Here is what Mr Emerson says about the double detent, I copied this from a knife forum:
The double detent was developed so that we could adjust the detent without
adjusting or affecting the spring tension on the lock. Keeping them separate
allowed me to adjust them independently since they perform separate functions.

Thanks, I hope to get a emerson cqc-8 or horseman in the new stone wash finish that they have, I really like those.
The commander is also another classic that I must have!

The M Wave is definite a pretty unique Emerson... and a great catch...
Agree with you on the ergonomics... Emerson's do sport some of the best ergos among knives that I have encountered.
The double lanyard is pretty interesting... haven't seen that before... interesting...
