I agree! Bad capacitors in a power supply often cause irregular shutdown. The caps usually swell up like a ballon on the DC output side. The problem only gets worse as the powersupply ages.........

DVD player may not be able to handle newer DVD's. It the DVD drive os older than 2 years might be it. Also Heat...can be an issue with a mongo video card. Fer chissakes don't stick you fingers in running machinery...damn south dakotans...get ground up in farm machinery every day....lol

It's not like I stuck my hand in a running wood chipper it was just a CPU fan and it got the worst end of it. I just needed to follow my first idea and left everything alone until I had enough sleep and it all would have been avoided. It was just a moment of carelessness due to lack of sleep.

this is a fairly easy way to give yerself an idea if it is software or hardware....software should give u a blue screan of death then reboot,hardware it will just go black and reboot...but not allways, but mostly allways. HD errors will give u a Blue screan...scan yer HDs fer errors.just rollin out ideas..its 6 am and nothing to do :( so might as well help you ;)

all as far as power supply goes...it say 475 watts and u have 500 watts...thats not fine...u need to take into acount that yer CPU,soundcard,fans,etc will also need power,if u do upgrade get like 900-1000 watts , dual rails....will give u room to work with down the road...hope that helps serena

...you should get a nice computer case to go with that Video card.....CoolMaster Stacker 830 (all aluminum case) and an Sli motherboard and another 9800 BFG...then yall have some real speed..dont ferget to overclock!! now be a good time to get a Phenom II...little to much ? :) o jezzz and the computer geek in me comes out....booo ..heee

actually my case is all aluminum at the moment and I thought about getting a new case but then thought why spend more money on something I don't really need right now. I don't want to mess up my black and silver color scheme either or spend all that time putting everything in the new case.

How big is your desktop power supply? Nvidia 9800 cards take a lot of power and your power supply may be unable to drive it if your computer is a few years old and will shut down. You will need at least 750 Watts.

Well it doesn't actually shut down it just restarts which is the problem I was trying to fix in the first place. My power supply was built for video cards like I have and came with an actual PCI cord to run this type of card. Like I said I'm sure it is not a hardware problem is it a software problem. Something is causing a conflict.

and actually the box said the minumum power requirement was 475 watts and my power supply is 500 watts so I'm fine there.

Hi Serena, I feel for you concerning your computer problems. There are some free programs that might be of help, the first, PC Fixer. You download it, and it scans your computer for drives and services that are not set right. It fixed a cd problem I was having. Use with caution, you choose which things to fix, it never suggested anything too dangerous. And the other is a virus finder, called malwarebytes. One of the best I have ever found, took things off no other program could find.

I wanted to add that I have noticed you becoming more and more feminine. You might wonder why a xian would watch your videos or think it is okay. But I had gender issues when I was younger. Gender rejection more than sexual attraction.

I wanted you to know that I care about people, and I like your personality. I like that you have seen something special in being female, and have embraced it. So many women don't see that about themselves.

hey girl you sound like you know computers . But did you check your power supply . There is a good possibility that is your issue . Over time power supply's will burn out . and dust does not help .

It better not be the power supply. That last time I had problems it was just that the fan had burned out on the power supply and over heated everything. I pretty much had to rebuild it from scratch so I got a really good power supply last time I got one.

Well hun i hope not too. But from my experience if your system shuts off with no reason it could be the power supply . You can check it by disconnecting a hard drive or 2 and see if it stays powered on with no issues . I have also seen power supply's die after a year ( I used to be the nite shift tech support making ATM's ) let me know if ya need any more suggestions .
