what you want to select.

  • MAGNETIC LASO! :D save's my life. doing it this way would kill me XD

  • Great video, thank you a lot!

  • freekin fantastic thanks!!

  • 661,282 people didn't use extraction.

  • My favorite part is when he showed selection techniques.

  • that was a little rough..

  • /watch?v=JbucC9154fY

  • @TheOnlyRoxtar Thanks :D

I downloaded the Extract filter too :P

I think refine edges is better. Waste of space that download. Oh well xD

  • @TheOnlyRoxtar Refine Edge? I'm using Cs5 as well and cannot find it for the life of me :P

Could you possibly tell me where exactly it is or if i need to download anything else to get it?

  • Best tutorial I've come across. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.

  • w ww . ttutorials. t k

  • So which version is it?

  • thank you so much!

  • i think this is not easy but thank you for sharing now i know what the use of extract filter.

  • It's much more effective when dealing with hard edges to use the lasso tool when 'cleaning' up the edges.

  • why my extract filter disappeared ? I mean it was there the last time I saw it !

  • Excellent guide, very helpful.

And Lols to the CS4 users... CS3 is the way forward.

  • hotfile.com/dl/94424177/9ad31ce/Adobe_Photoshop_CS8_incl_serial.rar.html

  • Photoshop tutorials, from beginner to advanced. photo manipulation, icon design, text effects, interface, layout, painting, photo effects, psd tuts, maxon cinema 4d, designing.

  • Much easier with lasso tool.

  • The extract filter is horrible. Just use the magic wand when you can, if you cant just cut it out yourself. It's slow but it's exact. The only time I use channels to extract something is on hair.

  • I'll do it in 30 seconds by polygonal lasso !)))

  • why do people even dislike this video?

  • For all the painting and erasing to get it right, you could just use a layer mask instead of the history brush...

Not surprised it was removed from CS4. It is definitely NOT the fastest or most precise way of separating elements.

Yes I know it was 2006.

Don't waste your time with the plug-in.

  • 1:25 Mmmmkay lol South Park

  • @xMGSNAKEx hahaha.. if you keep playing it over and over.. its really funny

  • ya well im running 7.0 and it got me nowhere michael j. fox.

  • For you CS4 and CS5 folks, the Extract Filter does not come standard with your versions of Photoshop, but you can install this filter manually with a plug-in available from Adobe. Google search: Adobe Photoshop CS4 (or CS5) Optional plug-ins. You can also find these plug-ins and presets in your Goodies folder on your DVD install disc, Enjoy!

Forgive me ignorance but what application is used to create these tutorials? Looks like its a screen capture like tool, like desktop sharing almost?

  • @KJEboys You use screen capture software. Google> CamStudio or Hypercam2

both are free. You then just need a microphone for the voice over.

  • Visit this tutorial site now:

    denniserodriguez.co.cc/blog/

  • the extract filter can be downloaded for cs4

  • I thought this was a terrible tool. I'd much rather zoom in and use the polygonal lasso tool.

  • r u being serious that for a second u think this is the best tool to use wen it cutting out images!

i aint being funny and i know that was rushed but for a final peice that was ..hmmm rubish

  • x is pronounced x, not xsh

  • Dude... You have very annoying accent/voice. Thanks for the video though.

  • Is it just me or is this a more in-depth version of quick mask tool.

  • My thoughts exactly. The filter seems pretty useless which would explain its absence in CS4. Masks all the way.

  • very good video thanks alot

  • CS4 dont have the extract tool

  • so which filter can i use?

  • @driftkinguk26 You can download it for free at Adobes website.

  • @driftkinguk26 Yes it does. Look under Filters> right under "Convert for Smart Filters"

  • @driftkinguk26 mine dosent either, but "Q" works good, its just copying and putting in a duplicate layer.

  • @driftkinguk26

it is an optional filter you can download it for free from adobe's site

and by the way this is not the best way to use it.

  • @driftkinguk26 U can download "Extract" from the Adobe website easy and free =)

  • @driftkinguk26 this vid was made in 2006 idiot.

  • @driftkinguk26 It doesn't come with it, you need to download it. I think you could just google it and find the download link (:

  • @driftkinguk26 thanks for telling me, i have cs3 and i will not upgrade!

  • Comment removed

  • @driftkinguk26 you have to download it as a plug in.

  • if i am extracting an image from its background and i want to bring the extracted photoshop image into illustrator, what format do i have to save the photoshop extracted image as?

And also i want the photoshop extracted image to have a translucent background but the background is white when i bring it into illustrator....... what am i doing wrong????? HELPPPPPP!

  • This method is weird I find other much easy.

I'm a photoshop noob but what I do is use the quick selection tool >.> and if I'm not lazy I use the pen tool which is hard but it gives great result.

  • Thats only when you got right lines..

  • Amei!

    5 estrelas.

...Mas dá pra legendar em Português???

    kisses for You

  • Thank u so much for saving my time ^^

  • wow, I couldn't even finish watching that video... extracting then using the history brush? seriously? joke?

if you want a truly non-destructive editing that affords you more control than this method, just use a mask and brush in/out your image.

  • Sorry, but this really is a terrible image cutting method. You could probably get a better result in Windows Paint!

For a more cleaner/precise cut, I really suggest just using the Pen tool. It's actually a lot easier and quicker, and not to mention gives a better result than the "technique" used above. That's my opinion anyway.

  • thankss!! keep doing tutorial.. mwah!

  • just use the damn lasso if your lazy this method is horrible

  • thanks for that =]

  • Thank you so much for posting this.... It's been a great help. Just wish I had seen it before.

  • yhea, i have get that now..., work perfectly, thanks for the tutorial:-)

  • anybody know why the extract filter just does not activate on some photos? I use ps7 and sometimes it just gives me the red circle/bar, on photos I took, not protected.

  • i still am non the wiser. :L

  • i cant move the pic over the other pic

  • i've got extract now, but i wonder why they removed it...

  • how do you get it i cs4?

  • just google "extract for cs4 download"

  • thanks, i got it and it worked!

  • I use 3 ways to crop my images

    1. the eraser tool

    2. the lasso tool

    3. the pen tool

    now i have a 4th way! 8D

  • Great video, great tool. Thanks man, for sharing your knowledge on Photoshop.
