  • I always tell people that the most important thing is to just start planting. Are they compost bins in the back ground, or raised garden beds?

My big garden breakthrough was putting everything under dripperlines and setting up an automatic watering system.

  • I got free manure from posting on Craigslist in the gardening section that I wanted it. Horse owners here just want to get rid of it for shoveling it yourself.

  • LOL @ the "rank" cat, hahaha...im having terrible luck w/garden due to the grasshoppers and the heat...i have been watering every evening and tried using that spray u make, christen but it seems to discolor my plants, i used the dried chilis as thats all the store had, and i used real garlic, and a bit of soap and let it sit a wk..those grasshoppers are just militant! i hate 'em!

  • keen video, lol

  • manure is free if you check craigslist or a local farmer.

  • I understand your disappointment. I just put some things in a container, thought I had done everything right and the next day I was heartbroken, everything was wilted to the point that I just know they won't make it! But I have seen some encouraging comments here.

Thank you for sharing your experience. I hope yours are better by now:)

  • Christian, I water seedlings with a sugar solution to reduce transplant shock. It always works. 2-3 tablespoons in a standard bucket or watering can is how much I use.

  • Hi, may I ask, do you put the sugar solution on flower as well as vegetable transplants? And how many times?

    Thanks:)

  • Learn you "NPK" soil chemistry. That's Nitrogen, Phosphorus, Potasium. Google it.

  • Thank you:)

  • You are meant to use a Seaweed water-soluble solution, or a fish emulsion.

  • Christian, we all get the itch but you can minimize transplant shock by planting your sets in evening after sunset. By planting in daytime & watering most water will end on plant & increase evaporation from leaves & drawing water from roots. The late evening is always best.

  • Rocket (Aus) = Arugula (USA)

    Both pretty weird names hey!

  • Use a rain barrel (ovr there) for watern?

  • I've had good luck with using the "Jiffy" (Peat) pots for starting seedlings. You can plant the whole pot, which disentigrates and the plants don't suffer any transplant shock at all if you harden them off good. You have to make sure none of the peat sticks out of the ground though, because it wicks out the moisture.

  • The secret to minimize the drooping of transplants, any transplants is plenty of H2O.

BTW, that is why I love cats... especially if they are sauteed correctly. ;-)

  • What is rocket?

  • lettuce type

  • arugula

  • I had the same problem with my seedlings. When I plant them, they sorta go through a mild shock and then they get their footings and really take off. You're gonna have all the manure you can handle once you get your chickens and then your garden is gonna go wild. :)

  • Hey there Christian,

I know just how you feel, its hard to turn the soil and not put something in it straight away. Im very limited in the space I have (all in containers) but I just harvested a row of radishes from my claw foot tub behind the garage and Im going to put in a row of beet seeds! Best of luck to you and Queenie, your doing great!

    Cheers!

  • Great videos!

  • I really enjoy your videos. You just seem like a really nice fella and your videos are always informative and you do a neat job with them. So just wanted you to know that you were appreciated today!

  • looking very good...careful with the manure...it can burn plants it is is not completly composted and brown...

  • Go rocket go!!!keep up the good work as always, I still don't know what rocket is?

  • I have seen arugla listed as "rocket" a couple of times. The growing and bolting habit is straight up like a rocket.

  • Gee it's hard to hold off, isn't it..even when the garden isn't quite ready. lol My bok choy has taken off. Still a surprise that anything is growing.

Queenie is looking like a real country girl now....maybe you can train her to chase the birds.

  • Where abouts in Australia are you? I planted rocket in my garden last year and now its popping up every where lol
