Quit with the bitching, honestly. If the horse was bred to step high, then it should. Though many of the horses ARE in a way "forced" to step high using gimmicks, they're not ALL like so. Many Arabians have been bred for generations to get this high stepping action, park horses. Others that DON'T step so high were not bred to do so! It's all a matter of the horse. Let's not just put a label on them all and say it's not right or they're all bred that way. :)

Relative to the high knee action: An unprincipled money-grubbing thief named Gene Lacroix the late 1970s-1980s bought off Arabian horse judges by the boat load and started the trend of high knee action. Of course it's all done with weight, chains, and other "back roon" training tricks, as anyone with any knowledge of horses knows that Arabians are not a high-trotting breed, they are a galloping breed with a floating trot.
Hmm...that's odd because I rode at an arabian breeding farm, and saw the foals stepping perkily from day 1. But I don't really care what you think because I barrel race now, instead of saddle seat.
person named londonhorse08 has explained that these horses may actually be half hackney - that would explain the high knee action. In English horse shows the Arab horses have a low, extended kind of trot they definately do not look like these horses. No need to get personal and call me an idiot - American horse shows are very - very different from English ones, that's all.
actually purebred arabs can trot like that, an arab can be bred to have a big trot just like any other horse. just find the biggest trotting arabs and breed them together. no doubt american shows are very different, in america it has become a trend to have saddleseat arabians, to diversify the breed, and to appreciate the arabian breed in the division of saddleseat, not to have them compared to hackneys or saddlebreds or morgans.
Purebred Arabs can had knee action like this too. Many people think that it is all about weighted shoes...nope they will only give you so much. It is more about collecting the horse and driving them up to the bit. That is what gives you the big trot. I have a half arab x american saddlebred, so he has does have natural action, but I can bring it out even more by using collection. BTW, my horse is barefoot, so I rely only on aids from my legs, seat, and hands to encourage him to step higher.

Not only is it bred into their bloodlines, this is also the Half-Arabian division, so many of these horses may actually be half hackney.
