  • @Tschiyeah Didn't say you were one... LMAO Did you hit the "slice and close" button before you tried dragging the audio events over to GA? Its in the audio edit window to the left. After you are done making the hitpoints, hit that button in the left pane to slice them up. Then drag once you are back at the sequencer window drag and drop on the first pad and it should lay them out. CAUTION- may take a few if its a long sample... Be warned! LOL

  • @winchellproductions :D

at the end on top of the window it says "in slices"

I did click the slice button..

  • @Tschiyeah but it still doesn't work... I am doomed!

  • @Tschiyeah pls answer me ;/

  • Thank you so much bro! And btw I really like your attitude. Peace!

  • Excellent 'tute' winchellproductions. Less head scratching now. Appreciate vid upload fella !!!

  • Nice dude! gonna try it tonight!

  • Can somebody help me? I am trying to use Cubase 5 to make samples of whatever... which are not recorded to a click track, and get them to a constant BPM. Somehow it isnt working fo me!

  • cubase is a joke

  • @Alu142 Cubase is only a joke to those that cant get it. It does all I need and tons more than I can't even wrap my head around!!! I've barely even scratched the surface of what it can do too. Maybe it just ain't for you... Find what works for you and master it. Peace!

  • @winchellproductions no mate, it can do same thing every other daw can, for some its better (for eg. its better for recording then fl studio), for most its worse but what it is a joke couse you everything is so stupid. can do EXACT SAME operations in 10 seconds exacly how you want it in ableton, reason, fl, pro tools whatever, this is just SO annoying once you used a NORMAL music program... for eg sequencing drums, like seriously? hah, ok use it if you want but...

  • @Alu142 Yeah, I guess to each his own. I do mostly tracking, mixing and mastering for the most part and every other DAW I used took me forever to get one track complete in about 1/4 of the time in cubase... But it all depends on what you do and how well you know it. I admit, i use FL studio for most drum sequencing. Cubase sux in that realm... I mean beat designer is sorta like FL but the whole process is a pain to set up, when FL just has it all right there and is easy to manage.

  • @Alu142 , lol.. you're dumb... cubase is a joke? lol, give me a break.

  • @winchellproductions give me name of one good producer that uses it. i mean a good one not just a popular one. ok i know hans zimmer uses it but its different then producing popular music...

  • @Alu142 The only reason you dont hear of cubase as much as say Protools is the marketing... Protools is jammed down every big producers neck until thats what they think they need to make it in the biz. Thats the reason you see more people using protools. Its just been the go to software since they started. Does it mean its superior? HELL NO! its just got a good following. Enough of this bull shit fighting about which is better. Go make some music fucker! Cubase or protools, just make music!!!

  • @winchellproductions i mean like samples in cubase are like whatt? you cant easily connect effect to each hits, whole cubase vsti system sucks and all looks confusing. in fl i feel like im in control everything that i want and i know EXACTLY what is going on... cubase is good for recording though.. but you cant make a good tune on it, its just too not user-friendly..

  • @Alu142 Yes, you can put effects on each sample. You setup Groove agent in the vst instruments and you can route each pad to a track so you can apply any effect, eq, whatever to it. Its user friendly for me! And there are a lot of people that use it and make great music with it. the band Mashugga did their entire album on it.Go stick your head in the toilet and flush bitch, your full of SHIT! Fuck off, I got music to make! :)

  • btw hitpoints gave same issue when i clicked slice nd close, sample would be returned to old speed and chopped up brutally.. cant make new samples either as when i try to export the wav as new file to import back in it states 'not enough disk space' when i have over 300gig spare wtf! advice would be great.. cubase will be going out my window shortly

  • hi, really useful vid, but having issues.. have a sample 'split' into 8 bars, each chunk has been resized with time warp (3rd pointer controll option) to shrink the samples to play fast and snap to both the fixed and tempo track. When i drag each split loop to the pads the play back with original speed not the new sample..

  • what do u do to make more than one pad play... can't figure that out... i just started using cubase...

  • can someone help me plz... i use cubase 5 but dont kno who to put the chopes in 2 seperate channels lol

  • how do i put the chops in 2 seperate channels lol

  • Guys, can someone help me? When i click the "Play" button in Cubase, it plays my Beat Designer loop even if i have put it's pattern into the music place or not. How can i fix this? So it only plays when i have put the pattern out in the spot i have put the pattern?=O

  • super helpfull man!!! thank you..

  • this was great! i love you! mad love. mad mancrush, bro.

  • Does it works with a real Akai MPD 18???

  • @MrFerro96 Yes, if you set it up right. :)

  • @winchellproductions Thanks Bro :):)!

  • Wow I've been using cubase since 1994.... everyone can learn something from someone else... great tutorial! I never used this function this way, I stick with ReCycle but I'm going to try this!

  • I bought Cubase yesterday, and i have been using FL studio for about 5 months, what should i use for Dubstep production?=) Im not really sure if i should keep on using FL or start learning Cubase, i want to become a professional. ;)

  • @zipproductionz best advice I can give is to play with cubase a little but keep going with FL studio. at some point you will decide which is better for you. And always follow your gut. If you mess with cubase for a while and feel it slows you down because your uswed to FL.

  • @zipproductionz Dont let FL studio fool you, its just as capable of most anything cubase can do. :) Use what feels confortable! But never give up on learning another DAW. The more you know the better! It will help you in the future to know many programs! :)

  • @winchellproductions Oooh nice!:D But do you know about any good Dubstep producers that use Cubase exept for Flux Pavilion?=D

  • @zipproductionz IDK... You could truely get lost looking at all your option, OR you could spend that time makin beats my friend! Like I said, great tool to have under the belt but dont spend all your time wondering what you need to be a great dubstep producer, learn to master what you have now and move up as you feel its time to learn another. :) Good luck and keep at it!

  • Now, that's some serious tutorial Mr. winchellproductions!

    * * * * *

  • Do you know how i can make the groove agent one to have the same key assignments as my MPD?

  • @EspenHMusic I'd check around if I were you. There has got to be a way, google it up and see what you can find. For most controllers, people have found ways.

  • @winchellproductions i juste found it out :)

  • @EspenHMusic Nice!

  • Thanks Bro :)

    Very Helpful :)

  • Thanks !

  • what about speeding up the sample? how do u do that?

  • Thanks so much this is amazing!

  • thanks good instructions peace

  • Hi Winchell, great tutorials.

Do you know how to set a bass, for example, on Groove Agent so it plays chromatically up the pads without changing the pitch on each pad?

  • @markgadge Cant be done without manually doing that... I looked everywhere but nothing explaining how to do just that. Sux...

  • when i play the last hit point it continues beyond where i cut it and plays the whole song, what am i doing wrong?

  • @MOSDUBstep You imported the entire song... Trim it first and have it end where you want the sample to end. That last slice has no other slices and so the sample plays out. Trim it BEFORE you bring it into Cubase. Use audacity or whatever you use for sample editing.

  • soundcloud(dot)com/digit4l/and-who-are-you-free-320-kbs

  • how can u finnally record this ? when i record it works only with groveagent but i want it as an track ... i hope u understand what i mean ... pressing all the buttons with the slices ... i want to get that recorded.

  • How do I get to Groove Agent One? it does not appear to be an option when I create the instrument track.

  • @PeteyNicee Do you have cubase 5? Which version? It might not be included if its the LE version but i'm not 100% sure...

  • @winchellproductions Yes I have the LE version

  • @PeteyNicee I thinks thats why you dont have it then...

  • to everyone with the zoom resolution problem, press edit hitpoints on the left first

  • @roniqueh96 Thanks for letting me and everyone else know what was causing that. :) You rock! I was not sure what they were missing. LOL

  • how do u change the BPM of the sample?

  • @ErcleeIsBoss Time stretch it with hit points. There is a way to do it but I forgot to be honest... LOL

  • any cubase 6 videos coming soon?

  • Thank! You have my suscribe.

  • Your sound is clipping :X

  • Comment removed

  • @FallenPurpose If your mainly into just beats by sampling. You may want to try fl studio! its cheap and can do a bunch! There is something called slicex that is pretty sweet. Search for it on youtube. Or you could get "Machine" by native instruments. Its the same price (500) as cubase and has the controller that comes with it. Do some more research, there are a ton of options...

  • hey man thanks what song is that u use?

  • @Vidmakr6302 Its an Al Green song, cant remember the name of it. Its a newer one.

  • I just started using cubase so this might not be the best question, at the moment I don't have a midi keyboard and am using the virtual keyboard instead. Is there a way to play more than one sound at once, so that they overlap without the sound cutting off or anything?

  • Hey, I've done everything, I created my beat, but when I press play, the beat constantly plays even though I haven't created a midi part with the pen tool. How do I stop this and make the beat ONLY play when it passes through a midi part?

    Thanks

  • @Orthoratee mute the original beat.

  • @Orthoratee mute the track the original beat is on. Or just delete it off the sequencer.

  • very useful thanlkou

  • you can hardly edit your chops with groove agent

same as drums trough groove agent it does so little

cubase is far behind other software

basic swing 0-100% the beatdesigner is a joke ,because yo uhave to copy your kick multiple times or snares then shift them arround(very hard process)

my cubase 6 was a waste of money :) hope you dont take it as hate towards you just saying my toughts about cubase

  • @zonemod Oh, you right for sure! Its not a replacement for the MPC by any means... But for what I do (record people and mastering tracks for money) its perfect! :) And I've figured out how to do this with it also so it was like a bonus for me. I got a small laptop and can make beats without even needing a controller. I great sketchpad for when I'm on the go. Keep up the music! Peace

  • Really helpful, was looking for exactly this :)

Also....You sound like christian slater xD

  • can you use cubase to sample and make beats using a MIDI like an MPD?

  • @Egyptut yes... this video explains how to do that

  • @winchellproductions does this all work with cubase LE 4

  • @Egyptut No... cubase 4 doesnt include groove agent...

  • I understand what a crash is.. I was just wondering what might be causing it. LOL.

  • @MrReidLynn I think its the fact that it tries to load a large sample into groove agent and it takes so long to load cubase rejects it and freezes... A sample is usually only a couple seconds and a complete song is huge! LOL

  • Comment removed

  • @winchellproductions thanks. even though the continuous use of "LOL" makes it seem like your laughing at me.

  • this a great video... but every time i try this my Cubase turns white & says "(not responding)"

    WHY!?

im so mad i cant see straight..

  • @MrReidLynn Sounds like Cubase is brain farting... Try a SMALL sample by opening the song your sampling in audacity and trim it down to just a small part. Then import it into Cubase and try this. When you load the samples into Groove agent it will freeze as it layers them across the pads. So use a SMALL sample and it should go quick. :)

  • @winchellproductions Yeppers.. It worked. Thank you!!! I've also had trouble with saving projects on Cubase. When I save just one time, I get like 8 files. One containing the whole thing and then quite a few others that say BAK. Is that normal? they take up a ton of room & it doesn't seem right.

  • @MrReidLynn you can delete all those .BAK files. they are just backups from when you crashed it. LOL Once you delete them you should be good. your welcome! Peace

  • @winchellproductions 'crashed it'? am i doing something wrong?

  • @MrReidLynn you said "this a great video... but every time i try this my Cubase turns white & says "(not responding)" What happens after the screen goes white? Is cubase still open or does it close? If it goes white and dissapears, its considered a crash. LOL

  • @MrReidLynn Those are just the backup copies in case you had some important stuff you wanted to save but didnt get to before it shutdown.

  • so if i have to do all 16 pads do i have to do 16 hit-points??

  • @MrDavideblur Yes

  • @winchellproductions cool thank you ;)

  • @winchellproductions and you know the pads are like keyboards keys C1, C#1 and etc... can i change it to like C4??

  • how do i create my own hitpoints in Cubase 6?

  • @ginty019 good question... I just installed 6 the other day and havent got to try this yet. Will give it a go and see what I come up with.

  • @winchellproductions i figured out how to auto detect the hitpoints and edit them from there, but it still would be much easier to draw them in myself. i was still able to get this technique to work and wow this is amazing!

  • @winchellproductions Hitting CTRL or ALT while drawing in the points doesnt work? Not sure if I said it clear enough in the vid. I kinda mumbled it... LOL Try holding the CTRL or ALT key and clicking where you want like i did. Let me know if that works. Peace!

  • simple, effective and straight to the point...lovely stuff thank you :D

  • Its making me zoom in till its too small to see what im chopping!

  • awesome

  • Excellent tut

  • Were u playing it with your keyboard? Why must you use 'group 3'? Is that a special thing with groove agent?....Another thing, I have seen many people connect the groove agent to beat designer which is cool but how do you play each individual drum in a pitched sequence? -sorta like in fruity loops. You know how in southern beats we play the drums in a melodic way and we have the 808's playing between c, or F, B# etc? Is there a way to have a drum sound play at different pitches?

  • @BlackVivaldi You would need a sampler VST to layer them across pitch like in FL... Just do a search for "free sampler VST" and get one and learn it. It'll save lotsa time. :) Group 3 is the group of notes you want to cut when you hit another pad. If you dont do that they will play over the last one played. Try it with and with out. You'll see what I mean.

  • @winchellproductions Thanks so much for the reply. I searched for free sampler vsts but they all seem like crap. I shall save up and buy kontakt soon. Oh boy, I wish that pitch thingy was possible though :)

  • i move my sample on groove agenyt just like tutorial says but nothing shows up, chopped up ilke beat lik intsructed but to no awhail

  • hey dude but how you get rid of the last hit point which contains the rest of the song? or let asks it this way when you cut, you can still see the rest of the song on black and white right? so, how you get rid of that part permanently ?

  • @kharlos84 you would need to trim it with another program like audacity... or there maybe a way to trim it in cubase, just havent figured it out yet. lol

  • perfect thankyou so much!

  • your getting nice view and graphics .... which graphic card do u have ?

  • Hey there thanks for this was great! Just really starting out with cubase just learning new things all the time. I completed a track for the first time a short while ago and I'm happy! Thanks again!

  • Yo! winchellPro

    I have A qeustion!

I chopped the sample and loaded into groove agent and offcourse i used my ALT to make sure i can drop the HITpoints. :):)

But now i want to use the sample in a track and when i go on the groove agent track and open a score..and use my pencil to make the lengt of the sample

and to be specific, the part that i draw is 3 seconds but the sample is like 5

why do i hear the whole 5 seconds sample??

I hope you understand me cause my englisch aint that Good :)

  • @winchellproductions Another question for ya' haha. I'm in the sample editor and i'm adjusting the sensitivity of a certain sample, creating hitpoints, which essentially is determining my chops. How would I go about deleting unwanted hitpoints? lol

  • @BrodyzVidz right click it maybe?

  • Oeps!

I think i just found the answer to that Lol

    Thanks anyway :)

  • @DitisDope was probably hittle and holding the CTRL or ALT button right? LOL

  • @winchellproductions

by me its the ALT :)

But one qeustion though, why doesnt happen by You???

  • @DitisDope Because I WAS actually holding the ALT key, I just didn't speak up enough when I was explaining it. In fact I think I might not have even said to do it. I'm so used to doing it I forget to explain it. LOL

  • @winchellproductions

hahaha, yeah thats a SMART move :) Lol

I hear ya. Now i know its not MY cubase

  • i followed everything you showed but somehow cubase tells me that i need to have ´to change my resolution to 1''

    i cant put those hitpoints??

  • could you use the keyboard to hit the different cuts?

  • @ihceyno Yes you can.

  • @winchellproductions Oh thanks, that'll save me a lot of money

  • ya i tried that but it keeps trippin about the zoom resolution and will not let me access the pencil..don't know why. i followed each step and when i wanna insert more hitpoints, it won't let me access..

  • thanks man...but what about my resolution issue??????

  • @OzmosisTV hold CTRL or ALT and click on the spots you want to slice

  • and also, whenever im trying to pull up the pencil tool, it wont let me. it keeps saying "Please zoom to a resolution that is lower than 1". its kinda frustrating..

  • Hey Excellent video man!!!!! but how can i connect my midi keyboard to cubase??? i have a Axion49 and have no idea how to connect it.

  • @OzmosisTV check out my other videos, I have one showing you how. :-)

  • @winchellproductions thanks a lot man!!! but what about the resolution issue...i get all the way to the keypoints and cubase wont allow me to use the draw pencil because it keeps sayin "Please zoom to a resolution that is lower than 1"....what do i do wiz???

  • 1 word........Thanks!!!

  • how do you remove vocals from a track?

  • Comment removed

  • can you sample from the instruments preloaded in cubase..like if i record a chord and loop it, can i sample it from the pool or do i have to convert it to mp3/wav than sample???

  • where do I get samples?

  • @voidstuff from songs.

  • @voidstuff or movies, TV, outside with a portable voice recorder. Anything you can imagine!!!!

  • Hey man..is there anyway to take out parts of the sample? For example if I just wanted the vocals of that song you used, without any instruments? Thanks.

  • @Donthatetheherb93 Good luck... Cant be done and sound good at the same time, no way around it. Find an acapella somewhere maybe?

  • @winchellproductions Ah ok cheers for the reply, sorry to keep bugging you but do you have any idea how to alter single events? For example if I wanted to distort/lower the volume on my drums for just one event? Cheers.

  • @Donthatetheherb93 Automation, you know anything about it? Its kinda hard to setup if you haven't done it before... Try looking in the help menu for it. Or check here on youtube for a video. :-)

  • thanks mate!!!!!!

  • @winchellproductions - You are a great person. Thanks for being born. My problems are now solved! xP The advice is much appreciated! ;)

  • @Jaikay1 Thanks man, subscribe to the channel if you haven't already! :-)

  • @winchellproductions Thanks man! I managed to figure the 'fine tune' part out myself in groove agent before I read your reply. Is there any particular sampler vst's that you would recommend for putting the one note across a whole scale?

I had a feeling it wasnt possible at all, as im relatively new to sampling and cubase in general, but im picking things up fairly fast I think :) So any extra advice is MUCH appreciate ;) Thanks bud!

  • @Jaikay1 Do a google search for "Highlife vst" Its FREE!!! :-) And is simple to learn. Best of luck and keep it up!!!

    Winchell

  • I have a quick question, If I have a bass NOTE (just the one note) sound, like a random 808 bass sound, can I actually somehow change the note over and over then make a whole bass vst that way??

  • @Jaikay1 put that in a sampler that layers the that one note across a whole scale. Not sure if there is an easy way to do it. I know once you load up a sample in groove agent you can "fine tune" the pitch. But I dont think you want to go in and do them all manually... A sampler vst will usually do it all for you.

  • Nice tutorial man, but I'm having a problem. Everytime I attempt to add hitpoints, it repeatedly says "Please zoom in to a resolution lower than 1" ?

  • @Donthatetheherb93 Try hitting and holding the ALT key instead of the CTRL key...

  • WOW great tutorial man, I had no idea it was that easy. I've been using battery but this looks sooo much easier.

Keep making vids amazing job, easily one of the best tutorials

  • @teamfailtrucks Thanks man!!! :)

  • thx finally i know !!

  • another nice tutorial, many thanks... so many shit "tutorials" around on youtube. These are great though, respect

  • @sirchufferey Thanks man!

  • How do you make sure the loops are in the same BPM as the song? Lets say I have a sample, but I dont know its BPM. Or lets say I have a sample, but want to timestretch or even pitch up the BPM so that its in line with Cubase's BPM. HOw do I do think with Groove Agent One?

  • @winchellproductions

Fairly simple question, but i just cant figure it out....

Lets say i assign a random kick from a drumkit, using mediabay or loop browser, into a pad on Groove Agent and It just doesnt interest me anymore, how would I delete it from the pad?? I thought maybe If i replace the kick within another .wave file sound it'll automatically delete it. But i forgot that would just Layer It......help me out bro! lol

  • @BrodyzVidz click on the pad, select the "voice" tab under "Pad edit" and the drag the "Layer one" or "Layer two" up to the little trash can above and to the right. That will do it! :-)

  • nice vid, man.

  • how is this compareable to an actual MPC?

i cant figuire out how to loop in cubase without duplicating??

    help?

  • @hallal55 there is a ruler at the top of the tracks you can click on it and draw in a section to loop

  • oh okay, ruller is only way right?

    thanks

  • Hi, nice tutorial, but can u explain how to record what we play on the mpc ? Actually i have the song on the mpc, i can play with, but i can't record it on an audio-track.

    Thanks.

  • @JH2promo Check out my other vids, I have one on setting up a stereo input in cubase. :-)
