If you wanted to change direction you'd need more than just 'leaning' the vehicle. If you leaned, you'd be capable of 'strafing' left and right, but not changing direction.
To change direction you'd need one fan to tilt one way, and the other to tilt the opposite. Also,you'd need the fans to tilt forward in order to get forward propulsion. This vehicle has no such pivotal mechanism on its fans. It can do nothing but go 'up'.

@metalhanded Sorry to break it to you, but it's real. Flying/hovering personal vehicles have been around since the 60s. Biggest drawback is that if the vehicle doesn't have a highly limited altitude then it falls under FAA regulation unless tethered.
Considering how skilled people are with cars, I wouldn't want these same people flying over my house.

Reminds me of the crafts built by Piasecki basck in the late 50's early 60's for the U.S. Army, called AirGeep. Mostly like the the VZ8-P. Granted it was a bit bigger, but had many of the features and promises that this one has. Biggest problem was it could not reach its max. alt. because the small props and engines just could not get the power needed. While this is smaller and hopefully better powered, I would hope there would be a chute included. That being said I'm fan of the Hiller platform

@klyde338Lapua nope is said to be very stable at low flight but the inventor quotes "we just dont know what would happen at high altitude YET , and as this is the only prototype in its testing phase its destruction would result in the entire project being discontinued".
admitidly it would be nice to see actual teathered flight footage but a gentleman from NASA that has seen the test flight stated " its flight characteristics and balance/stability is comparable to an ultralight rotor copter "

The video says it can travel 173 miles per hour.
If you wanted to change direction you'd need more than just 'leaning' the vehicle. If you leaned, you'd be capable of 'strafing' left and right, but not changing direction.
To change direction you'd need one fan to tilt one way, and the other to tilt the opposite. Also,you'd need the fans to tilt forward in order to get forward propulsion. This vehicle has no such pivotal mechanism on its fans. It can do nothing but go 'up'.

Granted. If you shut off the rear fan and leaned left, you could cause some rotation about the horizontal plane, assuming that the horizontal force was not inline with the centroid.
But you couldn't do this without inducing rotation in the other planes. So the machine would flip.
It's cute that you can spell physics but you clearly have no idea how it actually works.

ummm.....a Bullshit! No it will not! It wont do any of the things this video says it will. I doubt it can get more than a couple feet off the ground before it flips over and wrecks. It would HAVE TO have a gyroscope, and a heavy one at that, in order to stay upright, and that would change all the performance specs. And you better hope nothing goes into the fan because that's all she wrote if so. Especially with wooden blades. With a heavy, high-tech gyroscope, maybe someday, but not this or now.

@metalhanded Sorry to break it to you, but it's real. Flying/hovering personal vehicles have been around since the 60s. Biggest drawback is that if the vehicle doesn't have a highly limited altitude then it falls under FAA regulation unless tethered.
Considering how skilled people are with cars, I wouldn't want these same people flying over my house.

@Menuki i hear ya about people driving. i almost get hit by some moron every time i leave the house. and i know these kinds of things have been around a while, just saying that the capabilities claimed here is nonsense, especially seeing how it can only be used while tethered one foot from the ground. I'm not saying the tech isn't there either, it's a million times beyond it, just saying this design has to have a killer gyro & a lot more capabilities than it looks like it has. good day.

Reminds me of the crafts built by Piasecki basck in the late 50's early 60's for the U.S. Army, called AirGeep. Mostly like the the VZ8-P. Granted it was a bit bigger, but had many of the features and promises that this one has. Biggest problem was it could not reach its max. alt. because the small props and engines just could not get the power needed. While this is smaller and hopefully better powered, I would hope there would be a chute included. That being said I'm fan of the Hiller platform
