Yes, that is a hitch wagon and yes, that was bad driving form. I know a guy that can drive a hitch just like that one, and he would NEVER slap the horses with the lines like that. he would use his lines, verbal cues and touch them with a whip to let them know to speed up.
@pask54 : well mr./miss driving know it all, lets see you tear around the arena with 12,000lbs of percheron and not wiggle your lines abit. Better yet- let's see you roman ride them. Bet ya can't...this guy can!
The prefeit I dont know how they spell it, but they came to tulsas state fair rodeo and They come to us every year at the rodeo we have One rodeo they didnt use their cart and the driver got on the last 2 percherons and drove them like that then with cart. stood on the last twos back. it was cool. he fell but he got back on and nothing hurt just a mistake understanding. It was awsome seeing him do that then using the cart since it was raining I think at the time and didnt want to use cart.
When they came out of that little alley, the horses had to come straight out and swing wide, just as a semi does now. That meant the wheelers (those closest the wheel) had to mark time while the swing team came round at a trot and the leaders galloped around. If they didn't do that, they'd catch the front wheels of the wagon on something.
That is a hitch wagon. They were typically used for heavy deliveries of items such as beer kegs. Those horses are doing a very showy display of the skills needed to drive a wagon such as that on deliveries. Think of it as a horse-drawn semi. They had to do all the things, in traffic, that a semi must do, such as driving down crowded back alleys to access a loading dock, and then backing the wagon up to that dock to unload.
ok folks seriously...you must not be horse people. its not a CART is a freakin WAGON.....a cart is wat you put a single horse on....seriously if you don't know what your talking about then don't talk about it...
these preifert or idk how u spell it but they r always in my town when we do our fair and rodeo, here they do it more different, guy will stand up on the last 2 and drive them without the cart.
i saw a display of 6 gun carts being pulled by 12 each, doing drill riding at the gallop, with crossovers in the middle and stuff, if one went a tiny bit slow they would have all crashed. also, there were 8 gaurdsmen in the arena, space out either side, the carts passed about 1 inch in front of them each time round and from where i was i could see the gaurds leaning back and clenching their buttocks as the horses galloped past, awesome show
OMG, these horses were IN MY TOWN, just randomly for people to see, they're HUGE and I got to pet them all! haha, they weren't hitched up or anything, just in some stalls, but it was great!
Its the Priefert Texas Thunder!!!!!!! They are Crazy! i saw them at Mule Days in Bishop, Ca!! They are so fast the stands shake when they pass by and the hooves sound like thunder...hence the name. They are a must see if they are in your town!!!!!! AMAZING!!!
Thats the fastest I have ever seen any one gallop a team of 6,except in the movies.Outstanding showmanship and rein handling. What a great team of horses.
Priefert is a great team...I go around and help take care of them at the events like this. Jason is great. The louder the crowd is the faster Jason makes the horses go...so that crowd must've been pretty loud!

is it safe for them to run that fast when theyre hooked up?
im asking cos i honestly dont know lol
i ride english and i heard someone say its not good for them to go fast then a trot
but i didnt know if it was BS or not.
they looked like they were having fun though
<3 drafts
ThePunkIrish27 2 years ago
it's "safe" but not "advisable." usually driving is walk/trot/strong trot only.
schwartzedesign 2 years ago
@ThePunkIrish27 we contest our clydesdales... were they saying it's bad for drafts to go faster than a trot in general? or attached to a cart
Barrelracing318 1 year ago
@Barrelracing318 to go faster attached to a cart. i thought that was bull, but i wasnt quite sure as im really not familiar with draft horses
