Loghain appears if he didn't die due to Alistair or the Archdemon, Anora appears if she rules alone OR if you marry her, Leliana and Zevran sends you letters if you were in a romance with them, Oghren is one of your companions, and... that's just about it.
No Dog, no Shale, no Sten and no Morrigan. Although a possible Epilogue (SPOILER ALERT) will mention how you kept trying to track Morrigan down if you were in a romance with her and went through the dark ritual.
@Nickthelich No one else shows up. Just Wynne, Alister, and Oghren. If you were in a relationship with Leliana in the original, she only sends you a letter. I think Zevren too, i never made a character be with him.
@ShadowVampireFTW you forgot loghain, If you keep him a live then he shows up to say hi before he is off, he was a big surprise for me. I didn't think they would stick him in awakening. he will show up in you keep after you have completed 2 of the 3 major plot areas.

Does anyone know if Leliana, Zevran or some of the other characters appear? It would suck if all I get to see is Wynne and Allister
