  • It's funny how when you break it down and find, for example, that Mass Effect is a game that operates by promising you a brief simulated relationship, revealing nuggets of story information, and giving you better gear, AKA minor rewards for invested time, you start to look at all these games that some people might call art and realize that there's nothing really artistic about them from a game design perspective. Well, at least it had some nice vistas and an okay soundtrack.

  • Just from what he's saying here it's fascinating to contemplate the whole "wish fulfilment" element of gaming. Tim Schafer is a firm believer, but Jon's comments about GTA and authenticity, he seems more interested in "What would actually happen..." without you in real life facing the real consequences, which is actually more engaging. I don't know... still a fascinating chap.

  • Before playing Braid and listening to a couple of JB's speeches I had serious doubts about whether or not game could really become a form of art, but now, thanks to him, my opinion has changed a lot.

JB really inspires me, and actually makes me better understand what art in general is all about.

  • this guy really gets it. thats incredibly rare. He understands the significance of games, what they mean to the future. there are so few developers with a vision these days. thank god we have a few out there spreading their message of sound reason and artistic integrity in gaming
