I always see comments about people complaining about this band being sellouts. I see where they're coming from, considering this band used to sing about Anarchy, and now sing about telling people to vote. I'm curious as to if anyone else agree's that maybe this band matured...realizing true anarchy will never happen. The only way to make a difference in this country is to vote the Replublicans out of office. Selling out and maturing as a band are 2 very different things.
i honestly think that they are just sellouts because i saw an interview with them acknowledging the fact that they sold out to sell records. Most people don't find the subject of anarchy something they want to listen to, as well as their folk/punk genre. They could be seen as maturing though if they just switched genre's and kept their same basic messages. I think Tom Gabel would have written a song about realizing anarchy wasn't possible if he felt that way. That's his true style.
tom gabel was 17 when he made he first record. he's 27 now. im sure his views have changed from a 17 year old to a 27 year. and in his songs he talks about never having to work, and honestly he would have to get a job if he didnt make money singing, and he doesnt, so it's kinda more anarchy in what they are doing than staying small, and eventually breaking up and having to get a job. i dont know, i guess, haha.

I see where they're coming from, considering this band used to sing about Anarchy, and now sing about telling people to vote. I'm curious as to if anyone else agree's that maybe this band matured...realizing true anarchy will never happen. The only way to make a difference in this country is to vote the Replublicans out of office. Selling out and maturing as a band are 2 very different things.

i honestly think that they are just sellouts because i saw an interview with them acknowledging the fact that they sold out to sell records. Most people don't find the subject of anarchy something they want to listen to, as well as their folk/punk genre. They could be seen as maturing though if they just switched genre's and kept their same basic messages. I think Tom Gabel would have written a song about realizing anarchy wasn't possible if he felt that way. That's his true style.

tom gabel was 17 when he made he first record. he's 27 now. im sure his views have changed from a 17 year old to a 27 year. and in his songs he talks about never having to work, and honestly he would have to get a job if he didnt make money singing, and he doesnt, so it's kinda more anarchy in what they are doing than staying small, and eventually breaking up and having to get a job. i dont know, i guess, haha.

Many of them just see it as an excuse to break things, but there are those of us who understand it and who would prefer anarchism over this current system, so yes, I know what it "implies". Btw, Chomsky is an anarchist and he's for it.

he's for it with certain limitations. chomsky does not advocate the kind of no rules barred total chaos that many young punkrockers think is all that goes into anarchism. there are many social factors to anarchism that are disregarded.
