  • I'm pretty sure an office visit was more than $3.00, even in 1969.

And I don't think very many docs were still making housecalls then, either.

    Maybe in 1949...or even 1959, in a few places...but 1969? I doubt it.

  • Didn't James Brolin swich to a 650-750 Yamaha...Triumps are ok

  • wasn't that Beaver Cleaver's old house he came out of?!?

  • @kwgthacher Yessssss to the Yessss.

  • I think that Marcus Welby was a fag gay poof.

  • @nickelback1955 He didn't seem that way when he was sucking my cock.

  • Did anybody else ever walk out of their house with such dramatic music?

  • @bobfritz1466 - LOL!! I was thinking the same thing...This was the "Leave It To Beaver" house, and if you remember that show, you'd know the music they played was just bad.

  • Before HMO's and the corporate takeover of healthcare, there was Marcus Welby, M.D.

  • i watched this show weekly. it helped me figure out something that helped a girl. she came back from egypt sick and weak and tests showed nothing. i remember seeing welby handle a case of bhyzzeria, (spelling?) a parasite egyptians get from swimming in or drinking water from the nile. i asked if she had done so and she had been in the river. sure enough, they found the parasite and started treatment. marcus welby saved the day again.

  • Why is Marcus Welby living in Beaver Cleaver's house?

  • @devtrev Didn't you hear what happened? Ward got fired at his job. Fred Rutherford and June were having an affair and Ward found out about it and beat Fred to a pulp at "the office". Then he went home and had it out with June. Divorce proceedings were next. The house was sold to Dr. Marcus Welby....a successful physician. Ward moved in with his Uncle Billy who was running an alligator farm in FL. June and Fred married and moved to Bellport next door to Aunt Martha.

  • @ridgerunner721601 But what happened to Wally? And June's little Beaver?

  • @devtrev Well, Wally and Beaver became Lumpy and Violet Rutherford's stepbrothers but there was lots of trouble. Lumpy was always jealous because he wanted to date Mary Ellen Rogers, but she only had eyes for Wally. And despite being step siblings the Beaver had a crush on Violet. In the meantime Violet was pining away for Larry Mondello, whose parents had finally moved to Cincinnati because his father did so much business there. Also, Fred's ex wife attacked and nearly killed June one day.

  • Folks, this was made when doctors still made house calls and a visit cost about $3.00 - Way before HMOs, HIPPA, and all things medical today! Great era for doctors back then - they actually got to know their patients.

  • @TypesALot Yes!! So true!!

  • @TypesALot And doctors still made money. And our beloved USA wasn't over a trillion dollars in debt thanks to greedy politicians and a "president" not born in the the USA.

  • @TypesALot well, they have docs now that if you pay a huge yearly fee, they see you and only you, do housecalls etc etc etc. i can only afford the hmo kind.

  • I was going to mention the Leave It To Beaver House. One of the things I learned on the Universal Studios tour back in 1969? Back then the tour was AWESOME. Went thru dressing rooms & working sets......Saw a LOT. An all day event. I returned in 1996 to find the tour had been shortened to about a 45 minute tram ride. Sad for movie buffs....

  • In syndicated prints released in 1975, while the final season appeared on ABC, the title became "ROBERT YOUNG, FAMILY DOCTOR" [MCA was that anxious to release the series to local stations while it was still a "hot" commodity].

  • @fromthesidelines

taken from the episode called "All Flags Flying?"

  • The exterior of the Cleavers' house in "Leave it to Beaver" was used for the exterior of Dr. Welby's office.

  • The Beaver's house is shown here as Dr. Welby's office.

  • do you think barbra s watches this video???????

  • Loved this show when I was little. My sister and I had a crush on Dr. Kiley : )

  • @ladybluluv So did I, LOL!

  • i am just old enough to remember this being on t.v. ....but as a pre teen it didn't really have any appeal for me what i thought of then as a "grown up" show lol...now "Emergency" on the otherhand i loved

  • Marcus Welby, M.D. can be seen on the RTN Network so far their showing in complete order they was showing i believe the last season you either have to check your local listing ,or their website or called your cable, direct tv ,or sattilite rep for info.

  • My parents must have avoided every possible instance of this show, because it's the one show I remember hearing about all the time, and until just now, I don't ever remember seeing even a clip.

  • Steven Kiley, MD

  • my fave show it so good

  • Yeah Consuela!

  • I remember that Sally Field was a guest star once. The episode opened with her lighting a barbecue grill and setting herself on fire. Being 7 years old at the time, I was afraid of grills after that.

  • From a time when TVLand was a popular channel. But I NEVER watch TVLand any longer since they added those worthless shows like Roseann, Married With Children, the even more worthless original programs as High School Reunion and Cougar! To the once exceptional station - TVLand - may it R.I.P.

  • @schs1977 .....yeah i know what you mean TVLand along with Deja View are no longer the true "retro" channels they started out as....probably has something to do the cost of getting the rights to some the truly older 70's and 80's shows.....the 90's to me is not quite "retro" yet .

  • Well folks!! The show is now on DVD. I picked up my copy today, yayy!!

  • marcus welby's house is the same one used in leave it to beaver

  • Make Us Wellby, MD

  • James Brolin was hot!

  • Marcus Welby drove a 1969 Chrysler 300.

  • hey, can anyone tell me what kind of car Marcus Welby drove?

  • The facade of his office was the house used in the later few seasons of "Leave it to Beaver". This was also the home used in the classic 1955 Bogart film, "The Desperate Hours".

  • What a great 70's bass tone!

  • It's also on KHIZ here in Southern CA

  • If anyone is interested Marcus Welby, MD can be seen on the rtn network you have to check your local station.

  • @The1baddman I just received an exciting e-mail--Marcus Welby, M.D., Season 1 is scheduled for release this coming spring.

    IT'S ABOUT TIME.

If you are looking forward to this, raise your hand.

  • @The1baddman, I watched it everyday, but the bad thing RTN is no more.

  • Is that car WIDE ENOUGH?

Is that suit soiled with blood from his cut of headed patients?

What kind of Doctor drives by the Red Light District to work anyway?

At 0:16 Is he SMILING because he just GASSED someone who will soon undergo having their arms put where their legs should be, and their legs put where their arms should be?

If his name is Robert Young, why is he OLD?

These are questions I ask myself while on a concoction of pain killers.

  • Stop being such a dick because people don't take Marcus Welby seriously...better yet, get a life, move out of your parent's basement, and stop obsessing over an old TV show.

  • AHAHA I think you're right! I'm only being silly, don't take my comments seriously.

  • My comments were meant for Mr.Jamie1932, not you, shivercanada. I think that what you say about the show is funny, and if Mr.Jamie1932 can't get it, he or she should fuck off. Keep it up!

  • It's Jazz Doctor Welby!! And hey look there's his trusty partner in malpractice.. Perfect hair Kiley!(and he rides a dirt-bike to work because that cheapass boss Welby won't give him a goddam raise! Meanwhile Jazzy Welby drives to work in the USS Enterprise lollol

  • Does anyone remember when syndicated episodes airing at the same time as new episodes on the network had different titles? This was known as Robert Young-Family Doctor and Happy Days as Happy Days Again.

  • I remember those syndictaed titles. I remember when Laverne and Shirley was known as Laverne and Shirley and Company, Happy Days was Happy Days Again and "CHIPS" was titled "CHIPS PATROL" and Emergency was titled Emergency One. They did that to separate to first runs from the reruns.

  • I'll never forget that episode where he botched that abortion and the 16 year old girl died of a massive infection. Robert Young was at his finest hour as he began shouting for more towels and hot water! They just don't make them like him anymore, now you go to a medical practice in a friggin' storefront and some Indian works on you! Marcus Welby is rolling over in his grave...

  • Why don't you agitate for universal health care like the rest of the world has, then?

  • Why not just eat my shorts, dude? Any moron who stops by to troll a 4 month old comment on a non-subject and leaves a dozen spurious comments himself, has truly got a psychological problem. Go back to downloading from the porn boards instead of haunting a Marcus Wellby video, O.K.?

  • I'm just responding to your question, sir-no need to be insulting. And it is an honest question.

  • yes yes yes....this needs to come to DVD

  • And it's coming to DVD from Shout Factory/Universal sometime in March or April.

  • Bill Shatner (of course of Star Trek)guested on Marcus Welby. New Shatner dedication in great new bio (All About Jeffrey Hunter) at amazon!

  • Consuelo was a hottie!

  • Hey, that's the Leave it to Beaver house!

  • You are correct.

  • Yes it is

  • I loved all those doctors shows as a kid. I actually thought doctors were nice like that. Then I grew up and found out they are pretty boring and don't really give a rat's ass about anyone.

  • Much like Dr. House.

  • Doctors DO give a rat's ass...it's the system that grinds them down, one which you have to start changing! But due to the teabaggers and the Repukes, nothing will change.

  • I remember watching this show in the early

80's working a night shift. They were re-runs

    then. Time sure flies.

  • Why can't TV Land run this instead of crap from the 80's and 90's. This along with Ozzie and Harriett and Courtship of Eddies Father are my wish lish to be released.

  • Because they reran the hell out of these shows about 1000 times, that why.

  • @Neville6000.... sounds like like you been ran through quite a few times yourself!!!!

  • Looks like living in your parent's basement addicted to nostalgia has affected you a lot, dude. Or is it living in America messed up by Bush and having to be cleaned up by Obama being the thing that affects you?

  • janet blair who was on this show for a little bit, is my cousin. or was my cousin.

  • I didn't know "Marcus Welby, M.D." was rerun on T.V.Land!

  • Dr. Welby drives a Chrysler New Yorker from back in the days when Chrysler was, along with a Buick, the quintessential "doctor's car".

  • This show had the very distinction of making ABC the #1 network on TV (for their very 1st time) during the 1969-70 TV season.

  • Actually ABC-TV did not become the #1 overall station in the USA w/ the ratings until the 1976-77 season.

"Welby' was the first time, ABC had the nation's # 1 most watched show in the ratings for an entire year in 1969-70.

  • That's true.

  • Oh my god. This was back when if you wanted to see a tv show, you had to actually tune in when it was being aired, just the one time or you would miss it, no cable, no dvr, no utube. God you newbies don't know how great you have it now. This was a great series. Sorry it is not out on DVD. Not enough revenue I guess.

  • exactly.. So you planned your day around family dinner time and tv viewing. Imagine. Today, if I can't DVR it, I can't watch it. LOLOL

  • It's coming to DVD on May 4, 2010.

  • Perhaps you have misinterpreted me or considered me to be someone who gives a rat's ass about Marcus Welby DVD"s, Canada, neocon Kool-Aid, health care or obsessing over some guy living in his parent's basement!

You need to get a grip on reality and move along, leaving this video behind.

Do this in preservation of whatever is left of your fleeting sanity, do it for us, O.K.?

  • Dude, I was responding to two other posters, NOT you. You're a lost cause, anyway.

  • Plain and simple shows. A pleasant afternoon. Isn't that what you'd rather have?

  • does anyone know what kind of bike Brolin is riding? I have a kawa kz650 and it looks alot like this

  • In my house, on Tuesday nights, it was The Mod Squad, followed by The Movie of the Week, and ending with Marcus Welby. A great night of television in the early 70's.

  • Amen friend, it was ABC on Tuesday night and leave the channel knobs alone. Didn't bother with other networks until "Welby" was cancelled.

  • @ftsjr Yes "GREAT"!!! Will you say that!!!!

  • Have you purchased any products from the outlet you mentioned? If so, what is the quality?

    Thank you.

  • Love that theme music, especially at the end when they hit that high note!!! Wish it was a little bit longer!!!! The show was great too!!!! That's what they need nowadays, some good old fashion house doctors!!!!!!

  • the theme music is great..i would dance to this one, if the theme was longer:)

  • It actually was MUCH longer; this is the truncated opening from the daytime reruns in syndication. This beautiful theme was written by Oscar and Emmy-winning composer Leonard Rosenman (BARRY LYNDON, SYBILL, CHARLTON HESTON PRESENTS THE BIBLE).

  • R.I.P. Leonard Rosenman.

  • I had neighbors who were military doctors and they made "house calls" when I got sick I got taken care of and did not cost me anything. Just like Europe but, without payin high taxes.

  • I remember this show from the 70's. My mother was a big fan of this show. It was like the daytime soaps at night. Those days of House doctors are over! With the cost of HMO'S and insurance, doctors make more money now than ever before! If you notice doctors had driven cars that were not luxury back then, and you didn't need insurance to pay!! You would still get treatment on a payment plan! Healthcare was affordable in those days!

  • I was only 2-3 years old when I was watching this, but I distinctly remember watching this with my mom at night. This is classic and quality television. I wish this type of show would come back.

  • Those of you who want this classic on DVD....raise your hand.

  • ME! I want this on DVD!

  • I absolutely, beyond the shadow of any doubt, second, third, fourth, and et cetera that. (This is the 40th anniversary of the program and there is NO excuse for this).

Those of you who want Marcus Welby, M.D. on DVD, raise your hand.

  • Absolutely! If Shout! puts out "Marcus Welby" on DVD, my money is going right towards it.

  • Then you have to absolutely, beyond the shadow of any doubt, second, third, fourth, and et cetera, make sure there are enough fans of Marcus Welby out there to justify NBC Universal putting it on DVD. Remember, they have to make money, this is not a charity, and if they don't make any money on the DVD's, there will be no more sets.

  • @Neville6000 I especially look forward to two fine episodes starring two future teen icons--both part of large families, one of whom is an actual stepson of a future star.

    Okay, who are they?

    Good luck.

  • I don't know who these 'future stars' are that you talk so much about-and what I said is sound advice! If you choose to ignore it that's your problem, not mine.

  • @Juliaflo

i myself already got season 1 of that show last week from amazon.com next month i'll get season 2

  • I became a dr. because of this tv. show.

I was camped out every tues. night to watch it. What a great inspiration. If only it could be this simple again.

  • this brings back some great memories for me, my mom used to let me stay up late on friday nights to watch this with her and we would get some fish and chips from the local chippy in the uk to eat while watching it.....good times

  • my dad was a eye surgeon back in the 60's-70's, I worked in his office after school & I remember he charged $30 for a thorough eye exam, cataract surgical patients stayed in the hospital a week to recover properly, none of all this managed care crap & it didn't bankrupt people like it does now...dad died in 1988, he wouldn't know what to think of how things are now. Thanks dad for teaching me so much about right and wrong.

  • The worst health care in America is yet to come with socialized medicine ..Of course those that will decide for the masses will make themselves exempt from having to be a part of it..

  • the worst care is when an HMO tells you what dr. you can see and this isn't socialized medicine? It works in Canada and people don't get screwed out of their lifes savings and home to get healthy

  • That is why many Canadians come into America each year to get medical care. Some aspects work to a degree. I am in an HMO for the last couple of years and can't get tests I think are needed. I could on my prev insurance coverage but not in the HMO. I think socialized med will be something like that. Dr's won't be allowed to do all they might have done for all their patients. I have the SAME doctor just different coverage.

  • A few Canadians may go to the US for a medical test but they go back home with their test results in hand to their Canadian doctor for treatment.

  • The worst healthcare is the shitty system you have now-no amount of watching Marcus Welby and remembering him is going to get you better health care.

  • LOLOL Marcus Welby was a TV show... Although back in the 60's I think dr's DID actually make house calls. It is interesting to read online that the head person in Canada--is it a president or premier-whatever.. just came to the US for surgery. And I have a friend in Ireland who is still bleeding and suffering from a surgery he had a week ago and they let him go in that condition because they 'needed the bed'.. What the ???

  • We do not need to dump our whole system we just need to fix it. And trust me the US government has never run ANYTHING with any amount of efficiency or honesty. Let's look at Veteran's care, SS, medicare and medicaid, I know I DON'T want to trust the government to make sure I get the healthcare I need.

  • Managed care was around since the '70's itself...what you need is universal healthcare-simple as that.

  • Move to France or England or Ireland or Canada-well they are gradually moving AWAY from universal healthcare..hmm Why is it that if someone has a different opinion then you do, they are somehow evil. I don't agree with anything you've said here yet you have the right to your opinion.

  • Still drinking neocon Kool-Aid with regards to your health care system, I see? Well, keep on being deluded, then.

  • I live in Canada, and no, we aren't getting rid of it at all. You should consider getting it for the USA-THEN a doc like Welby would be around more.

  • ahhh!! The good old days of medicine.....before HMO's, crooked insurance companies, lawyers, and government bureaucracy and incompetency raped, pillaged, and ruined medicine forever. In fact, they have ruined society and America forever. Too bad we can't go back to the days of Marcus Welby and those like him.

  • Like I said before, if you want to have guys like Dr. Welby practice medicine, get the health care system that nurtures men like him and Dr. Kiley-and that system is a universal health care system! No ifs, ands, or buts.
